I'm 52 and I can tell you life rarely ever works out the way you think it will. I never imagined my mom would get dementia and pass before my dad, who is 6 years older. I never imagined my dad would outlive not only my mom, but all 5 of his younger siblings. There are other things I could list. I just don't make expectations and I roll with it. Life can still be enjoyable.

It sounds like you have lots of exciting things planned ahead. I'm sure you are going to have a blast in NY. I'm glad you have a band that will help entertain everyone because sometimes being the bride and groom you spend so much time making sure everyone is happy that you miss the enjoyment of your own wedding. Having a nice spa weekend with close friends sounds like a fantastic hen party to me. Especially if you have it with those little sandwiches and puddings with a little prosecco :) Mani/pedi's, facials, massages, the works. I think it's because we're taught that creative things are fun, and you shouldn't have fun until the work gets done. When in reality, creating is harder than regular mundane activities. Wedding planning, btw, is a full time job for six months! I only had 32 guests but the details of wedding prep are ginormous! Living with the two most important men of your life right now is amazing, so happy for you. Do you have salt caves in England? They are amazing! So you sit on a gravity chair and they give you a light blanket and just breath in the Himalayan salty air. It’s great for respiratory for your skin for arthritis and some places offer a reflexology while your relaxing. Just idea for you to do with your friends before your wedding 😊

Sometimes old before becoming a parent can be a good thing. Especially if you're still in good health. I was a little bit older than most before becoming a parent and have zero regrets. I did lots of fun things at younger ages that you can't really do when you have children. I wasn't limited on time by needing to get back to my kids. At the time I would have preferred to have had kids younger but since it just didn't happen I decided to enjoy life.
Things rarely work out perfectly. It's good to plan, but you never know of the curveballs life throws you. And really it's a good thing how it's worked out, as you pointed out. And remember, "man plans, God laughs."
Please be careful in NYC. Going by yourself, please be extra careful. It is not the same. Remember to enjoy your wedding day. It should be one day that you never forget. The day off of your wedding, please assign professionals to every tasks. If possible, do a “start to end” schedule. Wishing all the best for your wedding. ❤️
I think we have come full circle. When I was young I couldn't wait to live on my own, and now lots of young people live with their parents. My parents got married right after WWII and lived in a small apartment in my grandmother's house for quite a few years while my father went to law school, and later while he was getting established. A lot of it depends on the economy.

Nothing wrong with having kids in your 30s! I didn't have my first until I was 31 (just had my second at 35), and my husband was 36 almost 37. Having kids when you're older allows you to be more stable, emotionally & financially. I think it's great that your dad has allowed you to live with him and save money- that's huge! And I can't imagine having 350 people at my wedding. 75 felt huge to me lol.

I know how you feel Lia. I love celebrating everyone’s birthdays or special occasions. Yet I never celebrate my own birthday etc….. its because I’m extroverted but hate being the centre of attention. So a surprise party is a no from me ha ha ha.
Cherish time with your dad. I had to bury my father last week. I was not ready to let him go. It’s hard to get into the holiday season and I feel like staying home alone and doing nothing. To combat that, I’m having lunch with good friends in a couple days and in a few weeks I’m going to an art exhibit with a different friend. Keep busy, but take some time for yourself.

I didn't have my kids till I was 31 & 36 yrs old by MY choice. I got married when I was 27 but I wasn't ready for kids yet. So don't feel rushed! :)

Nothing wrong with having kids in your 30s! I didn't have my first until I was 31 (just had my second at 35), and my husband was 36 almost 37. Having kids when you're older allows you to be more stable, emotionally & financially. I think it's great that your dad has allowed you to live with him and save money- that's huge! And I can't imagine having 350 people at my wedding. 75 felt huge to me lol.

I know how you feel Lia. I love celebrating everyone’s birthdays or special occasions. Yet I never celebrate my own birthday etc….. its because I’m extroverted but hate being the centre of attention. So a surprise party is a no from me ha ha ha.

Cherish time with your dad. I had to bury my father last week. I was not ready to let him go. It’s hard to get into the holiday season and I feel like staying home alone and doing nothing. To combat that, I’m having lunch with good friends in a couple days and in a few weeks I’m going to an art exhibit with a different friend. Keep busy, but take some time for yourself.
