Holy crap, his artifacts belong in a museum. This is a wonderful series, thanks for posting it. He seems like a very approachable, really nice guy with a lack of ego bullshit. Very nice, thanks!
He is. Very cool guy. I by chance took a call from him years ago in a tech support role when he had issues with his smartphone. Totally humble. I've played for years and it still didn't actually occur to me who I was talking to and he was just "Yeah I have a company. I make guitar pickups. I don't know if you know of it or not." After a few minutes I was like WAIT? You're THE Seymour Duncan!? For some reason I assumed he would have an assistant or something handling this. Haha! He asked me for my email address and sent me info and catalogs and was just like "let me know if anything interests you." He comes across like one of those guys that doesn't care if you're a no name from the street or a rock star; he will treat you the same.
Great series of videos with a great musical legend. He seems like a genuinely cool guy...that just so happens to build the only aftermarket pickups I'll buy.
Pretty amazing story all around. I am a Jimi devotee and so when he pulled out that scarf and said, well Jimi gave it to me, WOW! That is rareified air to be sure. I just bought a Les Paul that came with a set of Seymore's PAF Antiquities and the tone is better then anything I could have ever dreamed of. They guy that got it new had it set up with vintage bumblebee tone caps and it is a tone machine. I love how each pickup is hand signed twice, one on the magnet and once on the serial number.
Very awesome . Especially loved the Jimi part . I was fortunate to see Jimi twice . The first time was at the Spectrum in Philly which was just fantastic . I have a Bonamassa Epiphone Les Paul and trying to figure out which Duncan pick ups to put in it. So far I'm thinking of a set of Phat Cats or Pearly Gates or one of each .
I simply can't imagine paying money for replacement or new install pickups and them not being Seymour Duncan. Like, I've literally avoided purchasing guitars because they came with DiMarzios or EMGs. I have a couple of original Yamaha and Ibanez guitars that came with their in-house hand-wound pickups that I would never change because they were tuned in Japan to the exact instruments that were hand crafted there for very specific purposes but everything else I've owned since the mid 1990s has been from Seymour. I've never had an issue with one and never even known of anyone who has. There's no magic to it, just pure science and the utmost reliability, it comes from the MAN himself not the cosmos, he absolutely knows what he is doing. That said, there is something about him personally - the guy was meant to do what he does and has done, dude is a blessed individual and he has NOT mishandled the gifts that God gave to him. He's not a rich kid who was handed a corporation to manage or some techie geek in a modern ''upstart'' guessing and winging it. Again, it doesn't matter to me AT ALL what other pickup brands have or will come up with, I'm a 100% Seymour Duncan fan-boy for the rest of this life at least :P
