    Good Lord. 59min later after trying to record my 79yr old aunt's own original song,albeit only one continous piano take till the end, we couldn't figure out from the extremely poor B&W pics of the screen in the manual, how to "make" a song-let alone save it! We went thru all the languages I could read-Eng, German and Dutch, to no avail. This video should be added with the Fantom and Roland should pay you for CLEARLY LAYING THIS OUT. Nearly didn't make my 60'th next Sept. after 3 strenous hours of just working in circles. Greetings from hot and humid Pretoria, South Africa

      I agree. Sometimes I think the high end synth guys either forget, Or don't really want to use common speak for things. Plus, This video is more along how I would like to work. I want to build out my own songs with it. So learning how to record a song from scratch really appeals to me. Plus, Quite often the synth pros explain things out of sequence making the info they are sharing difficult to apply in real time. For the record, I'm no Luddite. I was programming all the friends and neighbors VCRs in the early eighties as a kid. I can usually figure stuff like this out, but alas,Here we are.

    You can load up the songs into your sample pads bank on the right of the Fantom and then trigger them since they are scenes. You go into scene view I think? I dont quite remembere, there is a tutorial on the roland youtube.

  • @Letstalkgaming

    Not sure if you discovered that already but when grouping you can group all active patterns and they don't need to belong to the same lane / letter. Like you could activate Zone 1 and 2 from section A and zone 4 and 5 vfrom B and zone 10 from F. I kinda figured that out the hard way because I couldn't figure out why it was saving patterns from other letters. Once I figured it out it's kinda cool.

    • @DigitalDoxology

      According to Roland you are supposed to be able to use Fantom as an audio interface (I’ve never used this feature before) go to Roland support for instructions on how to set it up - use google search for “can Roland Fantom 06,07,08 record audio” and use link to Roland support. Hope this helps. Otherwise you’d create you tracks on an external audio - DAW or audio recording system such as a Tascam DP-24 or 32.

    Wow! This is top notch 🤩 I had a great time. Well done and a big thank you for providing such high quality content!
    I bought the Korg Nautilus 88 but I'm thinking of selling it because I don't understand much about it and then it has very few buttons so I can't use it properly.
    This Fantom 0 could very well replace it because its interface looks nicer and the integrated sequencer more affordable than the Korg one... There is also the yamaha modx8 but it's complicated too I think. The only problem is the quality of manufacture. The korg is top quality with a very good heavy keyboard (the rh8 of the kronos). On this point, I do not know what to expect with a Roland Fantom 08. Would I make a mistake by selling my Nautilus for a Fantom 08? 😁

    • @DigitalDoxology
      @DigitalDoxology  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the compliment, as far as trading the Nautilus for the Fantom-08 - I’m not as familiar with the Nautilus as I am the Kronos , the 08 does have weighted keys and Roland is on par in many ways with Korg IMHO as far as reliability and quality etc. I would try to get my hands on a Fantom-08 if I could first and play it beforehand if you can do that somehow before making any decisions.

      @@DigitalDoxology Thank you very much for your feedback.
      You are right, trying the Fantom 08 is the best way to compare. What you tell me about the quality of manufacture is reassuring. I had chosen the Nautilus for the quality and diversity of its sounds. But in the end, the interface and ease of use is more important. I will seriously consider this change. ☺️

    okay: you are basically using their sequencer in a LINEAR fashion, much not unlike my favorite sequencer in my MOTIF keyboard....As I plan to eventually use my Fantom as the master keyboard, I will be constructing songs the same way you have in this video. This is quite a bit different than what you see in all the other sequencer videos for Fantom on you tube and why? Because they are only doing esoterical, contemporary free form jazzy compositions, which lend themselves to using up variations of the same zones, and using checkerboard combinations to form the group. But when you are doing REAL songs, such as Caroline, the only way to do it, is the way you are describing here in this video with a straight linear concept. Constructing REAL songs in this manner, is the best way to go, breaking the song down into it's various components and them putting them back together in a logical fashion. I have a variety of "cheat" sheets that I also use for each song project. Nice job and thank you for reaching out to the truly new people out there who have never made songs in this manner.

    • @DigitalDoxology
      @DigitalDoxology  2 года назад +2

      Are you in the “pattern sequencer” mode and trying to copy and paste a pattern? If so, you will want to designate which square you want to copy it to and you’ll see it turn a color when complete. Also, be sure to “write” your work or save it continually so you don’t lose anything. I’ve had that happen a few times.

    • @DigitalDoxology
