My thoughts on how to test the catching capabilities of the tower would be:
    1) Remove the hot staging ring from a booster and put an aerodynamic cap on top of it instead.
    2) Launch just the booster with a limited fuel load & maybe pressurize the fuel tanks using nitrogen.
    3) Try landing the booster just offshore from StarBase, still inside US territorial waters, using the virtual tower method until they get that right.
    4) After the Virtual Tower landings are working correctly, then launch just the booster again with limited fuel to start testing the catching maneuver with the real tower.
The same steps 2-4 can be done with the upper stage.
There is no reason that full orbit testing can not be done at the same time as this would allow full orbit testing of all functions of the upper stage including re-entry heat resistance, but flying the limited fuel tests 'should' be possible in-between the orbit launches, therefore getting more landing testing done.
The booster does not have to go as high as the upper stage testing because it does not need to do the horizontal maneuver like the upper stage does.
I mean, how long does it take to build a booster for a limited fuel testing of first the virtual tower landing and than the landing tests using a real tower?
SpaceX already is planing to build additional towers at StarBase, so use multiple towers to do multiple flights in a day.
Until landing tests are being done with real towers, I would think each tower could launch at least one test a day, if not more, unless a tower get damaged during a launch.

      1) Why?
      3) .... yes, building and making it operational will take at least a year; and getting approval for that, hahahaha
      4) Okay, so you say, "let's build the same tower twice", and then test it on the real tower, ....

FUNKY THOUGHT ABOUT LANDING CAPTURE --->>> SpaceX should study the extending and retracting feeding tentacles of Giant Squid. If they could create a hydraulic pair of those, they could seriously increase the "forgiveness factor" of the landing procedure on the Mechazilla. A couple of giant catchers mitts reaching out and caressing the ship as it approaches; pulling it onto the chopsticks, should make the lives of the landing astronauts much more reliably valuable.
Would be nice to know the difference in lift off weight vs landing weight of the Booster and Starship. I'm guessing landing weight is 10% of lift off weight.

If the catch arms can handle picking up both stages stacked together then it might be strong enough for reuse but the week link is where the cage that holds the arms attaches to the tower there are rollers and a track welded to the tower legs also the cables that holds all of the weight of the arms, cage, and all the mechanical to make the arm work Now when it catches the ship or booster all of there weight all on the cables will they stretch under such a load ! This system will require lots of maintaining for rapid reusable the whole system is probably obsolete already !

Are we smart enough yet to design satellites after breakdown, user life decay, obsolescence to switch to seek mode where they either sail to a moon recycling station or nearest passing space tug to refuel it with its 80%volumne that by adding a catalyst turns it into a gas, liquid fuel for storing top ups.lol

Rapid reusability is currently a fantasy. And define rapid, is it 3 months between flights, or is it 4 months? As long as the starship has tiles, and the booster has no viable landing mechanism, re-useability is many years away.

I think the project of going to the moon, or mars should be scrapped. There are other planets that would be best suited to travel to, but the technology does not exist to travel out of our solar system. Starting a colony on mars well I wonder how long one way travelers will last before dying on Mars.
There are planets that I saw I would consider living on besides Earth if I was given an opportunity to travel towards those planets, and Mars is not one of those planets!
Our solar system has a certain amount of planets, but there is more than only one solar system in the universe, and there are other planets besides: Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Neptune, Earth, Uranus, Mercury, Pluto.
