Cello Tailpiece Comparison- Bois d'Harmonie Pernambuco vs Frirsz Matte Black Alloy

- We compare the Bois d'Harmonie Pernambuco Tailpiece and the Frirsz Matte Black Alloy Tailpiece on the exact same cello, our Braga model. Played by Megan Scott. Same player. Same cello. Same strings. Same bow. We switched the tailpieces to compare the sounds and response. No other changes or adjustments were made to the cello.

Interesting, First time I listened I definitely preferred the Bois dHarmonie tail piece as it sounded tighter more together in the lower regions. But then listening again I think I can see where the Frisz is coming from but maybe the distance from tailpeice to bridge is too long! so may sound better if correctly adjsuted?
I could really hear the difference. The first one sounded too metallic. The second was warm and rich.

d'Harmonie sounds more responsive and seems to have more Fidelity. the frirsz seems to be louder
d'Harmonie sounds better to me but there is no significant difference. Anyway i don't feel like tailpiece makes a lot of difference, endpin makes more. My old metal thomastik works just fine and buying a new one seems pointless I tryed few other cheaper tailpieces (ebony, plastic), they were all similar, just ebony was more silent, plastic was dull, metal causes to bring out some more overtones so I'm going to stick with that :)
Megan Here. As a player I believe that tailpieces make quite a difference both in sound and in playability. It was interesting to me that the response with both instruments were different. The Frirsz made the instrument easier to play and the Bois d'harmonie gave it a slighty warmer sound. If you compare the Bois d'Harmonie Pernambuco Tailpiece to the same makers Ebony, there is a huge sound difference. I believe once you know what sound you like it really makes sense to look at the tailpieces to maximize the sound on your cello.
Interesting. I like the Frirsz. Listened twice. The sound seemed more even and rich across the instrument compared to the Bois d'Harmonie.
