I love that this team seems to take one element and give you as much of that world possible and show you it's beauty. We had wind and then sand and now the ocean. If I was to try and create the ultimate video game, this team would definitely be in charge of environments.
Does ABZÛ have a kind of "told between the lines" emotional story like Journey and Flower or is it more of an Experience™ (sorry Kyle) where the point is to basically just enjoy the environment? Either way it looks great and the music sounds amazing as usual with these guys.
Abzu" in the original Sumerian mythos referred to the original source of "deep water" or "pure water" separate and different from salt water. Later Sumerian culture would personify it as an actual deity, "Absu" which was the living embodiment of the formless void, and it's consort, "Tiamat", would be the living embodiment of the salt oceans. The Sumerians believed that all life originally sprang forth from the "Abzu". So the game is representing that concept by allowing the player to dive into those special wells and enter the metaphysical plane from which all life originates and by releasing the essence of the "Abzu" bring life back to the dead or abandoned sections of the oceans. The story of the game hits a high note in chapter four and onward. It is a rather simple concept further explained through wall murals and is very similar to the one found in Journey. The only real question is who or what has imprisoned or constrained the "Abzu" and how are you going to deal with it, which is quite the entertaining and visually stunning little adventure as it turns out. All in all a brief but beautiful game worth both the asking price and your time, which will be well spent.
I definitely agree that there's a central story thread but I do think it's a little less emotional than Journey's and the environments take center stage a little more, relatively speaking (I never finished Flower).
Your voice will forever be tied to game reviews for me. Don't. Ever. Stop. doing it. :) Gametrailers, Easy Allies...just keep reading (and making) reviews
Just beat it! Great game! So glad 505 games published it. They also published Adr1ft, another very unique but risky game. Yea, supporting unique games, GJ 505.
1:44 To choose which aquatic beastie you want to float with next (while you are meditating) you just put that fish you want _right at the centre_ of yr screen, then flick right on L stick - there seems to be like some invisible 'cross-hairs' - Hot tip :)
Been waiting for the next game by ThatGameCompany. Looks like we essentially got it. Can't wait. Is it like Endless Ocean in that there is basically no fail state? No dying?
Although I wouldn't want reviewers to give anything other than their honest, personal opinion and I thought the editing and writing of the review were really good, I don't understand why the game didn't get a higher score. I mean, it doesn't become clear to me from what's being said. I didn't hear a lot of negative things. My own opinion of ABZU might have colored my expectations of the review though, I feel I have to add for honesty's sake. Personally, for what ABZU is (a 'Journey'-like), it's a 10/10 for me. It totally pulled me in. I enjoyed the amazing environments, wildlife and just the general atmosphere, while never feeling bored.
Not a bad score. I've had so many times where my kids want to watch tv, and I want to play a game but haven't been in the mood to play much, but ABZU saves all of us and ends up just making everyone happy (and sleepy too).
Honestly seems like it would be 3 stars - Decent. It looks nice but there doesn't seem to be much else to it, especially considering the story circumstances. It doesn't seem like a game that someone would want to go back to and play again later down the line once they beat it. Play it for the experience of it but I don't think it's substantial enough to warrant a 4 star - Excellent in my opinion.
good! i was getting tired of walking sims....now i can swim! XD also limiting footage to only first few areas so as not to avoid the experience?! ign wouldnt DREAM of that lol.
I vote to have reviewers narrate their own reviews. I love Brandon's voice as much as anyone else but there is a small disconnect that happens in this process. Anyone agree?
I can dig it and I respect his sculpted tones and pitches...but sometimes we appreciate the grit and crudity of others ;). Keep up the good work though! Your streams and casts are my beacons of light in my beautiful, usually rainy, and awfully slow Hawaii commutes. Cheers EZA!
great review, considering on getting it to play with my gf, isn't there a way you guys could paste a link in the review so it could work as a referrals and you guys could get some extra revenue? I understand that it could work against your credibility since it'd be in your interest to say nice things about the game in order to get it to sell more, and now come to think of it I'd rather not get the game and support you guys on patreon....
I don't know why they would just remake Journey. I can easily just play Journey. It isn't like its old or on some outdated console. It makes the game really unappealing.
+Ben O'Donnell You sound like you want to pick a fight. You start off with such an ambiguous comment, expecting them to realize what you mean...and then you go on saying Uncharted 4. Have a bad morning? Smh..
Generations Gamer I have no problem picking a fight with someone who THINKS they know my intentions. All I did was give too little of information in my comment. It's like you can read the tone of my text. How about you stop projecting what you think I meant. Good? Good.
***** I get that. But if I didn't play Uncharted 4 before I saw the review the revealing of Libertalia would've been dampened for me. It was quite a moment in the game and the review showed it off a bit. For as much as you all tip-toe around spoilers, which can be appreciated, showing late-game clips in the reviews seems to ignore that.
Flower and Journey brought the feels and now I'm so stoked to just chill in and explore this world.
1:53 I found Dory!
Also great review Blood!
LOL
Looks like Journey underwater. I'M SOLD
Just finished it and it really is exactly that. It's great.
That's exactly right, lol.
Bloodworth&Jones is one hell of a combo for making reviews. I just wish they would come more often
Easy Allies have so many great reviewers. They're the best in the industry hands down.
Rephrase-then-Erase Definitely one of the most seasoned crew. Too bad they prefer to play old garbage instead of new games
love the promotion at the end there! anything helps. :)
wait. that voice ... gametrailers?!

Another great score by Austin Wintory.
I didn't realize it was him but I should've known just based on the quality.

Perfect thanks!

I loved this game, but I couldn't shake the feeling that ABZÛ was the sequal to Journey that we didn't need
Finally, a game-length water level.
You never played an Ecco the Dolphin game?

The one and only TRUE game review-voice! Damn I missed you guys, really stoked that you're on your way to the top again!

Waw, I just happen to accidentally find this video and in it Brandon`s voice. Good to know you are all back together. This is a happy day indeed :`)
This review is a bit too short.. How could you not talk about the amazing music score done by Austin Wintory, aka the composer of Journey.
They do talk about the music. They say it's good. They also play the tracks. There's no real need to gush on it. Brevity is the soul of wit.
+Easy Allies plus I've been recipient of very generous words from Bloodworth many times, so I'm not complaining. I support a concise review :)
The man himself! Congrats for the awesome music in this game (and the others too!)
Oh boy.. Didn't expect Austin Wintory himself to be here, well now this is amazing, also kinda awkward at the same time lol.
Shu of the Dead is it him....?🤔

Nice! I'm really hoping to pick this game up sometime soon.
yep definitely getting that journey/ flower feel totally picking this up
Not a bad score. I've had so many times where my kids want to watch tv, and I want to play a game but haven't been in the mood to play much, but ABZU saves all of us and ends up just making everyone happy (and sleepy too).
Great looking game and it seems so relaxing at the same time
Smart promotion at the end! I'm hoping more will join up and become Patrons.
gameetrailers review
When does the diver have a Quen sign on his back?
Would love a Riptide GP Renegade review written by Blood!
totally going to check this out, looks like my jam. Sounds like it will be long enough to kill time before NMS gets here
Why didn't I know of this game earlier, this is right up my alley!
For some reason super Mario Galaxy music came into my head while listening to this
LOVED ABZU! :)
Next up (in mellow gaming sesh) is RIME :D
As someone with Thallassaphobia this game both intrigues and terrifies me.

it's on time! well done blood
Liked more than Journey tbh. But being a scuba diver might be the reason.
So peaceful
Going into my wishlist :)

Nothing beats journey imo but this game was nice
Just played it And loved it.
Whoa, this has my attention. Didn't even hear anything about this game.
do more reviews and previews
... Yes... I will listen to this. ;)

I'm not sure I get the hype on this. This is great for a free PS Plus game but I can't see myself playing through it again.
so cool!
isnt this studio owned by sony and why italian publisher publish this
505 games is one of the biggest publishers in the world for smaller/indie titles,
I don't know why they would just remake Journey. I can easily just play Journey. It isn't like its old or on some outdated console. It makes the game really unappealing.
So you'll warn us that you won't show late-game clips but won't warn us when you do use late-game clips? Makes sense.
I could've been more specific. I was eluding to the Uncharted 4 review where late-game areas were shown.
+Ben O'Donnell You sound like you want to pick a fight. You start off with such an ambiguous comment, expecting them to realize what you mean...and then you go on saying Uncharted 4.

WHERE ARE THE GAME SLUETHS, I HEAR THAT VOICE BUT SEE NO GAME SLUETH.
I really need to unsubscribe to ign... and stick to GameSpot and eza!!!
Cool,l another overrated hipster game
