Not bad guys! Few things the US version needs to borrow still: 1. Studio audience - not canned, normal humans, close to the stage (so it feels warmer and like we're part of the show) 2. Silly-non political news mixed in sharing crazy stories we might have missed 3. More adlibbing, less scripted (RW Jr is brilliant, let him do his thing. Each of the times he made his own punchlines were funnier than the script) Most important: 4. Bring in some witty, fun, non-comedian figures into the mix. Part of the genius of UK HIGNFY is that you're educated as much as you're entertained, and the occasion splice of reality mixed with levity is the spark that brings it together.

Glad to see Hat Trick in the channel description... hopefully they will go just as hard as I remember & not make the guests pull their punches. (Although, I think it's harder for anyone to win a slander suit here in the US than it is in the UK.) Now, if only we could get a US Mock the Week...

Subscribed -- A solid first try! Without trying to just emulate the UK version, there are certainly lessons to be glean from it. The pacing is a little off, I think in part due to the "clapter" (laughter + clapping) that has become ingrained in US late night. I also felt the panellist were trying to lift each other up with very large reactions and so on. HIGNFY strike a sort of "lying in wait" attitude from its panellists, who frame the absurdity with a somewhat gentle wit. Some of this stuff is cultural, of course, but there are things they can control from a production POV: Coach the panellists to remember that 'the comedy is king'; make sure that the panellists are 'edit conscious' (reduce the cross-talk and self-laughter); and maybe have a smaller audience

And though I've always professed that Americans are just not as funny as Brits (Jerry Lewis, really?), I must confess, Roy Wood Jr can change all that for me - he's just got to loosen up a bit. Great show! Keep it up. Also, you need a Paul Merton (Martin) on one side and I think you have a Ian Hislop with Amber Ruffin, but she's got to be edgier. It's OK to swear. Roy as host and Amber and Michael as captains - you really pulled out all the stops in hiring the right people for the show. Delighted to see Roy and Amber getting the airtime they deserved since their previous shows.
Honestly, this show exceeds my expectations for a HIGNFY for the US. They take the Britishness that they can apply well and keep it American in a way that is natural and comfortable for the tone of US comedy. Plus, Roy is always a treat.

Roy as host and Amber and Michael as captains - you really pulled out all the stops in hiring the right people for the show. Delighted to see Roy and Amber getting the airtime they deserved since their previous shows.

Honestly, this show exceeds my expectations for a HIGNFY for the US. They take the Britishness that they can apply well and keep it American in a way that is natural and comfortable for the tone of US comedy. Plus, Roy is always a treat.

I believe it was "Motherfucka" with an "a". She was very explicit about the ending having an "A" when asked about her favorite swear word.
