@@marie-paulekneur5427 yeh well it was also apart of boxing so its not unique to just kung fu, though the boxing form of it leads to superior punching power
Man I love this, been using these techniques in mma sparring lately and it’s really throwing my buddies through a loop using them as counters after perrying punches. Fun stuff!
Great demonstration, thank you! Yes as the comments have said, Jack Dempsey spoke of this in his book. I first saw this training in what was known as Ninjutsu back then in the late 1980 s.
Nice placement. I bet you'd knock the wind outta my centerline, catch me right in the diaphragmal juncture just beneath the height of the center of the ribs. Placement can sound like anything, its how it feels on CONTACT which tells most, and that's about how anyone makes that other guy feel it. Lol, couldn't spar with light hands, nose might fall off. You're a wick wreckin' machine man.
Old school I learned this years ago in a traditional karate club even at my age of sixty nine years old I still train beaknuck on heavy bag and pushup good information
This is fantastic old school straight lead punch. It has some fencing influence and classic boxers such as Dempsey and even Jack Johnson would do this technique for his cross set up.

This was a really awesome vid man. My father taught me some karate. We call our punches lead straights and not jabs. Except ours done with the horizontal fist. I find it weird we stand square most time to train then practice sideways. Anyway bruce lee lead attack is the exact same in his art of jkd. I know bruce took boxing but I always find it fascinating to see these original old boxing styles that some people would look at weird today.
Powerful if it lands and better for preventing hand injuries. though slow. Unless you’re close to your opponent it’s easy for him to avoid. I’ll have to watch your other videos but this is what I say as a former Wing Chun guy and boxing trainer.
It is slower than a jab, but then again, it isn't a jab. It really works within two contexts - in a bout with pugilism rules and in a street encounter - the likelihood of the average belligerent in the street being a boxer or having a martial arts background is almost zero.
Awesome. Gotta red Dempseys book. Theres so much commitment with this punch, it would be great to see a combination starting with this falling step jolt, so as to see how to weave in the next movement, with a cadence. Excited and hope you upload much more that you know, Thank You. Because this type of knawledge is rare, and there are may desperate and thirsty to learn !!
Thank you! I will be posting every week, so there is much more to follow! Thank you for the suggestion of a combination from this punch - I will make a video that shows the transition.
@@OnyxXThePunch if you want to see old savate/boxe française kicking techniques I highly recommend the Les Arts Martiaux Français channel. It's only in french but you will find a lot of manuals being put into practice.
Good video! I appreciate ur knowledge of the old school british pugilism. But I have to disagree with the "power difference" between the "lead straight" and the modern jab. The reason your jab had less power is just because of a few errors in the technique. A proper jab lunging jab would actually look quite similar to what you're doing here. If you're interested, I can make a response video to breakdown the body mechanics of how to throw a proper lunging jab! They are extremely similar techniques, just varied slightly in their delivery.
Thank you for your feedback. I come from a Muay Thai background in terms of my modern striking, so I am used to throwing it differently than a boxer. I do use a lunge when throwing the jab while boxing, but I rarely spar with boxers these days. I know that the likes of Sonny Liston would knock people out with his jab, but I would say that there is still a power differential between the two punches for the majority of people. A great boxer can generate a lot power off the jab, but the average person training in boxing would likely not be able to. It is not really sold as a power punch these days, more as a set up for other shots. That being said, I appreciate your opinion, and concede that your knowledge of modern boxing is greater than mine. I'd love to see a video of your showing the proper lunging jab.
I use a sand filled bag - check out my video on conditioning for bareknuckle. I do not find the wrecking ball hard. I have conditioned hands though, so for a beginner it may be harder. I suggest not putting too much force into the strikes until you begin to build up your conditioning.

I really liked the video... But smashing the bottom knuckles almost full force in someones head is not really a good idea, actually that kind of technique is from boxing with gloves to pass the guard (stiff jab).
Fascinating how similar old school Kungfu and Pugilism are in their punching mechanics.
Mechanics are universal

Bruce Lee modified it to JKD to become straight lead punch with lead hand strong side forward which is a power punch inspired by jack dempsey!!!
