    They have once again outdone themselves! The tiny scale-detail is a triumph - very gratifying to see it on the theropods as we had seen it achieved on the hadrosaurs. That detail on the belly you point out is staggering! What I find most compelling and real-animal-convincing is the columnar mass of the legs; the breadth of the shins seems like a first at this scale, conveying the muscle and tendons wrapped across the bones (for me it recalls the Irritator by Dino Hazard). The pose is a fantastic achievement in itself. You can really see this animal as a living thing moving through space. Also the silhouette from above seems just right! The breadth flows through the neck to the tail base without shrinking back.
    The paint scheme, as complicated as it is, could use some subtle washes in the lighter areas to just slightly bring out the texture. Thanks for another superb review!

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons 3 года назад +1

      Excellent observations Arnoldiepin! I wish I'd talked about that breadth of the shins, quite underappreciated but we have to consider what a real animal would really be like. Being able to imbue a model with a sense of life and living is a special thing, and many models utterly fail in this area.
      The washes will certainly do much towards putting this ahead of the GR Toys version. But I often wonder how much more PNSO could do without putting up the price 😅

      i get your point with lips, like are chat on Instagram the other day but i have to say one thing.... we still don't know for sure if any theropod had lips because just like modern day crocodiles and birds like cranes, they could have hunted in rivers seasonally. So all im saying is that just cause of updated research, that doesn't necessary mean they had lips, im all in for lips but again.... you never know

      It really boils down to personal preference or for some, emotional investment. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, so there is plenty of room for interpretation. Which is one of the reasons dinosaurs are so appealing, it allows imagination and speculation!

    Just ordered this figure (it's difficult to catch up with PNSO's speed LOL) and I'm really excited to get it. Your comparison shot between the Eofauna Giga and PNSO Carchar really shows how much improvement has gone into the quality of PNSO's sculpts over the years. The Eofauna Giga was, and still is, an amazingly accurate work of art, but when I compare it's forelimb claws to the Carchar, I see the vast difference in their quality. It almost seems like the Giga had a severe allergic reaction resulting to edematous, sausage-like fingers LOL

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons 3 года назад +1

      There are still many people who prefer EoFauna, simply because very strictly speaking, at 1:35 you might not actually be able to see so much detail. My only dislike of EoFauna is the very boring colours it has, and the Yoshi's Trike, while amazing, had the more atrocious colours. I am looking forward to seeing their Diplodocus though!

    • @rdsaplala
      @rdsaplala 3 года назад +1

      @@DinosDragons yeah, eofauna too has dramatically improved the fineness of their sculpts, the sculpt details in their atlasaurus is vastly superior to their giga and their tendency to stick to 1/35 or 1/40 (for atlasaurus) is a big plus.. unfortunately, as you mentioned, the paintwork on their trike is not the best out there.. and in my opinion, not very lifelike.
      they were already on the right track with their paintwork on the atlasaurus so i was a bit surprised with their decision on the paintjob on their trike.

    Something to also consider ; The GR Toys version retails for more than double the cost of the PNSO figure so do take that into account when deciding . I’d love to see a Saurophaganax or Lord-Of-The-Lizard-Eaters but since the, animal has incomplete fossil remains. I’m genuinely curious how, PNSO will go about making there own. For example the size estimates for Saurophaganax is 12-13meters and 5-6+ tons. So in theory it could be a, basal carcharodontosaurid. And being mega-theropod it should generally have, a larger head and smaller arms. Kinda similar to Battle At Big Rock “Adult Allo”/Saurophaganax. Or will PNSO just make it an over-sized Allosaurus? Only time will tell and, as for a. Mapusaurus finger that be, amazing along side a Tyrannotitan! as well.

    This is a beautiful model no doubt..and your review is fantastic...only issue I have with this model is they should some Grey or black wash to highlight the texture and skin folds especially in the belly region...second thing is it is really small compared to Wilson T.rex...if t.rex represents 12 meters individual as it is 1/35 scale this model should be little bit higher on the hip region even if it's considered to be 11 or 10 meter individual...the height difference is quite significant between the two model..we know that height around the hips is almost similar in these gaint therapods (Giganotosaurus, Mapusaurus, charcharodontosaurus and T.rex)

    • @DinosDragons

      Thank you! The issue with Carcharodontosaurus is how fragmentary it is. For example, Dr Larramendi did an estimate of over 12m based off a Giganotosaurus femur that was _itself an estimate_ of 143cm. Then that got revised down to 136.5cm, and the estimate of Carcharodontosaurus based on that estimate was again revised down in length and height. The femur is such a key bone and yet we're missing it for Carcharodontosaurus. We really need more evidence. Meanwhile, I just try to enjoy the models as they are 😁

    I can't choose between this one and the GR Toys model. This one has a better sculpt, but, other than the eyes, the paint doesn't even come close to the GR Toys model. It's also lacking in lips.
    I've heard that there's still discussion relating to dinosaurs having lips or not, but I prefer them having them. It looks more natural to me, and makes more sense, conskdering that modern reptiles do.

      Seems like you're inclining toward the GR Toys model. Would having the eyes repainted elevate it a bit more and help you make a decision?
      Also keep in mind that if you like lips, is it important that the model shows it? I can't speak for others, but both of my GR Toys versions don't close fully, and so are unable to fully showoff the lipped interpretation of this dinosaur 😥

      @@DinosDragons I'll admit, I'm leaning to the GR Toys model. The eyes are for sure the thing I hate most about the model, though, I'm planning on learning to paint at some point in the near future.
      I've heard several complaints about the articulation on the GR Toys model. It is one reason I'm considering the PNSO model, as I prefer the mouths of the models being closed. I'm not sure if it's common for the figures to not be able to close their mouths or not, but, I'd rather not take the chance. I've never had good luck in cases like these.

      It definitely is, Maddy! Something about it, perhaps the head shape combined with the belly area. I am glad we have more distinct theropods; after a while they are in danger of becoming a blur!

      Mine hasn't broken but then I haven't dropped it. I have dropped my old PNSO Spinosaurus (large one) before, but except for some looseness in the articulated jaw after that, it seemed fine. I won't tempt fate though. Everything is on a secure shelf with sufficient space to avoid jostling.

      Yes PNSO doesn't sculpt lips on their theropods.

      Actually, I see any dissatisfaction with the paint as a plus. If I don't like the paint, then I can save money on the model 😁
