    A tip for grinding clean, crisp edges with the roloc. Put a rigid backing plate behind the abrasive disc instead of relying on just the rubber mount. I use a metal washer that I made to fit snug on the roloc thread and spin true. You'll be surprised at the difference it makes when you are trying to grind accurately. 👍

    My friend. There are times when a person embarks on a project that is aligned with their profession. And then discovers that the project challenges his or her abilities to the point that, perhaps that "project" turns out to be something much greater.
    It's my opinion that, that's exactly what I just witnessed in this video. I think I just witnessed an extraordinary Master craftsman at work.
    Beyond that, all I can say is WOW!!!
    Keep pushing forward. You truly do have an incredible talent. Both in your ability to create, as well as your ability to teach others. 😀

    I have been thinking of doing something like this but there are so many parts. I do have a CNC plasma cutter. I will just redraw and resize all the parts. You did a nice job and I knew that it would take a lot of time. Thanks for the video. Last summer I made a life size deer. It took a long time. It turned out ok but some of the shapes were not true to life. He gets a lot of looks especially during hunting season. 😃😃😃😃😃😃

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  2 года назад

      That's awesome you have a cnc plasma cutter! If I had one, I would redesign the pieces so the bend lines had dashes cut out to aid in bending the folds. I probably would go with a thicker sheet like 16 gauge too. I can only imagine how much work a full size deer would take.....this little fox took a looooong time. Thanks for the watch!

    We were tempering our steel hardness samples today, and got some beautiful shades... maybe a bit of heat coloring? Something in the 200-250C range might be kind of Fox coloured. (Then clear coat, of course...)

    • @wayofthewrench
      @wayofthewrench  2 года назад +1

      Yeah there are lots of light/dark straws and browns to be had but I think hard to control on each polygon with a torch. If I had a big preheat oven, I could set it to a certain temp to get the whole fox to be a color and then maybe polish up sections. I was also thinking about using gun bluing too. Lots of options. Kinda leaning to a chemical rusting so it looks like that orange brown like a real fox. Thanks for the watch!

      Just for other people they could spray some kind of plasticote or other barrier. Fill with concrete. Cut a few welds so the Fox is in two half’s. You now have a workable piece to do angles quickly. The original fox can be then tack welded back together so you keep the original. But the concrete version can just be a great template so you don’t even need to think about working out angles etc… the piece you made looks epic. Personally I’d let it weather and get some patina on it. Then clear coat it to lock in the art

I have also seen people grind/score a line where the bend lines go and I have also seen people use cnc presses to accurately bend the exact angles. Yes I did. Cute lions but I was way more interested in the semitruck in the background, that thing's amazing! Nice work. I'd watch welding long term with no gloves and I'm guessing your doing safety squints too so the welding goes faster. Cancer is no joke.

      I had to look him up....I can kinda see the resemblance but I think I'm like the Arnold version of the twins and not the Divito....lol. Thanks for the watch!

      Yeah that would make another good tool for something like this. I used to have one but found the students ruin the blades too quick because they cut welding rods or thicker gauge material. I should look into getting another one, thanks for the suggestion and the watch!

      Yeah I hear ya but I was looking for a specific polygon look. Cheers!

    nice job. cool peace of art. However as for someone who spend nearly an hour watching this I was disappointed you didn't give it a final finish by coating it or painting it or something like that. I felt like it was a long an hour wait to see an unfinished product. your wife messed up

      Thanks! Don't be disappointed, I made a whole video on applying a finish. It's in the welding playlist. Hopefully I earned your subscription today. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
