Love the mother and daughter partnership
Absolutely loved this story. Family businesses that turn in to much loved institutions
I remember eating there from 2016-2018 and I was so impressed with the food and I've returned many times since leaving Austin. I'm just up the road in Waco now. Now I'm going to plan another trip just to go eat here again! Wasn't aware of the rich history and it's so cool 😎
Brings tears to my eyes to see these Mexican pastries displayed on CBS Saturday Morning
My friend zando fell asleep under the counter! 😂
This place is amazing, been going since 94
So much hard work and love went into this business, and i love the history behind it. Food looks amazing!
Wonderful, hardworking people. Family restaurants run generation after generation is hard to come by these days. Grateful for people like them bc I wouldn’t be able to do it.
This looks like such a wonderful great family. Wish I could eat there😢
Wishing them the very very best in their business and God's blessings❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I hope some good folks like them will take the tradition to the future. It's good to hear how they got recognized, and thanks to CBS Mornings for bringing them into the spotlight internationally.
Great story but the only part that got me is when they said immigrants. These people aren’t immigrants when they carry indigenous North American ancestry, when Tejas was once part of Mexico and many of the foods they cook are native to North America. How can you be an immigrant when you’re on your ancestral homelands.
Thank you! Las Americas! 🌎
I’m totally against illegal immigration. This family came to the US when there was no border, there was no immigration laws, and there was not welfare. To me these people are Americans of Mexican heritage. Coming into a country legally gives you rights, coming illegally is a crime and should not be allowed. Great story. Great family. The American dream personified.
Excellent interpretation
They're immigrants from a few hundred miles to the South. Much less far than a lot of other immigrants.
They are immigrants
So glad this place is still around, all over east Austin gentrification has closed so many small businesses and pushed out families that grew up there since the early 1900’s. Makes me happy that Joe’s is still going strong love yall
When I stopped in last December, I had no idea their backstory - I had just heard it was a great bakery. Now I wish I had done a lot more than just gotten a to-go order of cookies!
Austin born and raised. I have many memories of my parents taking me here to eat.
What a cool story. Thank you CBS
Beautiful story, thank you 🥰
As far back as I can remember I've always eaten "conchitas" and now that I'm 40 years old I still absolutely love them!!
I love their dedication to quality.
A fine example of “Do just a few things, and do them exceptionally well.”
reminds me of my town's own restaurant/bakery. opened in the 70s and became a staple for the mexican american community. last month, a fire broke out and burned a huge portion of the dining areas and bakery and they put out an update for supporters saying they don't know what the future holds. broke my heart and hope they'll be able to rebuild and reopen.
Great story. I wish you were closer.
Love this story. It makes me so proud to see a place like this run by these special ladies who represent the best of the best in our mexican culture. The rich traditions and family strength are just amazing. Que dios las bendiga siempre.
OMG looks so blasted good
Great story and legacy.
Living the American 🗽 Dream🎉🎉🎉! Awesome 👍 family history and story of success! And the food looks great🎉! Will have to make that drive and try this restaurant out🎉! Congrats 👏 from Dallas/Fort Worth! 🇺🇸🇲🇽👏💪🙏
Amazing people!! Wonderful story!!
Born n Raised in EAST AUSTIN this place is literally 2 blocks from my parents house and all my life they have never dissapointed.. TY Joe's for always bringing the good food to the "02"... and a big thanks to the daughter for taking over a legacy that she didn't really want too because it was her parents dream too keep it going you are APPRECIATED !!
For those who don't know, in those days when the great grandma came to the US, there was no border. People came and went as they pleased because Texas (the SouthWest) had been part of Mexico until The gold's found in California and the US invaded Mexico. When the border was built, it was opened and unpatrolled until the 20th century.
Thank's for the valuable information😊
Where did you get your history info? The US did not invade Mexico. It was colonists who fought Mexico in the Texas Revolution. The Republic of Texas was not even a state at that time. And The Republic of California has it's own history but also was not part of the US when it won it's independence from Mexico.
What a beautiful story. The American dream. Looks like amazing food too
😮 reward one of the best classic food in 🇺🇸 America. WOW 🤩
What an AWESOME story! How cool!
This reminds me of a bakery in my neighborhood across the street from a 24 hour laundromat. Sometimes I do my laundry at 3am just to have an excuse to get bread and coffee at 4:30 am when they open. It's a good feeling to be up and working and ready to go when the rest of the city is still asleep! 🗽🌇🗽
And the bread is still warm...😋
Nothing better than warm bakery bread!!! Ciabatta is their best (in my opinion). Enjoy!! Hope this tex mex family restaurant continues for a long long long time!!!
I want to go to Austin, just to eat there! Maybe, some day! 👍👍👍
What a legacy. 😊
Would be nice to eat there one day!!!! The food looks awesome 😊
Sounds like a great place lots of delicious food Homemade tortillas can’t beat it.
Wow what beautiful story...i am literally lol to myself right now with joy..
Im from Bakersfield ca and im going to eat there one day...
Si se puede
Im so proud of Joe's
Why give Musk any air time in the middle of this beautiful story?
For real! I would rather meet the staff. But the musk situation has really had an effect on every aspect of Austin.
Sadly. Turns out Elon is a nut job.@@TdT2211
Pulls viewership in on the algorithm.
beautiful story
They do have some good food. Plus Juan and a million. Best eats in Austin.
Beautiful story!
I'm on the other side of the country but I would love to eat there.
They are closed on Monday!
@@TdT2211 That's okay I'll never make it to that side of the country.
@@writerconsidered 😦sorry to hear that.
Added to my list thanks
Good for Joes... But the "new Austin" needs to go back to Cali!
Rose and Regina are the best! Love them both.
Way to go!!!!! No - don't close!!!!
Someone should get Keith Lee to go here
Nothing like some really good cooking to make you feel better! Nothing like jalapeño’s flavor to make a dish super good!
What an AMERICAN story...
Awesome story!
Love this story!
I’m so hungry now! #wishing
Gosh lived there for quite a few years In Austin and super close to it would always passed by and never noticed it :(
Lol I ate there a lot growing up my mom gknows that family ahh I miss Austin that's a spot to hit up
I love a successful immigrant story
Texmex is dying all over Texas, Pulidos also a 60 year chain based in ft worth just closed back in November of last year
Awesome 😎 ❤
Looks great, but do they serve Tres Leches?
Because carne guisada is only a Texas thing
😂 why doesn’t everyone make it this way. She says I don’t know 😂
Nice
Franchise it out.
DONT MESS WITH TEXAS
❤
👏👏👏👏
Arriba las Chivas!!
My momma makes carne with pork so I can have it with over easy eggs and salsa.
Oh good, no jerika or gayle.
all the new tech people ruined Austin - its not weird, its just expensive. all the tech bros should leave
Did the Great Grandmother immigrate legally?
Are you legal?
She’s not alive, so your question remains irrelevant
@@codename495 she illegal
AUSTIN - wake up and dont become LA!! Save this business and deal with the crime!
Place isn’t anything special
Mexican baked goods always taste like the smell of wet dog. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stupidly been fooled into trying them and it’s always bad.
Well, perhaps you shouldn’t eat them.
When tf did you eat a wet dog?
@@fartgangtv9143 Are you okay buddy?
Blah. If they wanted to feature a Tex-Mex restaurant they should have started in San Antonio or the Rio Grande Valley (RGV)…not Austin 🙄
everyone is between overweight and obese jeez
Why are Americans scared of people that want to come to America to help america for work americans don't want to do?
LMFAO help who
That family is so American, you would never believe it. No matter how many people told scared people.
@@TdT2211 keep worshiping saitain!
@@Enoch33 keep being a hypocrite.
@@Enoch33 LMAO ummmmm. Okkkkkkkkay.
I ate here many, many times in my childhood. 🥹 So many good memories- great food!
You don't have a right to say American don't want to work! "Speaking for my B1 families my ancestors before and now, we work!". . . "Learn the whole stories and situations ". . . "Americans do work!". . .. . "Handouts, etc?". .. Favorite words:. 'Hard work' 😮🫢🤔🫢❓✅
