    TL;DR:
The concept of personal serenity in the face of insecurities and challenges, emphasizes the importance of internal growth and self-integration in achieving a balanced existence amidst external pressures.
    Key Takeaways:
    - The individual's ability to live well is tied to internal growth and self-integration.
    - Insecurities stem from individual doubts and attitudes, creating a chain reaction affecting others.
    - The focus should be understanding and accepting internal values, not demanding them from external sources.
    - Living serenely depends on an individual's attitude and utilization of personal resources.
    - Acknowledging divine law, love, and wisdom is essential for overcoming doubts and fears.

Thank you for hosting the works of Manly P. Hall ad-free. I feel he would have wanted it this way. He gave of his ability in service to humanity asking nothing in return. It only makes good sense to carry it forward freely.

@@ManlyHallSociety an ad at the end would be what he would do now maybe? It’s not enforced at least. But no ads at all is what I would do too since it’s his work. Feels not right to ad ads. But yeah, really a lot of thank for uploading and taking time into it, so everyone with access to internet could find it. Thanks Manly and others, thanks to everyone who helps others heal and learn and finally piece by piece make this place what’s a pretty great place to begin with, a better one. It says this lecture originates from 29 June 1958. Many of us consider these times 'the good old days' when life was more simple, people were somehow kinder and technology had not created the stressful, fast paced life that we experience today.
Yet we listen to this lecture and it could have been given yesterday.
    How perception is so illusory.
'The present is so difficult and the past was so much better' would seem to be a constant belief.

    • @ManlyHallSociety

Mr. Hall's insights are just as relevant today, perhaps even more so. That is the main force behind the Manly Hall Society - to make sure his words and works are available to all who seek them.

But you're right that every generation is nostalgic for the past sometimes incorrectly or in the case of the present correctly.

1:35 we've depended so heavily for security upon the institutions we've created that we've forgotten to grow
2:15 we have a need for values within ourselves
2:31 we should strengthen, develop and enrich phases of our own natures
4:09 insecurity is ourselves (it exists within our own natures)
6:08 the way to live well in the world is to understand it as thoroughly as we can
6:18 out of understanding comes acceptance
6:34 when we undertsand and accept, we won't be disturbed
6:41 when we demand or expect from people or situations values or things that aren't reasonable, we will be in trouble, losing our peace
8:15 the worrier, jealous person, and gossiper cause insecurity in others
9:15 insecurity arises from or reflects our doubts about Providence (God)
9:39 serenity is a matter of attitude
9:55 suspicion and criticism we have to get rid of, to reach serenity
11:00 a lot of people live in shadows of the past, unable to overcome or let go of old antagonisms, opinions, prejudices, intolerances
11:34 to non-serene people, the future is always doubtful (in their minds)
12:08 we have created censorships within our mental and emotional natures
12:31 we view the world and situations, and interpret them with ignorance (with our attitudes and prejudices)
13:32 most of us are unable to register facts, accept them, and live according to them (instead, we interpret them through our prejudices)
14:12 instead of simply accepting events, we distort them through our perception
14:27 we (pessimists) think the future is going to be just like our miserable pasts, and so we lock ourselves
14:37 pessimists interpret experiences as problems, and challenges as catastrophes
15:24 Zen concept says to decide whether the individual will be alive or if the problem will be alive
15:33 where is the center of consciousness going to be? In the center of us? Or drowned in the problem?
15:46 if consciousness is in the center of us (as opposed to in the center of the problem), we can control any difficulty
16:17 NOW (the present) is the only moment that is under our control
18:50 in Zen, the goal is to preserve and live in eternal immediacy (the present)
19:34 people who tie themselves to the past or to the future are lost
19:52 the use of NOW determines all things
20:44 NOW we can accept the burden of our lives with complete privilege of decision
20:55 NOW we can face facts without burdening them with our old fears or morbid anticipations
21:19 we shift immediately to thinking about the future or the past, simply to evade responsibility of decision
21:31 the lack of serenity is due in part to man's continuous effort to evade the need for immediate decision.
21:44 By being afraid to face a fact, we set in motion patterns of evasion

Cast all your cares upon the Lord and judge not because we truly cannot know the why of human nature. All I can do is dismiss myself from people or situations that are not in harmony with me and my truth. Therefore I let go of it and let the Lord take care of it without myself trying to control it which will go against the law of God. ❤

42:27 How can we achieve a serenity of consciousness without negation? We talk to people about these problems and they say well we are supposed to overlook alot aren't we? No we are not. We are not supposed to overlook anything. We are supposed to understand through things. To close our minds to a value or to a problem is not to solve it. Solution lies always in one thing, total understanding. The individual who simply closes his eyes to trouble and says it isn't there is not solving anything but the individual who thoroughly understands the situation discovers that it is not trouble, it is something else which previously he did not know. The end therfore of the search for serenity is not denial of fact but rather the recognition of fact and the recovery from error for it is the assumption of the fact of somthing that is not true that lies underneath nearly all the tension that the human being develops. He has placed his own decision of what is so above the decision of the Universe. He has attempted to trust himself totally to his own imperfect knowledge and as a result he is not able to conduct his life adequately.

52:57 Nature is working constantly to give the individual victory over the circumstances of the world around him. The purpose of nature is not to build a better geological structure at the moment, its purpose is to build into this world human beings bigger than the world, who can achieve a victory over it. A victory over it in terms of a victory over their own common conduct and it is the world in terms of two and three quarter billion human beings that concerns us.

The problem with living for others and in the now is that people will scheme for the future to undo you. They will take and take and take from you until there is nothing left, then cast you aside as scorned...as less then them, like one of the homeless. And the only thing that will help the scorned are organizations that pray upon the downtrodden and/or an impossible effort to fight back up from the lowest bottom. This cannot be done by those that continue to give their alls.

Let's also say that when you are 18 or less.. and you are forced to go to war and never come back home.... or you come back home but you're damaged for the rest of your life.... , for example, to say that all our discontent is simply due to the fact that we don't accept life not going the way we wish..... is a bit of a stretch. Nature and the universe didn't decide that an 18 year old should go and kill and be killed just to please politicians and elites.
