Lets be real. If keldeo were released as a new pokemon nowadays, they would totally be given ice beam for flawless fighting/water/ice coverage, and an ability that immediately boosts sp.att or speed upon switch in.
Its actually kinda notable that despite the evident power creep in Gen 5, it was the gen that actually kinda stepped back in the movepool of the mons of the generation. Which is funny since this is the gen with arguably the highest average power level in gen and indivdiual pokemon in every format. Its not even older gen being tame - gen 1 movepool were super meme, and 2-3-4 isnt too far off. Its just 5 taking a dip Key example - several water type lacking Ice Beam(previously its iirc only Magikarp), the dragon trio lacking Earthquake. The starter trio lacking Earthquake(was on every starter until gen 5). Before BW2 Excadrill actually lacks Iron Head and to this day cant even use Stone Edge which is surprising considering the kind of Pokemon it is aesthetically Theres outlier like Drudiggon having insanely good movepool(basically Garchomp minus set up move but have Glare which is actually insanely good and Thunder Fang), and Hydreigon(compared to Garchomp it arguably have a more diverse move option due to being more elementally themed. Garchomp movepool were good/better focused but it reads more like a basic Ground type with a token Dragon options. Contrast to Dragonite + Tyranitar's Kaiju moveset, and Salamence being randomly nonsensical due to Events/Egg moves)
He gets Icy Wind, which is ice beam but multitarget and always slows the opponent instead of sometimes freezing. It only has 5 less base power too, so... Yeah no, keldeo is still objectively not OU strength and instead should be ubers.

I battled someone on showdown with a Keldeo against a team of Amoonguss, Mega Latias, and Jellicent. Lmao Keldeo has so many counters now, it’s so unfortunate. The Tapus really ruin it, too :(
Funny how keldeo will be the only swords of justice that will most likely not get a paradox form. Also gen 5 was peak for me hyper offensive high octane battles
Kinda wack for them to just leave the set incomplete, it's not like they'd even have to come up with a new design considering future paradoxes are robo versions of the original Mon.
Keldeo is a mythical and with no equivalent from Johto (there is no 4th legendary beast). Celebi is the only mythical but Victini would be its equivalent.
I never get tired of the amount of DKC, Chrono Trigger and other great OST's Jimothy uses on his videos. This might be a Pokémon channel but I wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much without all this musical variety.
The other great OST's are mostly just Grant Kirkhope (DK64 and Banjo-Kazooie composer), but that's all we need really. It is funny that all the themes in this channel have some whimsical quality, which makes Jimothy a wizard of some sort, sharing with us the secrets of competitive Pokemon.
I'm not so sure, I feel like it would do quite well in gen 9 OU right now given how it would match up with a lot of the top threats like Great Tusk, Gliscor, and Kingambit. Gholdengo could be a problem though now that I think about it.
It all depends on the execution. Paradox Suicune is a banger, Paradox Raikou also, to a lesser extent. But Iron Leaves and Crown are literally just 'bots. Maybe if it was made into some type of cyborg-unicorn-pony it would be cool.

Actually Toxicroak is one of the best counters against Keldeo in gen 5. Immune to water, resists secret sword, and not weak to icy wind and hidden power grass/ghost. Against CM sets, you can also keep pace with bulk up and end up ahead with drain punch
Simple, if your gen 5 team didn't gave an Amoongus or Water Absorb Jellicent than good luck switching into it if rain happens to be up. Kinda helps that Water/fighting is the perfect stab combination that prevents every other weather setter from switching in to Keldeo without fear of getting ohkoed. The only awful thing about Keldeo is that your essentially fighting without an ability and yet it's still that good.
Really put some firepower behind rain. Thing kicks ass on any archetype in gen 5, the counters are super specific and the checks are are all pursuit weak. Requires at least 2 checks on all teams or else it’s a big problem
I absolutely love gen 5 OU. I ran a small singles tournament discord server for a few months with some friends and our gen 5 ou tournament was our first non random battle tournament. I think I developed into the competitive player I am today during that tournament. I learned to be much more flexible in trying new things out and to give less traditional teams a chance. I'd say that dragmag is my favorite team archetype to this day.
Great video! Keldeo is one of my favorite mons to use in Gen 5 OU. Even several mons that resist it really don't want to be switching in on specs hydro pump. Latios can easily get worn down this way and possibly even KO'd the second time it comes in on Keldeo.
Tell you what, it's so tragic that Gholdengo has so much potential to be a nice pokemon with his signature ability, Good as Gold, yet he just can't seem to shake his attachment to crime. I believe that he is being lead down a dark path by Old Money. He needs true rehabilitation

I have seen a lot of talks about Pokemon who can deal with Blissey. Sometimes I get the feeling that Blissey isn't worth running because of "with this it can even break through Blissey".
I remember getting to about 1600 ranking in gen 5 without legendaries or weather setters since I just preferred not to. Definitely felt like matchup fishing.

I used to play alot of gen 5 ou and still do from time to time. Keldeo was and is a staple in every team I build. I favourite team is weather less teams and weather less with tyranitar and Keldeo with a choice Specs is possibly the best pokemon I've used in almost any OU format except Tyranitar and Snorlax in gen 3 and 2 OU
i am not gonna lie growing up i was a Johto region boy my Feraligatr was it until gen Five released and the creators made me basically a Fierce battling Water Pony that could conduct these giant water blasts from all four of its Hooves and glide through the air so majestically i was hooked by its design like its a Heroic Musketeer as well now that i played Scarlet and Violet and the new moves are coming out like Scald is back out i would love to see Keldeo get a new Ability for sure! possibly i would even like to a new move that is is available to Keldeo or his new unlock-able signature move maybe a Z move or something I have pushed My boy down no offense to Feraligatr but he has not got the same amount of love so many Crocodiles out there not enough Mythical Water Ponies with A Secret Sword you know what i am saying not to mention in my top 6 mons i put Marshadow i cant help but move this dude as well
I’ve always wondered why they gave 30% burn chance to a WATER move with 100% accuracy and good damage but no fire move has anything nearly as good without some sort of drawback.
Gen 5 was the generation that caused me to quit pokemon, because I hated the new designs. Gen 5 was also the gen that brought me back to pokemon, and got me into competitive singles. It still is my favorite generation, competitively.
I think Gen V OU might be one of the best metas ever if weather wasn't permanent. I like permanent weather actually and think it gives a lot of character to Gen V though.

@@fen_u9401 I think ADV OU Blissey is my favorite in terms of gameplay. It is very strong as a wall but can still be used offensively. However, it is not as easy to support as in other generations. You can easily pressure it with Spikes, Rock Spam, Banded Metagross and Explosion from various mons. After that, all you get to see after gen 6 is Eviolite Seismic Toss Chansey and its demonic teammates : Regen-spam, Gliscor / Landorus, Clefable, Quagsire... I'm super fine with dealing with just Blissey and Skarm lol

People who use the "identity argument" dont know what thjey talkin about A competitive metagame should be aboput the competitiveness, which means making sure to reward skill Allowing Keldeo and Latios restricts teambuilding in such a big way that team structures make you require to use soimething or else you lose and even then it is unreasonably difficult, near impossible to check every threat, it doesnt matter what team style you use, you just get destroyed by one Pokemon no matter what Keeping broken stuff around to check other broken stuff around is not how things should be done imo, cuz if thats the case then lets just start every generation without bans, so Ubers becomes the new standard play format, which Im not totally against, but since competitive Pokemon has had initial banlist ever since gen1, it is how it works now. If the ban of keldeo and latios makes other Pokemon broken, then ban those too until nothing breaks the metagame, thats how it should be

It took me until very recently to realise that Keldeo's signature move is called Secret Sword, and it's not Sacred Sword like other swords of justice.

Gen 5 OU has a slew of "broken" mons which is why it is balanced. Gen 2 OU with Snorlax is not balanced.
