Easily my favorite representation of this genus from any manufacturer. Even the forthcoming PNSO figure will be a marked second because of their recently uninspired paint schemes . As much as I appreciate the detailing I’ve always felt these behemoths should bear enormous scales or calluses on the ankle , heel , and ischium boot , especially if these animals rested their entire weight on them . A padding of spongy cartilage or perhaps some fatty tissue may have been necessary to support its mass without undue stress on the bones themselves .
An excellent point indeed! If we look at points of contact, and even in our own fragile bodies protected by everyday clothing, we can't avoid developing calluses too. The ischial boot is a very educated speculation, since that's probably what they rested on! I have to say that with regards to the colour palette, I hope that PNSO starts to explore other colour schemes. There is an increasing number of people who are complaining about the general brown base, and I can understand where they are coming from. PNSO has done a great job marrying a great sculpt with paint applications of high quality unlike other toy companies. It would be a pity if they start to lose ground because they don't change this.
You've got that right! I didn't realise it, but it looks exactly like one of the pictures that stepped out from some of my dinosaur picture books. I wish I'd thought to mention that!
I'm still absolutely blown away by the paint application on this. I wish my camera would let me really capture the colour. Safari Ltd and CollectA have got excellet sculpts, but their paint apps just keep falling behind the Chinese companies and that's a real pity. I hope one day they can level up their paint apps or they really will be left far behind, and that would be a sad fate.
Beautiful sculpt. The scalation is gorgeous. I’m a fan of conservative paint apps on dinosaurs. Give me shades of grey/brown with a little light banding and counter shade and I’m happy. That said, I feel your figure’s paint actually looks better than the box art. Great review.
You know William, I was actually surprised that a few people have expressed the same. I think the concept art was just a little too over the top for many people, and I know many people like dinosaurs that look realistic. The Blue version is anything but. Perhaps the Flame variant will be more to your liking. 😁
Wow! GR Toys is stepping it up! Based on what you showed, this really looks to be competition for PNSO’s version. Can’t wait to see your compare video when that comes out! :)
It's definitely going to be a hard fight Michael! I'l really only know when I have a product in-hand, but I'll say that if PNSO has followed the skin texturing technique shown in their Allosaurus, and GR Toys having completely upped their game in skin texturing, it will probably boil down to 1. The colouration, and 2. Whether the mouth of the PNSO can fully close 😅
For sure! They are both very good in their own way. I didn't expect how good they'd look next to each other, and I'm keeping them together when I display them!
There are definitely refinements compared to the GR Toys Spinosaurus. I liked that model very much, but the unfortunate strangement off the wrist is something I can't unsee.
I don't like the crocodile texture of that Spinosaurus. The head should also have a more pointed snout. It is not bad, but it is not scientifically correct. But this Carcharodontosaurus is already on order. It will be mine. Sorry for my translated English. I'm Brazilian, I only speak portuguese
It's truly astounding. The scale detail is insane, as you can hopefully appreciate from the video when I zoom in on the hands and feet! Together with the colour, this really looks like art!
I can't wait for them to release their Dicraeosaurus, I only own PNSO and Nanmu figures but the Dicraeosaurus is definitely going to be in my collection
I look forward to it too! GR Toys has shown it can improve quality and paint applications, and Dicraeosaurus is a sauropod I don't have a single model of. If it's 1:35 it would sweeten that pie for sure!
This guy is beautiful! I like that the company offers different colours too! Not only adds variety but also lets you headcanon one as male and the other female. I would love to see the company do a rex! Especially if they get their jaw articulation down and continue adding lips! I wish PNSO would experiment with lips.. Though from what I've heard their main sculptor is highly against it :(
I don't think he's so much against lips as that more recently, he interprets the evidence as more likely to be lipless, as he explained in his PNSO Tyrannosaurus review. His Yangchaunosaurus had lips, and Giganotosaurus as well.
Hahaha I hope the model doesn't disappoint! It's really astounding what they've done with the colour. I would never have expected this level of paint application for a mass produced model. It actually looks even better in person. My camera doesn't do it justice!
I just got this in the mail and i got to say, the detail is astounding, truly my only gripes with my figure is a slightly crooked jaw and ofcource the fact that the mouth needs a forcefull closure to appreciate the lips. 8/10 Figure IMO
That really is a pity! Considering how important lips are to many collectors, the one time they have a set of lips, the effect is ruined by one deficiency. Would have been truly awesome to have the mouth closed with no teeth at all. I didn't think it could be done, and yet looking at this model again, it definitely could have if only the QC was tighter.
Though the available fossil material is scant, I really like this representation. I just received my Blue variant and have to say the negatives are far outweighed by what I have in hand. The paint scheme is actually quite awesome. I may spring for the Flame version sometime but I’m pleased with this guy. So far, my Carch doesn’t have jaw issues. Because I prefer it in the closed position, if it starts to show a gap, a couple of drops of superglue should help and still leave it easily parted if need be.
Wow you did! I hope that the paint application is every bit as good as the first run! With a scheme this insane, I have concerns for how long it can be maintained. Then again given that GR seems to take the approach of once in a while, they don't have constantly new models to service. FWIW, I think this is the colour to get if you could only get one. The Flame is a nice to have! 😁 I'm glad your model has no jaw issues! On my part, I'm wondering when - if ever - will I get a lipped theropod with perfectly closing jaws !
@@DinosDragons I couldn’t agree more with, you and along with the PNSO Carcharodontosaurus & Torvosaurus. This was the finger I was super exited to see.
The overall sculpt work and the paint application are more refined compared to their Spinosaurus. From your review, I see that the left side looks kinda different front the right and the orange colour near the arms reminde of Hong Kong roast chicken. Perhaps it's just because I'm watching on empty stomach. I would still wait for the PNSO version before I make a decision between them as the PNSO design seems interesting too.
😂😂 If you've ever wondered how dinosaurs tasted like, there are quite a few articles online speculating about that! But I can see how that looks. At certain angles it also reminds me of Chinese sausages. The PNSO promises to be a real challenger if they maintain the same skin texturing they did with their Allosaurus. I had not expected GR Toys to reach this level of excellence after just one offering. But I also understand they collaborate with different sculptors for different products. I sure hope their next offering has the same quality. I am sooo looking forward to a new, decent sauropod!
It's going to be a very hard fight! I usually don't go on product images but rather the in-hand product to judge for myself, but I would say that sculpt-wise both will probably be equally good. Perhaps what might help many people decide would be the colour, as well as whether the mouth can fully close! 🤦♂️
Didn’t they confirm dicraeosaurus? They showed images of it and of two variants. Also I think I may want this now. From what it looks like it has a LOT of purple and I LOVE purple!!! 💜
Someone uploaded an image. When I contacted someone from GR Toys about this, they wouldn't confirm or deny. Just sent me a smiley in reply. Make of that what you will 😁 And yes... I would never have believed it if you'd told me before this I'd love a purple dinosaur. The only one I know of is Barney! And this totally blew me away! I actually chose this variant as a bit of a joke, just to see how far off the release images it would be. I was shocked!
@@DinosDragons yeah there were several images of those Dicraeosaurs. There may be videos showing them and I’m sure the Dinosaur Toy Forum shared them at some point months back. And yes it looks EPIC
Very good point. By now they have sat back and seen all the other go first, as well as the comments, critiques and curses from the fan base. So they have a real last mover advantage. I can imagine how good they could make a T Rex... but I'm glad they are going to do Dicraeosaurus first. We need more good sauropods!
Hey so what's wrong with the CollectA Carcharodontosaurus? I'm curious to hear your opinions. But I plan on getting Gamba from PNSO because I love how it looks
In my opinion, the horrible hugeass hips! A compromise in order to balance the figure on two feet without a base. I would much rather have a base, real proportions, and a more dynamic pose a base offers. It looks especially horrible from the side.
Thank you! I did think about that, but I think that if you want to make a model without a base, and want it freestanding, there are probably very limited ways you could pose them and still be able to stand. My hope is that the legs don't warp; this didn't come with a stand like the PNSOs.
I prefer the simpler colouring on the production model. The prototype is a tad too busy looking for my taste, it reminds me more of rock layers than an animal.
I believe you've hit it on the head! I did think it had a kind of opalescence, but I never made the link to rock layers or I would've mentioned that in the video! The production model really is very good. My camera doesn't do it justice at all. And it would certainly be more natural looking than the release images, which I thought looked like a creature of fantasy. 🐉
Haha I've known about it a while. It looks good but unfortunately I have to save on space, so I have to pass on this. Besides I have some suspicion GR toys is going to announce something much better 😉 so I'm saving space and money for that.
Beautiful figure, but too big as i was expecting. It looks bigger than the Eofauna giganotosaurus, although not so long. And that doesn't work for me. Of course, for all we know, it could have indeed been bigger, but i think i'll get the pnso's. But sure it's a great model.
It thought it wouldn't belong in your preferred scale 😔 Guess if you really wanted it you could choose the size estimate you want. Still if you gravitate towards smaller estimated sizes, i.e. anything less than 12.7m, then definitely this will be too big. I think either this or the PNSO would be much better than the other models we've seen so far, at least to my knowledge. And the PNSO is going to be cheaper than this, so you get to save money too! Perhaps leftover you could put into the PNSO fund... they just announced their Stegosaurus and it's going to be in the Museum Line 🤣
@@DinosDragons Yes, still, down the road i might get this one as a Saharicus, and pnso's as the smaller species. Truth is, by the way things are going i may get broke.
