I use tule (the stuff used to make bridal veils) from the fabric store, its simple, does not scratch glass or acrylic, it is cheap, lasts for years and the best thing I have ever found to removed algae from tank glass.
I was unaware that there were any magic eraser types that did not include cleaner. Get one wet with regular water and rub your finger on it and it definitely has some sort of chemical in there. Warnings on the original tell you to rinse surface off after use if it will be used with food- so that means one of two things, some type of chemical involved, or microplastic type stuff left behind.
Bro the flowerhorn attacking u at the end made my day. Thanks for the vid. I personally use the kitchen micro fibre towels and glass cleaning sponges. But to get out the super green and hard to remove algae i think u need scraper...
Here in the UK, I use a small pan scrubby which has a more abrasive side like your shower scrubber thing but also has a soft sponge side too - never causes a problem with damage to the silicone seams or scratching but gets algae off the glass easily and safely - Obviously it wasn't one that has any additional cleaning products and it was bought new so I was happy it was safe to use in the tank.
Those white sponges work excellent. Also a long razor scraper for the area where the sand meets the glass. That's the tough part for getting scratches.
I use those foam pot scrubbers from Walmart or Canadian Tire. They are fantastic! They are soft and gentle with just enough umph for the tough spots. I toss them in my washing machine once I'm done. Works great on salt buildup as well.
For that really strong short green algae in fresh water, if it's been neglected I've found a razor blade on with a handle works the best so far for me, I also use the plastic card on easier to get off stuff. (Glass aquariums)
I use a dishwashing scrubber. The cheap one from the grocery store with a hollow handle you're supposed to put soap in. It's like your shower scrubber but for smaller tanks.
@thekingofdiy Depending on what/who is in the tank I use Plecos. Bristlenoses for up to Discus, Sailfin (and multiples of) for larger more aggressive Cichlids. Never had to clean algae off glass for over 30 years, also don't have much algae anyway.
I use baby platy fish, snails, java ferns, and pothos plants. Plus keeping the tank only lightly stocked (by not feeding them too much). I haven't had to scrub the glass in years and it is clean as can be. The baby platy's (fry) are so small and omnivorous that they eat the smallest of algae, coupled with the snails and all algea is always eaten.
Thank you!!! I have glass curved aquarium and it WAS nightmare to clean, magnet just don't work. So i was cleaning with razor, it was really slow and i need to be careful around silicone. And i use magic eraser, which I am using for car interior and it was like magic! Clean everything and i mean everything, silicone, glass, hoses and even artificial background and when it was too dirty i just clean in the separated bucket. Thanks you again!
I have used a razor blade with handle and a plain sponge with a abrasive pad on the otherside no chemical.. most everyone else uses these sponges for washing dishes. But there great for my tropical tanks.
I use a Razer blade for tough stuff then a magnet with a patch of cloth on both sides of the magnet. Additionally, on the cloth on the outside, I add fritz's. Has always worked like a charm for me.
That made me miss my flowerhorn (now passed away). Ironically, never bit me. Only bit the algae scrubber. Oh and IMO I never use magnets. Some how sand always gets in there and I can't feel or sense if there is dirt or sand in it and that causes lots of unintended horrific scratches. I only use shower scrubbers (algae scrubbers) or plastic cards.
I use a normal dish scrubber thing on my glass tanks, the softer side for just that green algae and a card, an old nike store gift card one for spot/beard algae
Tunze care magnets were a gamechanger for me. They work with a magnet but they use two scraper attachments instead of a pad. There is no chance of picking up a sand particle and scratching your glass or acrylic.
I never clean my windows! I have 4 aquariums with bristlenose plecos for more than 10 years. They keep my windows clean and also are very fond of zuchini (they also eat food tablets). Also very peaceful fish. If you don’t want to clean your windows (and wood) consider these little fellows (do not put your aquarium in the sun and do not buy their brothers who can become huge. The good ones are called ancistrus max 8-10 cm and not plectostomus by their latin name. I remember I had one temporary aquarium for plants without my ancistrusses, and indeed al lot of algae on the glass…
They are really helpful thank you! I got suckered into the “ magic aquarium cleaner sponge” aka magic eraser at 15x the price 🙄 as always love your videos and looking forward to seeing the completed 16ft tank 😊
Are those magic erasers called magic sponges? I'm in Europe, so not sure if we're talking about the same sponge :) In Poland we've used a common shaving razor on some kind of a handle for decades. Now they dont even sell these handles.. Of course it would scratch the acrylic, but glass is fine.
I epoxied some green scratcher pad material to a stainless plate, with a handle set at about 15º ... takes 5 minutes once a week for a ten gallon tank ... plus the fish like playing with it ... hands stay dry ...
Hi. I need HELP PLEASE!! where do you start with a planted aquarium? What plants to get for beginners. Do's dont's? PLEASE HELP. i want to start a tank with plants, but have no idee how to, or where to start. I trust your advice above all other. Thanks again for 14 years of great work.
Hey bro, I have a problem..I keep my asian super red arowana in a 5ft by 2ft by 2ft tank..He's around 1 year old now and good size as well..I'm using a soft tanning light and a HPled light but so far no success in getting his colour out even though the tank gets full of algae..So it means the lights are pretty strong right but how can I get this guy's colour up to his full potential..Any advise on how to tan an aro in a normal big tank?Just have a couple of bichirs in there with him.
Hey!! That’s where all my dish cloths went 😆 😭
That’s to funny, I used to get in trouble for using dish clothes on my tanks
Sharing is caring 😍

That was hilarious 🤣🤣 chasing him like that.
I use tule (the stuff used to make bridal veils) from the fabric store, its simple, does not scratch glass or acrylic, it is cheap, lasts for years and the best thing I have ever found to removed algae from tank glass.
glass scraper for stubborn residue works great

I use filter floss. Also works perfect

i use the same and swear by them
I use the same on both my fresh and saltwater tanks they work

I love that Flowerhorn!!!

🤔 I literally have an email from Mr. Clean magic eraser where they said NOT TO USE that to clean tanks since the product leaves behind particles.
I used to spend ages doing it with a magnet but I just scrunch up a lil bit of filter wool now. Way quicker and less worried about scratching it.
I just used a magnet and it does great. But I've also used a Bounty paper towel before I got the magnet. It also helps get the algae off of leaves.
Thank you!!! I have glass curved aquarium and it WAS nightmare to clean, magnet just don't work. So i was cleaning with razor, it was really slow and i need to be careful around silicone. great video i use a new stanley blade which seems great in removing all algae
Amazing video 🙌🏾
Nice! Great video as always.

I use them as well.
It's impossible to scratch your tank when using it correctly.
Don't know why so many people don't know about them
Magic eraser makes single sheets which work really well by hand or you can place them on the inside of a magnetic scraper.
I've used a oblong-type razor blade in the past... You have to be super careful around the silicon seals though!
I use a simple straight edge razor in a holder each time I do a water change.
have had much luck using a razor blade , usually a dollar store sells them are wallpaper removers.
But also my old blockbuster card works
I use a plastic razor blade and it works really well
The yellow and green dish sponges from Amazon. Like 30 cents each
I’ve used a razor blade purchased at the fish store
Thanks.. I use kind of net
I use the tunze magnetic scraper with a blade on the end
I never clean my windows! I have 4 aquariums with bristlenose plecos for more than 10 years. They keep my windows clean and also are very fond of zuchini (they also eat food tablets). I use bio foam similar to my filter foam but if the algae is too hard to remove like the green one I use blade..
I use a pot washing sponge always use a new one that has never been used on anything else fresh out the packet
I use Scotch Brite pads.
japanese nylon scrubbing washcloth or exfoliating washcloth...Magic eraser is the most awesome so far though...
For my 10 gallon beta tank I always just use a toothbrush! And then for my 60 gallon, a sponge
They are really helpful thank you! I got suckered into the “ magic aquarium cleaner sponge” aka magic eraser at 15x the price 🙄 as always love your videos and looking forward to seeing the completed 16ft tank 😊
I use my wife’s toothbrush. Works great but she always complains of a salty taste and thinks our toothpaste has gone bad.
Ha Ha Ha, love it!!!!!😂😅😅😂😂❤
I've always used a scrub brush purchased from the pet store
Filter wool, works best for my fresh water tanks.

Use scrapper, there is a scrapper with long stick special for cleaning aquarium so you don’t need to stick your hand into the water.
What version of the magic eraser do you use?
My first thought was a magic eraser but i thought it might be toxic. Good to know it's safe@
Some magic erasers have abrasive in them and I think you could actually scratch acrylic.
I use the old razor blade on a stick and it works perfectly
very educational
what do you do for your Piranha tank?. i have 12 and that magenta sux? i might need to buy a better 1?? i dont wanna put my hand in the tank lol
magic eraser is basically fine sandpaper do not use if you dont want scratches on acrylic
Snails is for me the best..hahahhaahh
A blade it a lot easier, does a quick nice job just need to be careful
exfoliating gloves are perfect for smaller areas. or scrub daddy or mummy lol
I always take a dissponse. By us there are no stuff to clean on it.😊
Scrub daddy works best for me!!! Make sure to get a brand new one though.

For the magic eraser do you use the ones without the duro foam
