Super quality build. Slick function, reliable & beautiful. Can't go wrong. Although I was prejudiced against the Japanese guns giving preference to the Belgium, after handling and shooting a couple of my family's BPS I honestly had to surrender to the facts. These guns are absolutely top quality.
I'm a lefty and have always been happy with my 12 gauge 870. A nice, bombproof, economy shotgun that can do anything and has never jammed on me once. Nothing wrong with it at all. But after handling one of these BPS models, you can definitely see and feel where the extra money goes. Perfect, smooth action and just a better build and feel to it. I haven't the heart to sell my 870, but I'll certainly grab one of these in 20 gauge to round out my collection.
I bought a BPS micro Midas 20ga with my boys in mind. Now that they’ve grown, I got Browning to put the regular lop stock on it. At the time of purchase, they offered half off the stock. Just got it back and it’s better than new. It is a beautiful and well made shotgun.
I really, really love mine. I have the model with the highly shined wood stock and forend. Feels good, looks good - like a fine piece of furniture. Speaking of the forend, man, that slide is so smooth and at the same time, tight.
This video helped me decide that if I wanted to get a great all around high quality pump shotgun, I had to buy a BPS. Bought a 20G Field Model from 1999 with a 26” barrel. Don’t think the gun was ever shot before my owning of it. I absolutely love it!
Had one years ago, but I needed cash so I had to sell it. Beautiful gun. It's great for lefties, too, since the shells eject out the bottom rather than past your nose. When you get old, you get sentimental. I wish I still had that gun. But I did get my Dad's old Belgian-made superposed 12 gauge, so.... Nice review, & thanks for the vid; it brought back good memories.
I have one of these in the 12ga upland special configuration. As a lefty with a preference for english stocks, it suits me very well. The action is incredibly smooth, and with the appropriate chokes it performs well in all shooting situations.
Great vid as always!. I love the bps ive been using one for dove hunting for 20 years im on my second one (not cause the first wore out it was stolen) along with putting the hulls at your feet it also doesn't peg the person next to you i always counted that as a plus but i guess that depends on who your hunting with. Thanks for shining light on a under appreciated platform. I am looking forward to the next installment.
I bought one of these today. 26" Hunter 12 gage made in Japan in 1988. I went into my local shop looking for a used grouse gun, and this is less than ideal for that purpose (a bit heavy for carrying and more vore than needed for the job), but it was clear after handling a few that this was the best made gun of the ones I looked at. Thanks for a video that helped me narrow down my choices before walking into the shop.
.... I have been carrying a Mr John Browning's shotgun for 53 yrs ... since I purchased a Remington Model 17 at 13yrs old ... about 20 yrs ago I purchased a BPS 12Ga for waterfowl hunting ... a classic design ...
I've always picked up my spent shell cases. I have a browning bps in 20 gauge and like it, but I'm mostly a rabbit hunter and don't want to beat it through the brush.
@@Icarryone : I just bought one today. I can't wait to shoot it. I had to go online to find some 10 gauge shells. Federal makes 10 gauge shells, but compared to 12 gauge, they are expensive.
Pretty. I agree, gather the empty shells. I reload handgun and rifle ammo but not shotgun. I have a buddy that only loads shotgun. He gives me brass and I give him shot shell hulls. Works out well.
Totally agree with you about the lazy slobs who leave their hulls where they eject them so lay there for years! Makes me wish they'd go back to paper hulls. I have both the 12 and 20 Field models and yes they are an outstanding shotgun. We live in the era of "cheap is king" so hopefully Browning will stick with them and enough folks who value quality will buy them. As for where they're made? As long as the quality is there I couldn't care less.
What I am going to do with my Browning BPS is I am going to send it to Bobby Tyler gun Works in Texas. If you want to give your Browning BPS beautiful upgrade, Bobby Tyler does the best gun engraving and his work is well knowing. His prices is reasonable. He will turn any firearm into art work..
I've had 2 BPS's at different times in years gone by but ended up losing interest in them and trading them off. Now have 2 together, a 12 field and 20 field, both 26". Have the rifled slug barrel for the 20 along with the 26 vent rib. These guns will STAY! They really are great. I agree with you about empty shot shells and people leaving them on the ground. Surprised the greenies haven't been pushing for mandatory paper shells. Don't care where a gun is made as long as the quality is there. My new Portugal built and assembled Model 70's are the best I've ever handled, including the pre-64's.
Really slick. You already know I'm a 10mm fan. Well I got nerdy and thought it would be cool to go with "10" in everything I shoot, so 10/10/10, as in 10mm/AR-10/10gauge. (Hey, it makes plenty of sense on paper and sounds great in my head!) Shotgun-wise, it would probably be a Browning Gold Lite 10. But I've never even shot a 12gauge yet. So not really sure I have any business ever considering the mighty 10. It's also really hard to come by, and becoming even moreso all the time. Niche guns might be OK as parts of a collection, but they shouldn't be one's primary.
Had a BPS Hunter Predator a few years back that I sold... regret. However! I just picked up a Field Model in 20ga. There is something about the balance of a 20ga. It seems to be the perfect sum of its parts. Hard to explain of you haven't held a 12 then a 20 then a 12 again. You'll know what I mean.
@@Icarryone oh I'm sure YOU do!! 😄 That comment was more aimed at the general public. Have a wonderful summer, and I hope you get a deer or two this fall.
