Ehh usually the half life puzzles are pretty easy to solve. I think this puzzle is a unexpected one. When I played it I was thinking much so I was just pushing the button and then started going into beta thinking and thought about put the barrel there for connection. It’s seemed a little obvious why they would put a barrel in the area for me. I’d say the the hardest bits in the complete half life franchise is when in half life 1 you’re on rails and you literally have to shoot the signs to turn, that was the hardest puzzle in the whole half life series to me and had to search it up. Also when you first come and discover the outside area in half life 1 I was confused when you going inside the bunker thing. That part had so many tunnel entrances it was the most off linear part of the series to me. With multiple routes to go around. Half life 2 on the other hand was just very simple.
No way.... they made...the BARREL. Which is a side object, the main solution to the puzzle? They made the BARREL CONNECT THE BROKEN POWER STRIPS JUST BY PUTTING IT THERE? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
I did. I usually play games at an alpha state with my mind at ease but it took me two minutes of real thinking running around the facility when I saw the barrel. Barrel looked symbolic to something. Wasn’t THAT hard honestly
@@amero3577 well i was stuck and annoyed because 1) the barrel couldnt be used as a platform to just jump across the coolant pool, they could have at least added something to block it to visually indicate it cant be used there. 2) you couldnt use other explosives to proc the explosives on the wall. this is one of the rare times I look something up for a game and I feel like it was a bit of moon logic. i could have figured it out but I didn't wanna spend any longer running around wondering if my game was bugged and I wasnt able to interact with something or not

This is honestly the shittiest add-on to original HL, much darker than other campaigns (as if "can barely see dark as shit"), fucking headcrab overdose, uninspired campaign (as you can see in level design and riddles), also really short, but that probably is the result of my former points. Valve really shat the bed with this one
Thank God I’m not the only one... the barrel wasn’t so bad (because the wire was sparking, the barrel was metal... was still mindblown when the plunger actually fired) but fuck that control there. The obvious thing to do here was jump down again, they should’ve made something in the line of sight on the other side to at least let you know you’d wanna get across that bridge in a higher position.
You guys won't believe what I did. I passed to the other side of that chemical water without exploding the door first, because I simply didn't knew how. Wich means, yes, I swimed in it untill I reached that barrel and jumped to the bridge. It took a long time to get right and the damage left me with 10 HP. I knew it was probably not the right way, but since it worked, I continued... But then, I turned the machines on, came back to the bridge, and there was no way to swim again with the low HP. And the worst thing? I quicksaved. EDIT: I had to use the god cheat to pass it, but I reestarted to before turning the machines on and did everything right.
I managed to bunny jump over to a barrel but couldn't do it again when coming back. Then I noticed that you can actually move the barrels that are floating if you jump and hold use button same time and use them as a boat.
Tech Early Adopter I was so fucking pissed at this level playing it today in 2020, I can’t imagine the frustration of folks playing it back in ‘99 with no real guides yet! Goes to show how unintuitive it was, if people were having to fuck with physics bugs to make it through.
blue shift is so good up until the xen part with a bunch of split-path vent crawling, and then THIS right after what the fuck happened? did the lead map designer get fired? the game was flowing so much better than the original half life until that point
Funny how minds can work. I was able to figure out the barrel in a a minute or two. What I came here for is somehow assuming that the loading screen at 10:15 meant that there was nothing left to do in that previous area. I didn't even think to check just to be sure.
Am I the only one who solved the barrel puzzle on their first playthrough by thinking that the barrel is made of metal so it could in theory transfer electrons? Instead I got stuck after turning on the power and not knowing where to go lol.
I can’t complete the game cause after putting the barrel where they’re supposed to be, the elevator won’t go up due to some weird shitty glitch. I’m starting to hate this game.
This happened now to me, elevator goes 2m up and then back down, idk what to do next EDIT: u have to destroy dead body of head crab, i havent seen him in the dark first

Yeah, I couldn't figure this stupid solution out so I used the c4 jump to go across the coolant lake and got softlocked. Had to noclip the whole puzzle because when I tried to spin the valve it would't do it cause I turned the generator on before completing the puzzle. Definitely a big brain moment ,softlocked/10.
I saw the explosives on the door and immediately shot it with the rocket launcher. Thought itd look cool but it didnt work. I then put the c4 but it STILL didnt work. I then tried to put the metal barrel in the coolant and got infuriated when it wouldnt go in. I then found this vid... thanks btw
Tengo un problema UN GRAN PROBLEMA No hice lo del barril lo omiti como oh vaya no se puede detonar esta puerta entonces en lugar donde falta la mitad del puente doy un salto con la Granada del fusil tipo soldier del tf2 ahora tengo poca vida y no tengo idea de cómo regresar para detonar la puerta y hacer lo que falta
El juego te hace guardados automáticos, Solo carga uno que esté antes de que hiciste el rocket jump. Yo estaba atorado y hice lo mismo xDDD increiblemente funciona. Es algo mucho mas razonable que usar en estúpido barril sin sentido...

I know that I needed something metal to get the current connected but for some reason I didn’t think to use the metal barrel just didn’t put it together

Well it makes sense, the fuse is an electrical fuse and the barrel is metal, so the fuse will go touch the barrel and go through it.

I almost got it first try, but I pushed the barrel trying to hop on it, couldnt get it from the wall and dropped the idea.
Wouldve been more obvious if they had used one of those metal crates or something, because those are usually used for puzzles

You can get the old weapons by disabling "Use HD models" or something like that in the Options.

I think he has custom models. You can find them anywhere online, just search "hl/cs1.6 custom weapon model" and you'll find plenty.
