what way do you play beta? My game crashes when i add different fixes to the game like skinfix...
I use a OptiFine instance in MultiMC, then the Betacraft proxy in java arguments for the fixes.

i think putting fences under farmed dirt, ive heard that worked back then
Like @gumshake689 said, in older versions fences under farmland stopped you or mobs from trampling it
