Nice to see another southern hemisphere review. I've had mine for almost 6 months (in Oz). A few little things for people watching this. In warmer climates like Oz/NZ, you get an honest 250km range out of the little beast. Now you would rarely use all the battery, so you will be charging between 200-230km so you leave a little in reserve.
It is also a *lot* faster than the quoted 7.3s 0-100. As tested in the US, the SE is the fastest of all Cooper S models (6.0s 0-60mph and 14.7s 1/4 mile), and faster 0-60kph (ie city warrior) than the JCW. Depending on how you measure acceleration (US use 1ft rollout), the 0-100 is either 6.3 or 6.5s. 0-60kph is only 3s flat (not the 3.9 quoted). It really is that quick.
At least in Oz, you can drive without the seatbelt, however it beeps and squawks at you till you put it on. I regularly shuffle our cars in the garage without my seatbelt. The head up display is one of the best things once you get used to it. It is just in your line of sight, so you can see your speed/directions etc without looking down. As it is down low, it doesn't distract from the view in front, and I believe they went the pop up way because it can still be seen in strong sunlight (unlike a projected screen).
Lastly, even though they are a little heavier, the weight distribution is better and the centre of gravity lower, so they actually handle as well, if not better than the S. The JCW has better suspension, and the GP is just a rocket. I am 100% completely happy with mine - it is a city warrior and a real blast to drive.
I really enjoyed your review - keep up the good work!

Don’t worry about yourself, volume should always be up/down as in “turn it up” not “turn it right.” I have an order in on this car in the states. I was thinking I would end up in a Leaf or the new Mazda Mx-30, but this chip shortage is still going on so I might end up in the Mini.

I almost never drive far and I have easy access to charging so this car would be perfect for me down here in Florida. Nitpicking wise, only things I don’t like is the pedestrian warning humming noise, the seatbelt safety check, and although I don’t need it, range certainly leaves more to be desired. But overall nice car I hope the 2022 version is even better. Also good review thanks for making.
