Michel Platini is arguably France's best-ever footballer.
Platini was the brightest star in the world back then, winning three Ballons d'Or consecutively in 1983, 1984 and 1985.
Football lovers cried with him when France lost in the World Cup semi-finals again in 1986.

Been waiting for this video. Platini is for me an all-round better footballer than Zidane. I saw this man dominate Euro/World football 82 to 85 (econd only to Maradona. Hs range of passing was second to none, had great vision, dribbling ability (on old style pitches) and the 2nd best goal scorer from midfield I ever saw. Plus he scored so many goals in what was by far the best defensive league (Italy) without the protection modern day footballers get. A deadly free kick artist, he carried both Juve and France for years and was robbed of W Cup final in 86.
Don't get me wrong Zidane is more graceful and had a better first touch and is a fantastic player... but if Platini played in the same or later era he would be spoken about in th same way as Zidane,,, his game was well ahead of his time. Corruption scandal aside one of the best to ever do it. (PS Ask Juv fans who watched both who is the greater legend)

Platini was elegant and graceful on the pitch. He had a rather long and successful career on both levels: club and international. France won that '84 Euro simply because of him.
The same things can't be said about Zidane though. Even though putting up awesome moves every now and then he did also get several red cards for dirty play. His peak also was rather short: a few nice summer runs in World Cups and a wondergoal in UCL, outside of that nothing too special. He played several seasons for the first candy man team in Madrid with a long list of legends and could only provide one UCL win. He also ended his whole career in disgrace. Materazzi proved that Zidane was a hothead who could explode at any moment.
Platini for me every day of the week, twice on sundays.

Zidane needed a man to dribble in front of him in order to do something amazing with his soloism and balance. In the build up play, especially one or two touch, as well as in offensive positioning and movement he was a bit limited.
Juventus's president Agnelli called him "more entertaining than useful" after selling him, and rated Platini higher as well

Is this the reason why FIFA has officially removed every Platini's content from it's social networks?
    Here's a hint:
FIFA released in RUclips a video about top french footballers of all time, Platini wasn't mentioned.

every Juventus fan that has watched both will tell you that there is no comparison Platini all the way .....Not only Platini scored more but scored more in a time where goals were rarer ....had he played in this era with so many free kicks he would triple amount of goals . Only people that haven't watched Platini can say Zidane (Maldini played against both and didn't even mention Zidane)

Something people don't give props to old time players is that back then, not only they paid less. But getting injured was more frequent since the rules were more lenient. Meaning you could injure key players as part of your tactic.

Assists count from back then is definitely flawed (not your fault) as I'm pretty sure he netted way more than 49. Platini 83-85 is very close as overall level to Maradona 86-90. Best passer of the ball ever (together with Totti) and better playmaker and goalscorer (and free kick taker) than Zidane, who in turn was a better soloist and dribbler.

Maradona is extremely overrated, before Mexico 86 he was unimportant, after 1986 he was overshadowed by other stars who in my opinion were much better than him. Like Lothar Matthäus, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkart, Van Basten, Baggio. The only time where Maradona shine was in Mexico 86 and despite this his participation was tarnished for cheating against England

Without forgetting his repeated use of drugs while he was active, and also during his career as a coach. How can we forget when Maradona came to train Dorados de Sinaloa in Mexico and gave interviews to the media completely drugged or in Russia 2018 when he was seen again completely drugged

@@Aioradeleo27 nah his prime lasted until 1990. He won two league titles, one national cup and the Uefa cup with Naples in a very difficult era. Plus one world cup and one final with Argentina. Both quite lucky and with refereeing decisions in their favour but still.
Before 86 he was already considered the most talented player in the world. At the 90 WC he was outshone by other players but still was the leader of his team. He went nowhere in the Copa America. Because he was indeed human and people should stop obnoxiously idolizing him but that's how fanboys are.
Pelè and Di Stefano (at least) are ahead of him, and Maradona agreed to that

    • @Aioradeleo27
      @Aioradeleo27 Месяц назад

@@carlosimotti3933 No, he was not, before 1986 Platini was considered the most talented player in the world, even Platini has more notable feats at the club level than Maradona since his beginnings. Another example is Lothar Matthäus reached 3 consecutive World Cup finals, Spain 82, Mexico 86 and in Italy 90 he was the figure of that World Cup masterfully leading Germany. He also won a UEFA Cup and an Italian league. In addition to winning everything with Bayern. In my opinion Platini and Matthäus were much better players than Maradona, it's just that Maradona has a whole propaganda apparatus in his favor, to sell the narrative that he was the best of all time when clearly he is not.
