Welcome back to another episode of That Cost How Much?! The series where we try DIYing expensive decor that we see at some of our fav stores. We decided to tackle an especially over priced item, and that item is plant stands. Although we love the way they look, why should we have to break the bank?? These are all super simple and we'd love to see you recreate them. Let us know what stores or items you'd like to see us try next time in the comments below!

Pottery Barn: *Overcharges on simple design elements*
Sorry Girls: HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TEACH YOU THIS LESSON OLD MAN
actually, the Pottery Barn thing is made out of meta and looks way better. So it's kinda like those chinese website : you get what you pay for
Katell Giraud it might look a little better but there is no plant stand worth over 200$! That is just ridiculous.
@@katellgiraud9779 You could stain & paint it with a metallic shinny finish. Also create the pot by mixing gold & silver paint. Then a touch of black a couple coats.. You'll have that finish!
There is a metal spray that makes something look galvanized so it would look even closer to the pot. And the wood just needed more coats.
@@katellgiraud9779 We need to get rid of China.
that last one is SPOT ON. great job! and it's so easy 😱
or at least they make it look easy! 😅
MeadhbhNi you can usually rent power tools from a home improvement store! or borrow them from friends or family or ask for them for a gift for a holiday!
@@sarahwenger4479 ur right they have all kinds of rent-all places here in Omaha, you can rent any damn thing. Anything. Also the pawn shops have all kinds of tools.
Totally agree, apple. No.3 is the best one
Love it!💕💞
Becky’s second diy is spot on!! Great job to you too Kelsey! 😍
Hi!!! you should do DIY swimsuit cover-ups!!!!! either a fashion thrift flip or even for a "that cost how much?" because they are always so expensive and it's so little material!
Yes this is an awesome idea and I agree! ♡
Yes!
"That cost how muuuuuuch" I lvoe this series so much 😂😂
Lena Lou I actually read love not relizing it was misspelled 😅
I wish for Becky’s 2nd DIY, we had seen a visual on the final product of what exactly was being measured. It may have just been me but I was teensy bit confused for a hot minute. Good job to y’all! Love y’all and this series!!!
You guys should do one from this series but with no electric/power tools! 😜
Jana Gilbert I believe their ‘college try’ series has no power tools. I don’t think there is many episodes though
The Sorry Girls basically made me buy an new power drill and a sander :D I never thought I would need these, but they make life so much easier for me now.
You can get affordable and compact power tools now.
Anu you can, but the work space? Not so much. Also a circular saw?? Why would I need that on the regular? After I got all these tools to do the last diy, I would have been better off just spending the $70.
@@anuvedantham7689 oh I'm not looking to get power tools of any kind. I want to see them do it as a challenge 😂
Tip for people who don't want to buy the whole stain-jar for smaller projects: You can use acrylic paint, just mix it with water and you are ready to go!
I was going to suggest the same thing. A small 4 oz bottle of acrylic craft paint is 79 cents at Michael's (at least here in the US it is, probably more in Canada) and you won't even use half of it because you dilute it with a lot of water to get the stain effect. The craft paint comes in a lot more colors than wood stain, too. So you can shave $8 off those DIYs.
Whats the water to paint ratio? Or what should the consistency look like if theres no set ratio
@@blairedarling7171 it should be runny like water but tinted, the more you use paint the deeper the outcome will be. For example you could use 2dl water, and the same amount of paint when you use toothpaste when brushing teeth. Remember to stir it really well, and try it a small amount first. If the outcome is too deep, add water or dry the wood immediately after staining. You can add layers too.
@@blairedarling7171 It should look thin and watery, like a watered down fruit juice. I would start with like 1 part paint and 3 parts water. Do a test on some scrap wood and let it dry. Then adjust if you want it more sheer or more opaque. Make sure to stir it well before using because the pigments will sink to the bottom. Paint it on and then immediately rub off the excess with a clean cloth.
Had anyone tried using shoe polish instead of stain? That might work well, too, so long as you put it on in light coats until you get to the shade you want. (Yeah, I'm a "pretty far outside the box" thinker sometimes.) 🤓
Could you do some diy outdoor furniture? Love you guys!💕
BrileyAnn ⬆️ what she said!!
In the meantime, until theSorry Girls pick this up, I totally recommend checking out Ana White's channel and website. She got me into woodworking and has so many great and accessible plans for (outdoor) furniture! My first build was an Adirondack chair for 30 bucks! Have fun :)
@@tvstudentNL Thanks for the suggestion! 💖👛
I thought you said dirty
Here is a little tip! I’m no construction/power tool person but for the bucket stand (2nd DIY) you could carve out slots in the frame as there are little blocks sticking out where the handle was attached to. This would not only make it look better but it would also make it look like it was made like that and not a DIY. And at my local hardware and paint store they have this galvanised spray paint so I could get that worn and aged look. These hacks made it turn out super awesome when I did this DIY!! Totally recommend them! 😃
I thnk the basket stand would have been even better if you had spent 2 more bucks and finished the bottoms of the dowels with the copper caps as well. ❤
I actually thought the same thing! But I guess they wanted to stay low as possible.
The string thing to measure is so smart! Ugh your MIND
I can't believe how expensive those plant stands are! I bought a couple of them from my local TJmax, only paid $20 for a big plant on the floor and $6 for a table stand.
Yanan Yue I love TJMaxx! I get all my plant pots & plant stands from there too. A big floor one for $10!
Great!! I’m gonna have to go there cuz I don’t have the tools, space or patience for this. Especially the last one.
Workers, taxes, profit ??!!
I just want to say thank you! We lost everything, home, neighborhood, town, surrounding communities in the Camp fire of 11/08/2018. We're just now getting close to being back "home". Same town, different lot and home. We won't have money to fill it with stuff (not that I'd ever pay the prices for the originals here!) and this is just so awesome. It's doable for me, ability and cost wise both. thank you so much for giving me these how to's!
Love you both. I am glad marriage and moving have not created any changes in your fantastic relationship and your shared success.
Kelly Rainey they’re married ? To each other ?
GIGI HADID no, Becky is married, and Kelsey recently moved.
Daniela G. Oh thank you
I'm not crying you're crying
What I love about these videos is that you don't usually make it EXACTLY like the original item. It always seems to turn out with just the vibe of the original. What I also love about the ones you guys make is they are so customizable for so cheap. You guys always make items that are just as cute if not cuter because you made it yourself. Love these videos!
I'd LOVE to see more fashion "that cost how muuuuuch" episodes! One on Irregular Choice shoes would be super fun.
That's a cute idea but I'm pretty sure that's impossible haha
Sylvia Sellers aren’t a lot of the more intricate irregular choice shoes handmade?
I love how you guys include the total cost of all the items that were required for all these diys. Spray cans are so useful and can be used for many more projects. But it’s soo helpful when you’re starting out and you have absolutely nothing. It’s a level of transparency I really appreciate as an audience member, and I appreciate that that time and effort was put into giving a clearer idea of the costs. Thank you ♥️
For any Aussies, you can buy an exact dupe for the first basket planter from Anthropology at Kmart for $19. So cute! Btw, great work girls!
Rachel J hahah thanks
Off to Kmart now 😂
There is also a super similar one to the last plant stand at Kmart too for $15! Just the legs are a little taller (could always saw them down if need be).
@@sheydingorry3104 They have smaller ones for $10 at the Kmart near me
kmart and target have the nicest plant stands honestly
I love that you guys read comments and now advice how much the prices for the existing items you already have!! Yay growing old tgt guys!!
when both sides on the thumbnail look so good that you don’t know which is the expensive one
Becky, I love the second plant stand! Great job! Just a quick tip, if you want to stain pine without blotches, use a wood conditioner first. Pine is really hard to stain and the wood conditioner will prepare it for staining.
This is definitely my favorite series that y'all do💜💜
Plant stands are extremely affordable at Marshalls, TJ maxx and Home Goods. They always have a bunch that look exactly like the West Elm one and come with pots and sometimes even faux plants too!
*"It's not Barley! It's an idea!"*
New shirt that I'm here for.
I loved each one this episode! For Kelsey's diy, if you spray painted both the frame and bucket with a hammered metal spray paint it would look more like that galvanized metal! They make awesome paint textures. Great video!
*Little hi ^^*
I love this series. I often analyse overexpensive items to figure out how it was made and your videos prove that *I’m not the only one*
Loved all 3 projects, but the last one was IDENTICAL!! Good job!
Becky! The last plant stand you did was super cute but could also have been reversable! Do you remember the fish bowl-like planter you guys did a TCHM a while ago? If you'd have measured the curved underside of this project with a glass plant bowl you could have flipped it if you didn't want the plant pot 😮
All were very cute though 😊 will be trying when I move house ❤
okay the plate idea was so ingenious, I actually ended up creating something similar but into a nightstand! I have been trying to find a really small nightstand for over a year now and finally ended up making one because of this video! Thank you
Before watching, I looked at the thumbnail and tried to guess which ones I thought were the original ones.
Turns out my guesses were actually the DIYs. They look better in my opinion! Great job girls!
You guys should do more environmentally friendly diys!! I LOVE the last two eco diys you did!
*eco diy videos I mean
Nailed that planter, Becky!!! I love you guys, you both rock!
I love all three! I have a ton of plants around the house and pots are always so outrageously priced!
Thank you for the DIYs!💗
The last plant stand is amazingly close, but these are all good options to at least get the look. Thank you!
Great job girls. I wouldn't have counted the stain in the cost. Because you'll have it for many more projects. Fun to watch. Thanks
Phyllis Marony yeah but a lot of times in the past when they didn’t count supplies they already had on hand, people were mad so.....there’s no winning either way
Plant stands are my current obsession so I'm very thankful for this video 😅
Hi Becky and Kelsey! I really like the DIY plant stands. All 3 turned out really nice. I really like the curved bowl in the 1st plant stand Becky did. Much better than a flat board. Genius! Thank you for such cost effective ideas!
I love this series so much!Next for this series can you guys do mid century modern decor/furniture?
kelsey PLEASE make a video about how you style your bangs!! mine are very similar to yours but i have no idea how to style them and would love to have them look as nice as yours💕
I was literally going to request you for this diy I swear can’t believe btw love you girls
Great job ladies. Looking for plant DIY’s to do myself and you guys have inspired me.
My husband doesn’t know but he’ll be making this soon 😂 I’m not good with measuring tape.
LMFAO fiance is looking at me not realizing he's gonna make these
Loved your projects!!! I have been looking for a tall pot holder for my Christmas Cactus and you nailed it.. now I'm making it tomorrow... THANKYOU !!
OMG! I requested this on IG! Probably a coincidence as it was only a few days ago but YAY!!! 🥰🙌🏻😁
Love it! You make it look so easy - and fabulous. You’re quite an inspirational team, ladies. 👏🏽
Kelsey saying *that cost how muchhhhh* is the cutest thing ever...
Crafty You Tuber I thought that's where their name came from.. Sorry that's how much?!!
That short white pot stand turned out amazing!
becky this is your best hair color! looks so good
Omg the small pot at the end was spot on!!!
i was literally binge watching every episode yesterday
Becky your 2nd pot was absolutely amazing
Becky: 2/2! -- I prefer her floor stand over the retail version 😮
I would not be able to tell which is which on the last one. Awesome work!
Whoop whoop!! I'm early for once. Im totally a fake plant mom. Can't keep a plant alive for long lol. These are super cute though and look alot like the original. Much love to yall and the team💜💜
All of your DIYs looked better than the originals, in my opinion! You just can't beat the handmade touch. I think the only thing I might've done differently, is use a gloss finish paint for the faux metal stand to make the wood look more convincing as metal. Awesome job!!
Really great quality on these DIYs!!! Becky did a great job!!
you might have explained this but why do you use the imperial system for measurements and not the metric system. It is just so much more exact and the overwhelming majority of the world uses it (including the country you’re from).
I’m curious about this too!
How are centimetres more exact than fractions of an inch? I'm used to the metric system, so it's weird to me, but pretty easy to convert. As to why, I guess they're just used to it. Uk and Canada use a mix of imperial and metric system, usually it's metric in official, and imperial in colloquial contexts.
I'd love to see a video where you share what tools you think are most valuable for a beginning DIYer looking to start their own tool kit
Love these videos! Perfect for a trendy girl on a budget!
Are you wearing the pajama shirt from the Target 2-piece set?? That shirt is so comfy!!
This one really got me thinking of new idea's for my plant babies. Allways fun with you girls! X
DIY queens 👸 love it!!!
Really appreciate the aesthetic, and the Plant hacks you all work so hard to share in the most tasteful way! Thank you so much from all of the Plant Mums! 😂❤
Omg mooore plant vids!!!🤩🤩
These plant stands are awesome!!
It’s absolutely ridiculous how much some of those cost!
Absolutely love the first one with the accent of copper!
I saw the title and clicked so fast! Frick yeah this is what I’m about
I’m blown away! Gorgeous dupes! Sadly for me, I don’t have power tools - mainly because I don’t know how to use them. Still, watching this was inspiring.
You can buy literally the EXACT plant stand in the first diy from anthro in Australia at Kmart (which is like Target) For $19AUS which is like $12US. WILD.
Sophie Hawkshaw we have Kmart in the states
@@autumnnelson1809 They're actually owned by different companies and totally seperate so I'm not sure is US Kmart is similar!
Awesome new ideas.. for someone like us who loves plants mostly putting them indoor
"it ain't barley, its an idea!""
They make galvanized-look grey spray paint if you wanted to make that bucket look exactly like the Pottery Barn one. Great job on all 3 projects!!
I was at store looking for plant stands like 15 minutes ago and was gagged by the prices!
You both did an amazing job! I love this series! *Would you consider doing a diy plant shelf for tiny ledge windowsill indoors, but want the space to put plants? Something permanent for homes, and also maybe something apartment friendly/free standing-no nails in wall?
* It makes me want to learn carpentry as a hobby when I have no idea where to start.
Becky your diy choices and results are amazing.
They all looked really good but my fav was the last short one
I love this! Have not bought planter stands (because the prices are outrageous) and been using my old stool to put them on. Definitely gonna do some diy projects now.
I have gotten a lot of great DIY ideas from you two. I'm glad you aren't stuck on Farmhouse de'cor! I like traditional and I'd love to see you do something Southwest! It's something a little different and haven't seen for years. Thanks for all the great ideas!!
The west elm one turned out so well!
Loved this! The last one was my favorite! Definitely going to make that for my dining table center piece! Thanks ladies!
Cyndie saying hi! What a great job. All were really good, but Becky, the West Elm piece is spectacular! Excellent! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
They're all so good but the last one is pretty much perfect!
Love seeing stuff like this. I love remaking things for cheaper and it cool to see some inspiration!
The second pot...you guys nailed it!
Absolutely Amazing!!!! You girls are so talented. Thank you for showing.
You know, I think I prefer your version for the last one way more than the West Elm on. I love how the square base of the pot brings in the sharp lines on the pot to mirror the sharp lines of the wood edges!
This is my absolute favourite series!! You ladies nailed it this time! These videos make me love trolling through online stores to see what I can make for hella cheap. Loved it!
I love the basket y’all used versus the expensive one.
I can make these with Dollar Tree items. I don’t own a saw or any power tools. I loved all of these especially the basket one! Definitely going to make it.
I will make #1 tomorrow. 2 and 3 and advanced projects for me. Maybe next year. Thanks girls, you rock!
Wow!! That last one was spot on!!!
That last planter was spot on identical. Great work on all of them.
Could you do a video on all of your tools/ your favorite/most frequently used tools? 💕💕 I love this series!
Would never pay the retail price on any of the originals! LOVE all 3 of your versions better, even down to the succulent you chose. I also love that you would never have to deal with the rusting of the wrought iron with your bucket planter.
I love how expensive these inexpensive DIYs look! Also the jams in the background, vibess
You are blessed to have each other, inspiring and supporting each other. Nowadays, it is very rare to find a REAL FRIEND like that! Congratulations to both of you for all your creative work.
The last one was spot on! Great job ladies!👍🏻💪🏻👌✊🏽👧 power!
That West Elm pot came out SO cute!
This is my favorite RUclips series Everrrr!!!! I’m so excited there’s this new one
I did similar with a broken bird bath stand and a hanging pot basket.... fit perfectly grew basil in it for years flowers do well in it too. bird bath frame was some kind of metal
