    Frankie's forgotten more about "big race riding" than many of the jockey's who rode against him here could ever hope to learn in what's left of the rest of this one + another lifetime added. He's always been great for the sport too. Carismatic as hell, good looking SOB, a great spokesman for the sport, always doing terrific interviews, but when it comes time to take a leg up into the saddle he's always 110% about the business at hand.

    Beautiful ride from Frankie Dettori, from a bad draw; he had the colt in a perfect position within three furlongs. Fantastic horse and brilliance from Frankie. Golden Horn reminds me of Lammtarra (1995 Arc winner); both tough, classy horses.

    Thanks for showing, missed race due to work. So pleased Golden Horn won, nice odds too. Shame he got beat at York, should be unbeaten when he retires to Darley Stud. Would have loved to see him race as a 4 year old, but he's worth to much now. A True Champion.

    Excellent game play by Frankie Dettori taking Golden Horn to the win. What a team Frankie and Golden Horn are. Very thrilling race. I knew Golden Horn would do it. Especially with Frankie on board. GREAT RACE. Congratulations to Team Golden Horn. WELL DONE. Frankie made it look easy. VERY easy for Golden Horn. What a powerful horse.

    You have to remember how deep this field was, with so many world-class thoroughbreds.. this makes Golden Horns performance all the more remarkable.. He's shown pure class ever since the Dante, and a lot of people will be kicking themselves for writing him off like they did before the race.. He had his favoured ground, he's the Derby winner, a better derby winner than Sea The Stars (on ratings), there was all the hype for being declared "better than Frankel at this stage" after he won the Eclipse, and so allowing him to drift to 7/1 at one stage, was just ridiculous.. He was the highest rated horse in the race, on weight adjusted ratings, but he was almost friendless before the off.. Treve was unproven on the ground, and certainly never put a 130+ performance on ground better than Good to Soft.. so she had a lot to prove.. but I will say, if she was given a better, more calculated ride, she might have ran Golden Horn a lot closer than she did.. Jarnet should have had her where Free Eagle was, or took the brave mans route up the inside.. but they believed in her invincibility, so Freddy Head said himself.. but invincibility with a huge 3 year old fillies weight allowance, running on soft ground (2013), looks a bit different to invincibility running against good horses on similar weights, on good ground (2014), and a whole lot different to invincibility against a world class horse, with all his conditions, while giving him 5lb (2015) ..The facts and figures say Treve and Golden Horn are virtually equal at their own game .. But, you do have to wonder, if Treve made her move earlier, and didn't come so far wide, would we now be talking of a 3 time Arc winner? Was Golden Horns performance really *better* than Treve's, considering everything went his way, she was lit up, wasted ground, and came from too far back? And as Freddy Head also realized; no horses won from off the pace at Longchamp that day, but Treve was one of the few horses to make up considerable ground.. and so all things considered, perhaps Treve and Golden Horn are equally brilliant on good ground.. while Treve is a different monster all together on Soft ground; at least visually.. (I have her at 134 on Soft, and 133 on Good.. Golden Horn 133 on Good, and somewhere in the 120's on soft.. meaning, to me at least, Treve is a little more special than Golden Horn.. but who knows what he'd become as a 4 year old? I guess we'll never find out.. but what we have found out, is Golden Horn is a worthy champion, a very memorable champion; one who's name deserves to be echoed amongst the pantheon of horse racing greats ! :))

      No comparison can ever be made between GH and frankel. completely different horses. GH is a true mile & half horse and frankel was personally for me better over a mile(just). I think this is as good a performance as you're likely to see in a field littered with pure quality as you pointed out. Treve wouldn't have won wherever she was, she hated the ground hence the hanging in most of the straight!

      I don't think it was quite a Sea Bird performance, and only 7th fastest in the last 15 years, in a race not traditionally associated with fast times, because of the inevitable poor going at this time of year.
      You are right about almost being friendless, especially on the Pari Mutuel. The English on the course must have thought it was Christmas.

He has already covered more than one hundred mares, has forty five already booked in, as well as another five late bookings. His fertility rate is currently ninety three per cent.This surely proves beyond doubt that the Derby at Epsom remains the most valuable race in the world and the one every flat racing fan wants to win.

    This is one of the two most creative rides from Dettori this year, alongside with Undrafted in Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Racing out wide for one furlong before cutting in behind the pacemaker is probably the only way to overcome a bad draw. He may be lucky to be able to cut in with a not-so-strong pace by the pacemaker who was supposed to help Treve rather than him. However, even if the pace had been strong, the horses would be more wide apart, which should have allowed Dettori to cut in mid-field one or two deep. So that is a bet with no downside.
    Poor Jarnet. I think Jarnet expected a much faster pace from his stablemate. Treve refused to settle, and was forced to four deep. However, her hanging in in the straight means that she was not herself.

    Incompetent rider screwed Treve over by deciding to ignore the pacemaker that was specifically there to help her, hang back until it was too late before starting to move, and then only half-heartedly drive her while Golden Horn's rider actually used his whip properly.

      ADAM CONNOLLY I backed Golden Horn at 10/1. I am a very happy punter in that regard. My comment is not motivated by bitterness at losing, it is motivated by watching Treve be prevented from giving her best performance. She already had every other horse in the field baying for her blood, the last thing she needed was to be hindered by her own rider.

  • @anotherblonde

    Golden Horn's time 2.27:23. Inspired ride by Frankie using unusual tactics to wrong foot the rest of the field. By the time GH was in front there was nothing anyone could do. Good effort by Treve on wrong ground for her. Time she went to the paddocks before she gets injured, maybe to Frankel, STS or even Golden Horn! Best Arc since Sea the Stars (won Arc in 2009 2.26:30).

    • @aeglaecaaglaeca5775

      +anotherblonde Sea the Stars drawn 6 - Golden Horn drawn 14 - Sea the Stars drawn 4 Derby - Golden Horn Drawn 8 - 4 seconds faster on slightly better going, not a breath between them.

    • @keithbate9405
      @keithbate9405 8 лет назад

      +anotherblonde Its difficult to compare on times as the going makes so much difference in horse racing as compared to (say) Athletics.
      Golden Horn is clearly "one of the greats" but IMO Sea the Stars was generally more impressive being also a classic winner over 1 mile (unlike Golden Horn) . Therefore suggesting he had a burst of acceleration when needed.
      IMO though I think Dancing Brave is the best Arc winner I have witnessed (I go back to 1969) . I believe the burst of acceleration he produced in that race was exceptional under 12 secs for the final furling. Of course he was also a classic winner over a mile just like sea the Stars. You have to respect Trev as a dual arc winner . But he did not show that from away from Longchamp unlike Dancing Brave/Sea the stars and Golden horn.
      ps of course trev had to give weight to GH because of the age difference.

    • @shaunchambers7369
      @shaunchambers7369 8 лет назад

      Sea the Stars pulled Michael Kinane's arms out for half the race, it's hard to make an argument that Golden Horn is a better horse. I personally think that Sea the Stars was the best Arc winner of all time.

    • @keithbate9405
      @keithbate9405 8 лет назад

      +Shaun Chambers I would put STS second only to Dancing Brave .
      Pity we did not see Frankel v STS over a mile and a quarter if STS had been kept in training as a 4yo.
      In horse racing you rarely have a clash of champions that is why I respect Brigadier Gerrard's record. he clashed with Mill Reef , Roberto, Rheingold and the 2 yo champion (beaten Mill reef) MY Swallow. ONly the derby winner of 72 beat him and the Brigadier had to give weight to Roberto in that race (and the Brigadier still beat the old course record in finishing second)

    • @michaeltregaron4060

      I remember the B&H at York so well. It was an Arkle v Mill House moment. In any other circumstances, I believe the Brigadier would have beaten Roberto, but the combination of rumoured health problems, the weight difference (11Ib), and the inspired ride that Baeza gave Roberto combined to turn the race into a truly memorable event.

    I hope Golden Horn isn't sent to the Breeders Cup. What exactly has he got to gain? The situation reminds me of Dancing Braves disastrous attempt at the same race in 1986. He'd won the Arc having been on the go for six months and was beaten by horses who wouldn't have touched him in Europe. Unfortunately Manilas owner gave a textbook performance on how to be graceless in victory.Yes it still rankles a bit! • @keywestsunset3897

      +TheSeanTaylor7 I believe that the only reason we have the BC Turf here in the states is is to attract the European horses. Rightfully so, I have been watching the Breeders cup since it's inaugural running in 1984 and the European horses are in a different stratosphere over the U.S. horses, always have been, always will be, IMO.
      American Pharaoh overrated, IMO. Very good horse, not great. Ducked three different challenges from best Older horses in U.S.
      Looks like a very good possibility of Breeders cup turf: tiny.cc/m05c4x
      Just two observations: I watched the replay of the Irish Champion stakes, and IMO, Golden Horn Should have been taken down. People made the case that Free Eagle wasn't going to get past him, (it looked like he was to me), but either way, Golden Horn did impede Free Eagle.
      Why did Glen Eagles and Golden Horn never face each other? I read somewhere that Golden Horn Doesn't like a soft turf where Glen Eagles does.
      Thanks

    In my opinion, I do not think treve got the right prep. Look at second place finisher, flintshire. He went to the U.S. To prep. He went to the sword dancer to prep at Saratoga. Treve should have gone to Chicago for the Beverly d to prep. Treve vs Euro Charline would have been awesome. I want her to come to the U.S. As a broodmare to breed with AP, at the very least.

    By all means extol the virtues of a magnificent performance and achievement by Golden Horn, but don't indulge in the nonsense that he is the better horse. Fact is, we will never know because Treve failed to produce her best on this particular day. If there was cut in the ground, would he have won, or even started? I don't think so. Golden Horn was simply the best on this particular day, that's all. If we can find excuses for his Juddmonte failure, then surely we can extend the same courtesy to the great mare.

    • @benbim540
      @benbim540 8 лет назад

      +greyflight there were no excuses at York he beat the grey Gatsby by the same distance in the Juddmonte that he beat him by in the eclipse but for some strange reason Arabian queen found at least 15lbs from somewhere, and treve had no excuses either. last year on slightly slower going which suited her better than flintshire she had a perfect run round the inside this year she was a lot wider and the going was a little quicker and she narrowly lost to flintshire a turnaround of only 2 1/2 lengths from last years arc. which can be explained by the perfect inside run she got last year. so she did produce her best but round the outside her best was not good enough,

    nobody has told it, but what if Jarnet lost on purpose?
    I know that to admit something similar could be impossible, but then I have 2 questions to do
    I specify, that it is about 25 years that I observe races, 1) how could it be that Flintshire is 2 and Treve 4?
    in 2014 Treve proved she is clearly better
    2) could anyone please explain to me, why, in the last 250 metres (about) , every jockey , every, also jockeys of late horses, move their arms as devil inside, while Jarnet seems to stay at a party drinking tea??
    ps: last. why Treve is 4, and not 12 or 8?? I mean, casually, if a race is tricked, favourite horse arrive magica
    ly 4th , in time to take money for him, but losing all bets on him...
    a last thing, to those who will tell me I' m crazy.....6 or 7 years ago, I wrote on a forum, that in the prix Cardan , i suppose, the favourite has been stopped.....every body told me I was stupid.....after some years, jockey was disqualified for tricks!! (Fallon)

      That's a long conspiracy theory.
      Consider three things. The going, Dettori's inspired tactics, and a distance between Treve and GH that didn't really change from 400 mtrs out to the line, which implies Treve lost the race in the early stages. If you want to criticise Jarnet then his failure to understand the implications of allowing so much distance between him and Dettori, who was on colt who loved fast ground, was critical. In retrospect, he would ride the race differently, by laying up much closer to the winner.

    • @overload1972
      @overload1972 8 лет назад

      +Michael Tregaron hi,first, when I saw the race, I was admired for what a brilliant win by Frankie....what a wonderful tactics, I thought!!but then, I saw the second (that I suppose will arrive between the first 3), Flintshire, and I thought: how could it be that Flintshire inverted the line with Treve??? So what is your answer??? and what is your answer when I ask you, why Jarnet, that i'm not critizising, I said he stole!;:))) all jockeys give their souls last 250 metres, while Jarnet looks like he is playing violin???Anyway, I don't want to have reason, because when you talk about tricks to players, everybody look at you like a terrorist....because to admit one is wrong is the most difficult thing in life.....(for example, the going improve Golden, but surely cannot worst Treve, as you wrote, to justify her lost.....)and if you want to know, for me New Bay is ridiculos, at this level, he can never defeat Treve, also if they run on mirrors...;:))))

    • @overload1972
      @overload1972 8 лет назад

      +Michael Tregaron sorry, I forgot,there's no need for long Conspiracy theory.....someone has told " where there is money , there is also tricks"I suppose , on this race, and so on Treve, there have been almost 50 milions of euros, maybe more, (just look on betfair) so there is a so easy reason for this.....Also for me it could be incredible, that one can stop Treve in the most important race in the world, before she enter the history, by winning 3 times prix de l'Arc.But,as I wrote, I observe horse races since 25 years, and I won several times, also a lot of money, (just to prove I'm a sharp man) , even my balance is of course negative!, and Flintshire 2, Jarnet still on Treve last 250 metres, Treve favourite (money money money) Treve 4th (I mean, if she made a wrong race, she should arrrived 12-----8??? not 4th!)are all elements that make me a little bit unconvinced....obviously, I'm not sure of my theory.....a last question to you: do you think all races are fair??? or do you admit there are tricks sometimes???bye

    • @overload1972
      @overload1972 8 лет назад

      +Michael Tregaron dear Michael, for example, I was sure that Lance Amstrong was a champion! so, in horse race, but most of all in life, not everything is like it appears..!I've seen, prix de l'Arc 2013 and 2014look, if you are a good observer of horse races, at Jarnet action...in 2013, his movement on Treve, was long, plastique and energic!!even if he has 30 metres of advantage on the second horse at 200 metres to the finish post, (so , why push Treve so strong if you are in control????)instead in 2015 his action is short, weak and forced....mmmmmmmmmmmmand he was behind, so he should be energic as in 2013....now , if you understand quiet enough of horse races, you cannot be agree with me.......(sorry for my bad english;:))

      +contee12345 I would say a combination of the way she sweated up and having to race out wide were fairly good excuses, or at least reasons for why she might have been beaten.
      None of that is meant to take anything away from the winner though as he wasn't drawn that well, which was a disadvantage and meant either dropping out and coming wide or using up a bit early on to take a position.

    Was expecting a great race but it was so disappointing. Treve would of won that easily if she got a good ride. She should of been turning for home first, then once she kicked she would of gone clear and nothing would catch her. Yet she is drawn stall 8 and she ends up 10 lengths down out wide and still only gets beat 2 lengths. Golden Horn was the danger but from that draw it made it impossible but the mighty Frankie sensed the pace was bullshit (supposed to be set by Treves pacemaker who the supplemented of 120K!!)and managed to sit second on the rail haha its laughable how he got that position! If you re-ran the Arc you would get a different result. It was an awful arc a horse that got smashed of Arabian Queen won a 5 million pound race.

    Can’t understand why the “arc” is rated as a group 1. It is run on, as J Gosden describes, an alluvial plane. In other words, a river bog. Not a suitable test for thoroughbred horses.
