Food & alcohol often go hand in hand as problematic. I loved hearing someone speak on this topic! I agree the alcohol has to be tackled first and the food issue tag buddies right behind pretty naturally!
I related to so much of this. I also grew up in a small town where we rode around and drank for entertainment. Yikes. And I also relate to the experience with nursing homes. Sadly my brother spent the last few years of his life in a nursing home. It's beyond heartbreaking. I do remember thinking that so many of the people there were about my age (50's) or slightly older. During the time he was there I stopped drinking alcohol. I started by doing an internet search for "am I an alcoholic?" and came across The Alcohol Experiment. I've been AF for 3 years and 9 months now and have zero desire to go back to a drinking lifestyle.
Wow. What she said at around 4 minutes about felt like she was describing me going through life with undiagnosed ADHD. Then it occured to me that we are masking! Just like neurodiverse people mask to get by we are masking the true nature of what we are dealing with and trying to pretend we know what we are doing and everything is fine. Masking our butts off!

I love it @vickiegordon1959. I think we are even the same age! Congrats on discovering alcohol freedom and having zero desire to go back!
That's awesome @vickiegordon1959! So happy you've found your freedom and could connect with Dr Ginny this way!
