- For 50 years, The World of Concrete (WOC) has held its annual convention in Las Vegas. Dubbed "ComicCon for concrete guys" by Kevin Thornton, an executive at the company that runs the 700,000-square-foot event, the WOC showcases cutting-edge equipment, high-tech materials and new methods for everything concrete. Also held each year during the three-day convention is the SpecMix Bricklayer 500, a masonry competition where the "world's best mason" is crowned and celebrated with cash prizes and a new truck. Correspondent Conor Knighton pulls us into this universe.

But honestly, concrete is such an incredible material. Its modern formulation and application is one of the great revolutions of the XXth century which changed not only the way we build, but simultaneously the overall aesthetics of modernity in architecture and design.
This is so ridiculously fun! I always say that there’s always something for every one. You like concrete, I like graphic design, the world can cater to all kinds of hobbies, passions and likes. Good for you concrete lovers!

Someone said, "Hey I saw you on CBS, on Superbowl Sunday". I thought they were joking. I totally was on CBS, I'm the "cutting deals" guy, crazy!
The vast majority of people these days just walk around staring down at their phones with little to no consideration or appreciation for how our buildings & infrastructure actually get built. Meanwhile, skilled craftspeople like the ones in this video are hard at work, day in & day out, physically building & maintaining our world to make civilized life possible for the masses.
WOC is an awesome show. Much more real than CES
You used "trowels and tribulations" too early in the story for everyone to get it. And why didn't you say that the couple getting married "cemented their relationship?"

Back in the day, I really think I could have been right up there. I laid over 900 brick in 2 hours once and won a $100 dollar bet.
as a 30 year mason concrete guy member of local 3 upstate ny this is all fun but my teachers way back always said id rather you lay 4 brick right than 20 wrong dont rush speed come with time on the line....i will make you tear it down and redo it kid

Change the carbon footprint by researching ancient structures and reproducing those standing for centuries
Quarrying massive stones and transporting them across the country will definitely have a lower cost and carbon footprint than locally produced concrete.
