  • Alex L Dykes takes a spin in the restyled Chrysler 200 Convertible. We got our hands on the 200S model which features different wheels and a blacked out grille. Chrysler tells us a late change to the 2012 model year fits the 6-speed automatic to the four cylinder engine.

As a 2012 Chrysler 200 owner, I think the 200 is a great deal more for the money than the competition. It has luxury quality (the super quiet cabin, well tuned suspension, and a modern yet not over-zealous style) for a low price.

I have no idea why Chrysler stopped making the 200, it was clearly better than the Sebring, I feel the 200 is underrated, like if you agree

Personally, I find nothing wrong with the Sebring Convertible. I owned a Saab 9-3 Convertible (very nice) for 5 years before selling it and buying a 2001 Sebring LXi Convertible. The Chrysler has more room, is quieter, is equipped with a much better stereo system (Infinity), has nearly the same power, handles almost as well, has none of the chassis flex or cowl shake that the 9-3 had in spades and even gets better fuel mileage. It also has been extremely reliable. Granted, I may be very fortunate, but having owned convertibles for over 30 years (some fairly expensive European makes) the Sebring has been one of the finest I've owned and I'm not looking to get rid of it any time soon either. I know the Sebring isn't for everyone, but it is the perfect convertible for me and my growing family. Honestly, I've been very pleasantly surprised by my Sebring. One other thing, I know styling is completely subjective, but I believe the 2nd generation Sebring Convertible is an absolutely gorgeous vehicle with timeless styling (some of which was 'borrowed' from the Jaguar XK8 Convertible). ;)
As a side note - I do sort of agree that one shouldn't compare the Sebring with a Mustang, as they are two vastly different convertibles aimed at completely different market segments. I don't believe one is superior to the other as one is more of a "family car" geared more towards comfort and the other is more of a "sporty car" geared more to performance. Also, in some areas of the country a front wheel drive vehicle is just more practical than a rear wheel drive, while in other areas it really doesn't matter. Living in New England, all six of my convertibles were (and are) front wheel drive vehicles. In any case I put my Sebring among the top three convertibles I've owned along with a wonderful VW Cabriolet and the Saab 9-3.

Arg, I can't stand when people try to compare the Sebring/200 convertible to a Mustang. They do NOT compete.
Mustang = Compact, RWD, no hardtop option, and if you put people in the backseat (because it's a compact) you're cruel.
Sebring/200 = FWD, midsize bread & butter platform, debatabely usable rear seat (sans abuse lawsuit), with an optional hardtop.
The Chrysler needs to be compared as a potentially cheaper Volvo C70.

The 2012 Chrysler 200 Convertible is no sports car, but that's not why people are buying this car. This is most certainly a cruising machine. And if you keep it on a straight road and tune in The Coffee Shop or the Chill channel on the satellite radio...you certainly enjoy the ride & with Chrysler's 283 horsepower V-6 Pentastar under the hood....you end up with a car that's not only stylish but also fast....& the 200 is faster than what most people think

This car is much more appealing than the 2011-2014 Mustang V6. I really want to have the chance to drive one in this exact trim. Something about the 200 feels special, and I prefer the styling of it over the Mustang. The big back seats are a huge plus. It's so rare to find roomy back seats in a convertible.

If you were a party of 2, you could just put the other suitcase in the backseat... Duh. Not really rocket science.

this is one of the only cars on the market which i would say NOONE should buy. i drove a sebring as a rental a few years ago and it was by far the worst POS ive ever driven.

...lets be honest, this car is simply awful. Anyone that knows about cars will avoid this piece of shit like the plague. This car is perfect for tourists who will fly in to Miami or LA, they can drive around and get a decent tan. Otherwise avoid this car.

why are you telling people that if they want fun to go to the ford dealer and get a mustang? There are more fun cars than just that. Also why do you keep bringing up the Mustang?
