Also as I understand it the domains have the following jobs: 68K RAM - The CPU's main memory. Corruption leads to crashes in most cases but using the Freeze engine leads to more visual glitches and the Pipe engine produces similar results to the Nightmare engine, but due to the different way it works also leads to less fatal errors because the emulator can be rewound and the pipes cleared to undo what caused the problem. Z80 RAM - The sound chip's memory containing sound data. The Freeze Engine can have good results but corruption can also lead to crashes. MD Cart - Not sure, but it seems to hold graphics data among other things. For me corrupting this always leads to an unplayable game state. Boot ROM - The Firmware Bootloader. Doesn't affect gameplay or anything else. SRAM - In S3&K's case it's saved data. Otherwise no clue. CRAM - Palette Storage. Corruption doesn't lead to immediate results so my theory is that it acts as a buffer between ROM and 68K RAM. VSRAM - It seems to contain the y-Offset between Sprites and Tiles i.e. Sonic and the level. VRAM - Everything that is required for displaying the game, Sprites, Tiles, etc. Doesn't have an effect on gameplay. M68K Bus - A complete copy of the ROM data. High intensity corruption can lead to game crashes and visual glitches. Also feel free to ask me if you have any more questions and I'll try to answer them :) I will keep this updated if I find anything new or need to correct something.
10:00 What intro are you talking about? Are you thinking of Sonic 3? 10:30 If you're talking about when you died, that's supposed to happen. You can't attack the boss when it's curled up like that; it'll just hurt you.
Corruptions are the most hilarious thing. Honestly, I can't wait until someone figures out what spaces certain bits of the game's features (ie: physics, sounds, graphics, RAM, etc) are, so that you can then pinpoint "oh hey, corrupt these bits" and basically fine-tune corruptions to a perfect art. I'm reminded of a RUclipsr I watch who tried to primarily focus on corrupting music at one point, some of the results which ensued were *glorious*.
Maximilian Stern If he disables 68k ram then theres no corruption at all. It literally is the game. At most if will be like a recolor hack, there will be no anything, no level mess ups, no random supersonic, nothing.
Sonic 1's sound driver runs on the 68000 processor and the code is stored in ROM, Sonic 2 and S3K's sound driver runs on the Z80 processor and the code is run from the Z80 RAM. As for preventing crashes, it might help if you could tell it to avoid certain areas of RAM that store pointers for things.

There is actually a game-breaking glitch that you can do without any engines. If you use debug mode and get killed, before you go off screen, go into debug mode and place something. The game will either crash will lots of pixelated glitches or you'll be able to continue playing but the colour palette will go crazy.
@@sawnik2 It isn't. Plus Tails doesn't die: it's just a reminder that you didn't save him in that game. Most likely he gets roboticised into a badnik and is technically still alive.
i love these videos and cant wait for sonic 3 corruptions and knuckles! sonic 3k you could break in debug mode thanks to how much more complex it was laid out, cant imagine what corruptions would do to it. great series and a thumbs up,
See, this is what I love about corruptions! Of course, it's great for mindless fun with garbled graphics, sounds and physics, but it can force the game to show us behind-the-scenes mechanics or unused content! (Such as unused Doomguy sprites in SNES Doom, when the only used sprite of Doomguy was front-facing and firing! On the surface, because of the garbled "Continue?" graphics in normal gameplay, it looks to me like the Continue countdown uses the ring value and counts down like in Super Sonic! It must use the same value as the rings, because you collecting rings increased the number! The number also wasn't decreasing because Super Sonic was inactive! (I could be wrong, but it's fun to speculate!) Also, yes, I have looked around and pressing C at an error message in Sonic 1 DOES force the game to continue! If you do revisit Sonic 1, I'd love to see what happens if the player falls out of the Special Stage! Does it crash the game in the same way it does for the GBA port? Either way, I'm really looking forward to more!
7:11 i think the game loaded the continue phrase, but it wasn't loaded so it was replaced with random sprites. also the countdown was changed to the ring counter because they are both increasing and decreasing numbers. no one noticed, so i wanted to pointed it out. also, to much explanation to a corruption
so one time I saw tails and Sonic rise and roll corruption video then he just slammed his hand back down and tails was gone and then he just picked it back up as if he just stabbed tails and he had troubles getting it out of his chest. That was more graphic than I meant it to be

If I may ask, who was the RUclipsr in question and what parts of the music specifically did they try to corrupt?
I like how that "Continue?" display corruption essentially shows us that they actually use the _ring counter_ as the continue timer in the code... xD

If you don't want to kill the sound you should deselect Z80 RAM corruption. Seems to be the sound chip or something.

Makes sense when I think about it, but I still don't recommend using the Nightmare engine on 68K RAM.
