Hope you all enjoy the video! - Just noticed some of the dates for the later game aren’t showing correctly on the video. It should be Trackmania Turbo (PS4) - 2016 | Trackmania - 2020
Hey! I was wondering if you’d find this since you’ve started streaming Trackmania! Seems like we have similar taste in games! Waiting for your next obsession to be Umihara Kawase ;) glad you enjoyed the video!
Trackmania Original Oro was a special version of TMO only released in Spain, I think (oro means gold in Spanish). It was my entrance to the series back in 2005. It was sold together with a newspaper. Great memories, still have it to this day.
Yes, you're right. Oro means gold in Spanish, and that version was sold as "gift" by buying a famous newspaper in our country, El Mundo (as you can see in the front cover of the game). It includes Tracmania original game with the power up and speed up expansions. It was my first game of the series and I still love playing. Nice video, by the way!
I remember buying trackmania sunrise at a book fair when I was in elementary school and I played it non stop. Best one imo. But I've only played two of the games
the coast car controls a lot more like a realistic car compared to the more arcade like cars of the other enviroments. It's basically a completely different game
Really great and detailed retrospective, a video like this in English was really needed for the TrackMania series. Awesome stuff! Also, it's so nice to look at so many different physical copies of TrackMania games, nice collection. I really like how you listed the game's exact history in the description, and was glad to see you talk about Firebrand's other DS racing game ventures that are related to the DS TrackMania games, similar engine, similar track creators. So awesome that you also mentioned 3D, VR and ManiaPlanet's modding capabilities. Cheers! Some notes though: TrackMania Nations ESWC is still free to download from the official website, and there are tutorials on how to run it on Windows 10. You showed TrackMania Nations Forever (2008) gameplay instead of ESWC (2006), could've been nice to show ESWC as there were some slight differences in textures wise... Also for showing United Forever gameplay when talking about United (non-Forever, the menus in non-Forever looked a little but different), but since the Forever update, the non-Forever version of the game become quite obsolete and hard to run properly on modern OSs, so that's fine. Could've pointed out exactly which version you are showing gameplay from. Wrong date when showing TrackMania Turbo, it was released in 2016, and the new TrackMania in 2020. ZeratoR's TrackMania cup is not the official World Cup. For many years the official world cup was hosted during/under the Electronic Sports World Cup (just like how the first Nations game has ESWC in its name as the game was made for ESWC), and since a couple of years it has been the TrackMania Grand League. I hope you don't mind me noting these stuff, just as a hardcore TM fan, this is what I've noticed. It's possible to see these as pretty unimportant stuff, so sorry again. But it doesn't lower my enjoyment for this video. Such an extensive retrospective is still amazing to see, and we all thank you for that!
Thanks! And thank you for the detailed notes! I knew there would be things I got wrong or didn’t realise so I really appreciate you pointing them out! Think for TM Turbo I confused the release of the DS game with the release of the PS4 game..
I had no idea Track Mania had a long history. I’ve only played turbo on Xbox gamespass. Brilliant video. Thanks. A load of work to make that. Appreciate it.
This video hasn't aged well.. 'favorite streamer Riolu'.. (Other than that, great video!! I'm still sad that I can't get my original copy of Trakcmania United Forver to work anymore, because the old emailaddress I used for the key, got hacked and I can't get the key on a new account.. Nadeo doesn't want to help getting it back sadly (even though I have the physical copy lol)
Great vid, my experience with trackmania is similar to yours, as in long term player but just got back into it with the new version. I will check out the TM 1 project, I loved the snow!
Or in short: TM1, TMO, TMS, TMSX, TMN/TMNESWC, TMU, TMUF, TMNF, TMDS, TMDS2/TMT, TMWii, TM2, TM2020. I love this game but it's hard not to get confused about all the different versions.
Great video Nick! Seemed like a major task tackling all the games in this series so props to you for the effort. I think I could only handle retrospectives on series with 5 games or less!
Of course you had Breakbot's music playing during Trackmania Turbo, it's the best music in the game! I just wish music didn't reset/change whenever you reset the track considering how often you have to do that for the harder levels. I am still stuck on the final black races where it seems like they're so hard it takes me almost a week just to get one gold medal.
Dude, me and my mates played Trackmania Nations Forever for yeaaaars online, in LAN parties. I never both loved and hated a game so much in my life, cause it's so much fun but it's so bloody hard XD Great video, brought back good memories!

Awesome video, but small correction, Trackmania United didn't release at the same time as Nations. Nations came out in January 2006 and United came out in November 2006 in France and in other countries months later in 2007 TMN was my first Trackmania and I remember being so hyped when they announced United, also I hated how french people got the game so much earlier
Loved this video. Brought back many, many memories. I think the game I sank most hours into was Nations but hadn't played any TM games since then.... until now. I downloaded it on My PS4 and Series S and can feel myself getting hooked all over again....
Got into the series with Power Up, and Trackmania Nations/United/Forever were an online addiction for me for quite a while! Great to see the series getting some love.
I remember how sad little baby me was when I saw that Trackmania United got the forever upgrade. Fortunately the upgrade came as a free update. No more young crybaby me.
such an interesting and fascinating video mate!! even though im a huge fan of the license; you taught me so much things throughout your video, there were litteral trackmania games i didnt even know about! thanks for this retrospective !
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it and learned something new! I love doing these retrospective videos but they take sooo long to research and collect everything for!
Im in love with this series aswell since I first played it at the age of 5 in 2008 (Trackmania nations) the quiet sunrise music at 4:20 brought goosebumps in miliseconds xD this is a great video btw, keep it up ok I just played through ur club tracks: Rollercoaster tycoon: 6/10 Track 2 5/10
I am also a proud owner of Nations ESWC as a hard copy. Bought it a few years ago, because I knew I would never see it again ^^ Ive invested countless hours in the older games.
Can i ask you how much you paid for the physical copy of Nations ESWC ? I have the french version of the physical copy (booklet included) I created a redit post on r/TrackMania and posted a picture of it a few hours ago
@@bionicsidekick6604 Very cool, nice to hear. I bought it used from a lady and paid about 10€. No idea where she had it from but when I saw it I needed to have it.
I had a blast watching this video even tho it is 2 years old, I love trackmania and this is just so cool to see, time went so quickly watching this video haha
Nice video! I havent seen a video yet on youtube that talks about nadeos history, the beginning of their first game, and the chronilogical order each game came out, with the year is came out, and some gameplay footage, and even footage of yourself showing what the hard copies look like. I think youre the only video on youtube to do that. Well done, I hope to get every trackmania game someday. Hope youtube doesnt delete this comment
@@RetroBreak Oh yeah, I discovered Trackmania very late, if only I played on a computer instead of a Ps2 and Xbox360 during 2003-2016. I'm getting older now and kind of tired of the new releases coming out, so I'm gonna dive back into every missing game from my childhood and repurchase all of them, aswell as any other retro game that looks really cool, and I'll designate a room in my home to be a retro video game/console room, like most others would. I'll check out some other retro games you've covered. Cheers!
Very optimistic video. Unfortunately, you don't say anything about bad ideas that creators forces into this game. One of the worst was TM Turbo, which from the beginning was game designed to be "final product". What that means? Well, they just made one fix (because bug was huge, related to game controllers) and then stops providing any updates. It was like "we created final product, which works great and is bugfree". Show me other game creators who are so confident and cocky. But that was not the worst of this game - the worst was servers system. Instead of dedicated server, this game allows all users to create their own "gameservers" by few clicks, hosted by Nadeo. All you need was to show which maps you want to put in server, name your server, adds few more informations and click "create". So then players have huge, nonsense number of servers contains only one single map (created by server's author) or populated by default Nadeo maps. Thousands of empty servers without possibility to filter them (like "show me servers with at least 5 community maps" etc). And because servers are forever (they starts when player wants to enter and can be removed only by server author, which was not the case because after someone starts the server, it doesn't care anymore) it creates total chaos. Empty servers, no possibility to find it by name, the same maps on 99% servers etc. So this game, even if had potential, ends very quickly. I was trying once to made statistics by getting all servers informations from web and, when I skipped original default maps, there was average one map per server. And, what is most stupid there - game creators refuses to made any changes, because... TM Turbo was "final products" and "we do not plan any changes". So now TM Turbo is still nice looking game, but nobody plays it. Congratulations.
Great video, I'm primarily a TMUF guy but might just go back to the older ones even though i was a literal toddler when the original released. Looks pretty fun!
nice video there.. personally i spent hundreds of hours in TMN ESWC online back in the day.. it holds so many awesome memories of mine as i was like 12 back then.) also means i'm soo freaking jealous of those who own the physical copy of that particular entry as it is one of only few missing entries missing in my 40+ most favorite PC games collection here's to hopin tm esport returns sometime soon.. also yeah hearing you hype up Riolu was genuinely funny after his cheating scandal and falloff.. keep it up
I've been into the series since United Forever but hearing the backstory and stuff about the previous games really got me interested in owning them. Congrats on the physical collection though man and I gotta say I was sad I missed out on the DS and Wii ones. Great video dude for sure. Turbo (XB1/PS4/PC) was okay but no car skin creation or easy track sharing was it's downfall
Glad you enjoyed it! The earlier games are still worth playing if you’ve never played them before :) especially Sunrise as it feels almost the same as United. The Wii and DS games are pretty good too!
Congrats on the video you may remember me from an email conversation about helping the video but didn't help because the text got deleted, anyway i'm at least glad I could help.
@@RetroBreak Haha thanks for the reminding, I've watched the video and I love it! (I like the fact that you still answering comments after 8 months haha) ps. congratulations with the 10k subs! You really deserve it man :)
i actually found a physical copy of Nations ESWC a few years ago for 5 bucks in a old games bin somewhere, i could see if i can still find it, but its unlikely
a couple seconds after 7:44 he says some guy already got him a copy of ESWC. I tried the same thing and I found all these safe links on how to get the game off nadeos website and follow a youtube tutorial to get it to work on Windows 10, and then I found out he already had it. Then youtube deleted my comment anyways for some strange reason. Then I posted another comment just to get back at youtube for wasting alot of my time, and then youtube deleted that comment aswell. TROLOLOLOLOLOLOL
The Forever expansions were probably the best versions of these games and I'm kind of disappointed he didn't cover them separately (like he did with TrackMania Power-Up)
@@sasafras4743 it got revealed that riolu used to cheat thoughout his whole trackmania carreer with over 1000 cheated records uploaded to the leaderboards over the course of 10+ years. check out wirtual cheating scalndal riolu or something like that for more details. basically he played the game in slow motion (like 40% speed) to achieve maximum precision
In United segment you show Forever version of the game, while the original United has a different interface. It's a small nuance, yet is important to me due to nostalgia for tge original pre-forever version, which I also have on a disc
I personally suggest checking out the original games, the sequel games via. the Mania Planet service and Trackmania Turbo as a used physical copy, if you want to play the games without supporting Ubisoft.
@@RetroBreak That's a problem, considering the background behind Ubisoft and their actions. That's why I said what I said, not because I didn't want to support the developers, but because I didn't want to support Ubisoft. Trackmania Turbo and maybe the reboot (I haven't played it, so I don't know for sure) use Ubisoft's built in client much like a lot of their other games, which has unfortunately led to so many of them becoming unplayable with the change to Ubisoft Connect. The old games up to Trackmania United Forever don't have a separate client I think, and Trackmania 2 uses Nadeo's original client: Mania Planet, which has proven to be very good as a modding tool for the game. So those games are good additions for PC, whereas Trackmania Turbo is more ideal for consoles. Again, never played the reboot, so I don't know what the reception for that is.
Trackmania Nations ESWC was probably one of the first games I ever played, I sucked at it but wanted to beat my siblings, and it didn't work out :D I still love all the games though and have probably played them way too much
Hey, good video! I still have my own copy of Trackmania (2003). My brother gifted it to me, and by the time I had a PC that could run it, the DRM was unsurpassable. I'd love to be able to figure out how to get around it.
Thanks glad you enjoyed the vid! It took me ages to figure out how to get it to run! Had to download some patches and a virtual machine running windows XP and even then it only worked once and I can’t get it to open again! :( it’s a bit easier to get Original to run if you want to play the classic style and don’t mind the updates graphics and menus!
You can't play most of the games on Windows 10 because they're copy protected by the crappy software StarForce that doesn't work anymore. If you have an XP machine laying, you can make it work, or either via a VM
8:51 Not everything. Crazy mode didn't come back, neither did Cup mode nor Survival mode, 7 ghosts is no longer an option, Nadeo ghosts no longer have medal skins like Sunrise, old car skins didn't return and got replaced by lame, generic ones, and the soundtrack got both smaller and significantly worse (with the exception of Desert and Stadium environments). Island went from having the best soundtrack in Sunrise to having the worst soundtrack in United. And then with the Forever update, they also made the music system worse by making the song reset (or go to the next one) every time you get a new medal which is really annoying (it worked in Original because the songs looped really well, you also had post-race/replay music, editor music and even music for every Medal). That's why I could never consider United as the ultimate Trackmania experience of that era and much prefer the standalone games (Original + Sunrise, ESWC is barebones so United is better for Stadium at least) which also have their own unique Campaigns not playable in United (+ it wouldn't make sense copying them over because of the changed physics and ghosts incompatibility).
Not sure Trackmania Nations came in an official box. It was mostly released with magazine CDs and on the internet, "sold" as both sorta demo for the other games and a way to e-sport for the series. Kinda ironic the Stadium took the lead for the whole series with TM2 and TM2020.
@@dimitrilerner4959 Yes it did. I bought Trackmania Nations in a parisian store around 15 years ago. and it's clearly official. I even have the booklet inside the case. But it seems like it was only released in France and Germany and was a very limited edition.
I once did see a few guys playing chess with bottlecaps, saltshakers and a few other random stuffs as chess pieces.. I also did see a chessboard in marble, with pieces in crystal glass. But.. it is still the same game.. I dont think chess would be better played on an air hockey table as TM feels today. I like tm 2020 but I love the old TM-NF
Hey i think you probably wont see this since its such an old vid, but i think you should remove riolus twitch since he was found to have cheated for a long time.

I was about to say I’m pretty sure I covered every physical release, then I just saw your edit! Haha, thanks for watching anyway hope you enjoyed the video! :)
No Trackmania isn’t on the switch. The last nintendo one was Turbo (different to the new Turbo game on PS4 and Xbox) on the DS. Also no Bay and Lagoon are different. Bay is from Sunrise and more about the city and has a lot of concrete structures, whereas lagoon is on a tropical island and has a lot of roller coaster style tracks and beaches.

And, what is most stupid there - game creators refuses to made any changes, because... TM Turbo was "final products" and "we do not plan any changes". So now TM Turbo is still nice looking game, but nobody plays it. Congratulations.
Very well researched and presented video my dude!
You have made very intresting video about my favourite game series of childhood and present tense
Great retrospective Nick. I didn't know the series was as old as it is. ; )
Thanks glad you enjoyed :) I think a lot of people first found out about it thanks to the free Nations game
Great video, I'm primarily a TMUF guy but might just go back to the older ones even though i was a literal toddler when the original released. Looks pretty fun!
Thanks! The older ones are still really fun to revisit! Enjoy
nice video there.. personally i spent hundreds of hours in TMN ESWC online back in the day.. it holds so many awesome memories of mine as i was like 12 back then.) also means i'm soo freaking jealous of those who own the physical copy of that particular entry as it is one of only few missing entries missing in my 40+ most favorite PC games collection
here's to hopin tm esport returns sometime soon..
also yeah hearing you hype up Riolu was genuinely funny after his cheating scandal and falloff.. keep it up
Ah yes, the newest Trackmania, released in the year "2" :P
For real though, excellent video. I like your style.
The titles glitch sometimes which is really annoying! 😭 it did say 2020 when I was working on it! :( glad you enjoyed it anyway :)
Excellent video! I've never played a Track Mania game, but they look really cool so I'm definitely going to have to give one a go.
Check out the new one if you’re interested it’s free to download :)
You know that you are a trackmania fan when you played all that is show on the video without looking this video before
its sad that some of the other songs by doo are lost media now
great video! i got into TM in 2020 with nations forever, stadium 2 and 2020 and im having a blast/ it's competitive but also really fun.
Thanks :) glad you enjoyed it! It’s a great series :)
The first Trackmania had the most 2000's menu theme
Thanks for offering to help anyway! Glad you enjoyed the vid
watching this video in july 2022 and hear that Riolu is one of his favourite streamers makes me laugh hard xD...
I mean, he did make great content, despite the fact that he cheated most of his records
Great video, I really enjoyed it! Have you ever made a video about the main series Pokémon games? Maybe a new video idea:)
No I don’t think I’ve done a Pokemon video before! Definitely plan to at some point :)
Hey just came across this comment! I did a video on the Pokémon series a few weeks ago if you have a look back at my uploads :)
I played trackmania nations like crazy because it was the only game on my cousins computer.
Really enjoyed this Video. Great one!
me when i see the TMU recording: *wait, thats TMUF.*
The Forever expansions were probably the best versions of these games and I'm kind of disappointed he didn't cover them separately (like he did with TrackMania Power-Up)
I wanted to, but couldn't get it running properly so I just bundled them together in this video :( sorry!
Great job! Such memories. Thank you.
Thank you glad you enjoyed it :)
11:00 this has not aged well...
why?
@@sasafras4743 it got revealed that riolu used to cheat thoughout his whole trackmania carreer with over 1000 cheated records uploaded to the leaderboards over the course of 10+ years. check out wirtual cheating scalndal riolu or something like that for more details. basically he played the game in slow motion (like 40% speed) to achieve maximum precision
In United segment you show Forever version of the game, while the original United has a different interface. It's a small nuance, yet is important to me due to nostalgia for tge original pre-forever version, which I also have on a disc
I only mis the ghost editor in trackmania 2020
Whats the Music at 12:18 called?
I personally suggest checking out the original games, the sequel games via. the Mania Planet service and Trackmania Turbo as a used physical copy, if you want to play the games without supporting Ubisoft.
Why would you not want to support the developer where possible?
@@RetroBreak Not the developer. Just Ubisoft.
Nadeo is owned by Ubisoft, so you need to buy from Ubisoft in order to support them
@@RetroBreak That's a problem, considering the background behind Ubisoft and their actions.
Trackmania Nations ESWC was probably one of the first games I ever played, I sucked at it but wanted to beat my siblings, and it didn't work out :D I still love all the games though and have probably played them way too much
I wish Trackmania 2 would be ported to Switch. That would be a dream come true for me.
Personally I don't like the newest game.
I would love that! Or even United would be amazing on the switch!
@@RetroBreak agreed!
I must be the odd one out, but lagoon is my favourite environment. It is more of a beginner trap than anything else imo.
What do you like about Lagoon? The on road sections are ok, but the grass and sand is too slippery!
Thanks for the reply. It sounds like quite the headache...
Wirtual Skipper lets go
You can't play most of the games on Windows 10 because they're copy protected by the crappy software StarForce that doesn't work anymore. If you have an XP machine laying, you can make it work, or either via a VM
The series peaked at Trackmania United Forever, and I will die on this hill.
Yes it did, I managed to track it down! Here’s a photo :) twitter.com/retrobreaknick/status/1287002478953799680?s=46&t=Irpc-QdqEVFhOnfcfhlQgQ
@@dimitrilerner4959
Yes it did. I bought Trackmania Nations in a parisian store around 15 years ago.
and it's clearly official. I even have the booklet inside the case.
But it seems like it was only released in France and Germany and was a very limited edition.
Is the nations eswc video still coming
Maybe... I got the game in the end, and even better, I found some of the courses I made from back then on an old hard drive! :D
10:58 that didn't age well lmao
speed up was a patch it changed the physics slightly and it messed up a bunch of my tracks i remember that.
Love this kind of video, keep it up
Very well researched video, you have my sub. 😊
Thanks glad you enjoyed it! Can’t wait to add Nations to my collection :)
Awesome video
Hey i think you probably wont see this since its such an old vid, but i think you should remove riolus twitch since he was found to have cheated for a long time.
First 😂 Good video, do you watch Thomas game docs? This video is sort of his style
Thanks :) no I’ve not heard of him.. will have to check it out!
RetroBreak hes amazing
EDIT: After Watched that i got plenty time. He said already on video. ^^; sorry for that
looks like youre missing one trackmania that has came free but also came as well as PHysical release too. it has green box
I was about to say I’m pretty sure I covered every physical release, then I just saw your edit! Haha, thanks for watching anyway hope you enjoyed the video! :)
I have a question is Trackmania DS are support DS lite or 2003 DS?
If I remember correctly United forever was free if you had original United
Not heard of this series before. I’ll keep an eye out for the Wii version next time I’m in CEX.
Think the wii one is pretty cheap so should be easy to find! Enjoy :)
Thank you, super video
Amazing and interesting video!
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
21:01 nice livery lmao
what TM players call Nadeo: NandOMEGALUL
Trackmania turbo is available on pc, Xbox, and Nintendo switch. Oh and, lagoon is bay. (Nations forever and Shootmania storm!)
