  • On Tuesday 15th August 2017, we finally made it to Corrour as part of the All The Stations.
I was there for one night, and used the drone ... and I made this. It was the one place that I had been looking forward to going to the most on the whole trip, and I loved the place. Here's why.
Choose trains. Choose railways. Choose Corrour.
So choose to do whatever makes you happy, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. And if you unashamedly like being a geeky railway train nerd, feel free to safely say so in the comments below.
The All The Stations website is here : allthestations...
T-Shirts and Merch is available here : allthestations...
Music: 'Silk' by Wolf Alice (From the Trainspotting : T2 soundtrack)

Two years since this video was shot and it continues to inspire me completely. This truly is one of the best videos ever made. It really does deserve better recognition. It inspired me to come up with the Choose Corrour t-shirt which has sold over 50 to people as far afield as Australia, Canada and the USA. It inspired me to listen to the music of Wolf Alice. I have now seen them live where they performed the song from this video and it just meant so much when I heard it. I listen to this track every morning on my walk to work as it makes me happy because it reminds me of this video.

Every time I wear my Choose Corrour shirt I get to explain it & make another nerd feel better. Wolf Alice is FORKING amazing, and I am so glad I got introduced to them. When I got to have dinner with G & V and John my boyfriend (Tram Tram Tram), I wore my Choose Corrour shirt.
      Carpe diem.
To thine own self be true.

Wow! Sometimes achieving a dream can be a minor disappointment, but certainly not here. Your words and philosophy and even honest self-discovery are so uplifting, Geoff. Corrour is a magical place. This has to be the highlight of the trip, and like all the others viewing it, months or years later, it makes us all grateful to be alive, and to experience the wonders of Creation. To the trains!

Amazing video Geoff, I will follow my dreams. At school I have been called many things for liking trains and buses. If I like trains and buses that is what I like, there is not a set thing to like these days. I can like what I want and not to be told by other people that I am wears for liking it

I think I know exactly what you were saying here. As a 15 year old in 1980, my father travelled to Inveraray to do some work and thankfully, he took me with him. As a train enthusiast, he trusted me enough to travel on my own on the West Highland line one day. So dropping me off on my own at Arrochar, off I went to Mallaig. This particular station absolutely fascinated me. It seemed so remote. I can remember a lady waiting at the station who saw her two children off on the train. I think she lived in the cottage at the station. I went back in 2009 and stayed in the guest house. It wasn't there in 1980! This place is incredible. Like a wilderness. I think it's much busier than it was back in 1980. Plenty of walkers get off and use the cafe. Just try going for a walk as the sun sets. All you can see are the lights of the station from afar. Just don't let it get too dark like we did. It was kinda scary trying to find our way back as the light faded.

Don't know how I missed this one, only just watched it. Great Video, I'm buying the T shirt! When I was standing on a platform with some mates in Gent (Belgium) and a lady asked me where to go for a train to Antwerp I got a lot of weird expressions from my travelling companions when I instantly knew the answer. Yet, many many years later who is the person everyone comes to for travel advice .................

I watched this video 6 years ago when it was released. Now I rewatched it, after having visited Corrour today myself for first time. The message of this video is still relevant. I chose Corrour 6 years ago, but only now I did what I had chosen. And it felt great. Partly just the location and feelings caused by it, partly by the wider meaning it had, and will, symbolise. Now Corrour is ticked, but there's many more corrours to be ticked in the future. Thanks for inspiring me, Geoff. This week on UK's railways has made me feel much better.

Do I have a new favourite video on RUclips? Watched 3 times and I think so. Amazing video, well shot and edited and short film with a great, positive message. It's weird to think that a single railway station in the west of Scotland with no roads could be such an icon and having been once I cannot help opening the Sleeper timetable every so often to see when I can get back.

My family sometimes don't understand why I like travelling by train so much, it's something I've loved since I was younger and we would go and visit all these heritage steam railways. I'm not a trainspotter unless it's a HST, then my eyes light up like a child who is about to be given some candy. I'm still at the stage of my life when I'm still learning and figuring out what's what but I think railways are something I'll stick with for a while. Great video Geoff, really inspirational.
p.s. I went to Corrour when I was in the scouts, we stayed at the youth hostel at Loch Ossian and walked about the area, good memories. :)

Dear Geoff, I keep coming back to this video It is so beautiful and sincere. And you play me so well in it. I accepted my nerdness about 15 years ago (and in my case it's about abandoned and demolished railways and closed stations, so lost infrastructure). Nerds rule! The more 'pointless' the journey, the better, it has to be for the whole joy of it. I love travelling through Scotland, not just for the stunning scenery, but to be in awe of the people that built these lines. Let's face it, many of us would have given up or not even bothered in the first place. Yes. This is (almost) me too. Very interested in track construction/opening dates, closing. Why routes were built where (and when) they were. Stations that used to exist. Station numbers on Edmondson tickets. Platform alterations. Siding remnants. Kooky timetables. How many sets are needed to run a service. Fare zone changes. But as for the vehicles themselves; I'll leave that for others. I'm not particularly interested in the various klaxons, horsepower, boilers, or thyristors.
The difference for me is that I rarely feel the need to go and visit locations in person. (And I'm in Australia.)

With you on this Geoff. I planned a Stafford to Penzance and back in 23hrs 52mins no HSTs back in 1982, via Crewe, Cardiff, got station stamps, then completed all the stations in WMPTE day ranger area including all the junctions and diversion routes... Loved it, Devon and Cornwall next.....

in the holidays i take the train to Edinburgh to meet family and every time as I approach Edinburgh I find myself watching this, something about it perfectly encapsulates the late night lit up scenery of the castle and the new town and the journey itself, talking to staff, going over the bridge at Newcastle, peeking inside the NRM at york. Quite the contrast to the silent isolated quaint highlands, but i feel the energy this video encapsulates is shared with the idea of a journey itself.
