That's not the way I interpreted it. He just decided that selling out and following in his footsteps was a better lifestyle choice for him and that it was time for a change. Losing your best friend like that can wake you up sometimes. Even I had to do the same thing multiple times in my life and I went from blue colored hair just like him to clean cut. But the ending scene was classic and a great statement to make regardless. SLC Punk! is such a brilliant film.
