2/15/24 Literally experienced everything explained at the beginning😂. This made me so happy watching the brilliance displayed with an easy way to reinstall a stupid design. Thank you for making this! And for an appropriate camera angle too! I’d say it wasn’t your first time 😁
I've used Browning BPS shotguns for over 40 years and after trying your technique just now, I can say it's by far the slickest method to re-install the trigger group that I've come across. I've tried about every commercial tool to do this task, and your method beats them all. Thanks...
Well heckers, I do not need my ball peen hammer any more for this installation.Instead of the tape (which is a great idea)I cut the magazine limiter to length and angled in in between the bars tight so it held them in place that way I can use it again if I can ever find it in it;s hiding spot.Sir, good video I am sure it took some time to get it figured out. thank you for your time and great video.Saved me two packs of smokes and little to no stress.
Just bought one and heard about the trigger group war story through pre- purchase research but could not pass up the price. THANK YOU for this video and your ingenuity!
THANKS SO MUCH for making this video. You just saved the day here! This secret really works and it's basically foolproof. Shame on those other disassembly/assembly videos for editing out any mention of how frustrating and difficult this step of reassembly is. Thank you again! 👍👍
FINALLY GOT IT BACK TOGETHER! Thanks to your description of the proper orientation of the stops, and of course how the trigger assembly is supposed to drop in and engage the slots.
I recently decided it was time to clean the BPS 10 gauge after using it a few times while duck hunting this year. Spent 4 hours trying to reassemble the trigger and eventually bent the stop bars (yeah that was a great idea) thinking it might help... Had to order a new pair which were 10 bucks each. Today I once again began trying to keep the bars in place without success. Finally followed your video using tape and the cut up soda can. When I lined everything up I could not believe that it popped in... I was overjoyed to see it actually slid in! Thank you so much for making this video. You saved me a trip to the gunsmith to reassemble the ole shotgun! Cheers!!!
Interesting video. I struggled with my BPS for four hours, then watched this several times. Struggled for another four hours, gave up and went to bed. Got up this morning and wasted another hour. Then took it to my gunsmith. It took him fifteen minutes but he got the cartridge stops and trigger housing in. He said the key to getting the trigger housing in is to slightly move the slide back and forth until the housing slips in. It worked for him.
Oh, my, goodness. save 4 hours eh? lol after disassembly, I had what I read about afterwards happen, I've read literally that "Satan resides within the trigger assembly, waiting for those foolish enough to disassemble it, upon which time the gun will be cursed". Took mine apart, boom, magically the right cartridge stop vanished. No joke. I looked for 2 days. Everywhere. I ordered a new one. struggled for 5.5 hours, understood the stops were the issue. tried all kinds of baloney to get them to sit correctly, to no avail. took a day and a half break. found your video... Ha! so simple, oh jeez. well, I'm gunna go do this and be so darn happy to be done with it. THANK You Sir! fine jib on the video BTW.
unfortunately this method or "trick", did not work for me. I tried more times than I will admit checking and rechecked anything and everything. My BPS is clean and properly lubed, not too much not too little, and yes parts are in the correct order and location. cartridge stops have now both been replaced with new.
I personally never disassembled my bps to that point, but I can see why it earned the reputation of a complicated shotgun, even if there are firearms far more complicated than this one. I'll be sure to remember this trick once I clean it, thanks for your simple and straight to the point video! Also thank you on the behalf of all the people who were struggling with that, im sure they appreciate it. For a first video, you knocked it out of the park!
Excellent video. I ran into the same issue a few days ago. Thanks for taking the time to explain - I figured I was just dumb. Glad to see I'n not the only one.
Brilliant! Thanks for making this video, I haven't detail stripped mine yet but now I'm not worried about having BPS guts strewn across the workbench for a month while I screw around with reassembly. 👍
This video certainly helped Did not need the tricks you showed, brownells video said to bring the action in at 90 degrees which I was not doing and I noticed the front of the assembly had a taper which spreads out bars. Hope this helps everyone
Watched this Video before I disassembled my "new to me" Browning BPS 12Ga and was very thankful for it. The Brownells Video, while good, skips this vital step in reassembly. Instead of an Aluminum Can, I cut two strips of Plastic from a small Soda Bottle and it worked the same. Thanks!
I was stuck big time, 1st BPS and it’s brand new. Shot a few rounds of 3 different loads today.. After the maker tip I was re-assembled. Watched the rest of the video anyway…. as I already had 1 thing to learn today. The shims were not necessary in my case. Thanks a million for the tip. Great first video , Fella.
Good for you and thanks so much. Such great detail and camera work for your first video. Nice that most people would have and be able to make the tools needed themselves.
I was struggling with this problem for a couple of days. You solved both my issues. The bars and the carrier. I was trying everything to get that carrier to open up.
Genius! Your video production is also excellent. Lighting, sound, camera position, shot order; you done good. Looking forward to more from your channel.
Good job. That top retainer pin with the sleeve is a real bear to get back together. Thank goodness for the Brownell’s video. I was ready to throw the gun out the window.
I've owned four different BPS pump guns. For years, I used only BPS guns for skeet tournaments and thus put them to heavy use in all weather and thus oftern pulled the triggers. And I've tried lots of methods and systems for reinstalling those triggers, including the infamous toothpick trick. This week, I tried Ggawgs' approach to the task. My set up did not look as steady and locked in as his, but it still worked on the first try. I like it.
This video worked great for me. After an hour or more of frustration I had it together in minutes with your guidance! But I did cut my thumb on the aluminum can guides when I pulled them out of the receiver. Lol!
Great explanation and fix. I’ve struggled putting mine back together every time I clean it. Thank God that’s only once a year after the season is over, more if I get caught in the rain.
This is a great explanation of a very difficult problem. I will note that on a 28 gauge the pin for the trigger group on mine is reversed so that the flat is on top. it set too low until I changed that. BLUF: if you take the trigger our at the range you will never get back in until you work on this for hours. The tolerances are very close on the 28.
And John M. Browning invented this design? Holy Cow....I wonder how HE would have put it back together? Great explanation and thanks....was thinking of buying a BPS, so this may prove useful to me in the future....thanks again.
They are great shotguns, so don't let this cleaning issue scare you from getting one. You can get used ones for great prices. I'm often tempted to pick them up when I see a good deal, but I really don't need any more.
@@ggawgs1420 Thank you sir, yes, I was thinking of trying to standardize my "fleet" as it were and get a BPS 10 gauge as I do a lot of waterfowl hunting and a BPS 20 for everything else....
Nice explanation, when I took it apart and started struggling with the reassembly I was hoping someone had a good video on how to reassemble it, you definitely fit that need. Thanks!
I’ve had bps since I was 16 I learned from my brother to reassemble it because he had one as well by the years goes by quickly learned how to reassemble my trigger fast and easy way now that I’m 28 still love the bps and I recently just bought 20 gauge Weatherby element max 5
@@ggawgs1420 I’m still struggling with it, I used a coke can an it goes 90% of the way and I can’t pull out the 2 tabs without pulling the assembly back off
Although this hasn't yet worked for me, I did learn that I can see the interaction between parts pretty well by removing the buttstock, I just need to find a way to get better lighting in there to get rid of any guessing on whats happening. from what I can see, these aluminum can strips are not strong enough to guide the new or old stops out of the way. With buttstock off, I may try a large set of tweezers, like very large(18" long) and see if those or maybe scissors might work if this is indeed the problem I'm having.
By coincidence I stripped mine today to re-blue it all, after I had it apart I put it back together just to make sure I could, it's definitely fiddly, but I did it, this would have made it easier....I've booked marked this ready for the rebuild after it's blued...
Muy buen video amigo nomas te falto mencionar algo que a mi me paso, la guia qué entra con la pieza grande esa se gira y si no te das cuenta entra en otra posición y jamás vas a poder meter tu pieza 😂 a mi me paso
What happens if you put the gun back together and pull the bolt back and the shell stoppers don't come down? I've had this problem not sure if they are bent or if I've put the points in the wrong spot
This is easy peasy if the hammer pin is in the correct position. Make sure the flat faces the correct way and fits like a glove, if the pin is 180 degrees, the trigger group will not go back in. Period. Easy gun to disassemble and reassemble if you look at the hammer pin after the trigger group is removed.
Very creative, I took mine apart a few days ago, and the problem I had was removing the bolt and bolt slide. not totally sure why it wouldn't just fall out like it use to. Put some clp on it and it eventually came out after wresting for 5 minutes. Any idea as to why?
I got my BPS put back together but my forearm won’t slide back into place after I put the trigger in. Is it because I don’t have the trigger lined up properly, also that lever pops out externally easily on my BPS as well.
Hmm, hard to say for sure without seeing it. Is it a 12 gauge? My gut tells me it's probably not the trigger group causing the problem. Could be that one of the stop bars isn't seated correctly. Or the bolt assembly isn't in there correctly??? I would pull the trigger out again, take the stop bars out, put the trigger back in and try it. If it works then, it's the stop bars, if not you'll have to dig deeper. Also make sure the hammer is down. I've never tried putting one together with the hammer up(position after the trigger is pulled) but I've read that can mess things up. So that's a possibility.
You probably should watch and follow the Brownells videos on disassembly, cleaning, lubrication and reassembly. Once you get to the trigger group reassembly, watch this video. This video is the final step in the process.
