    Murray is the man. Love his phrasing and attention to detail. My favorite living pianist. I don't think I've heard these etudes played better. Side note: whoever tuned this piano did an impeccable job. You can really appreciate it at the beginning of the second mazurka. What a wonderful video this is.

      Especially his interpretations of the Mozart pianoconcertos have been my favourite all my life. (since the '80s)

    Murray Perahia es un célebre y legendario pianista del Siglo XX a la altura de otros extraordinarios pianistas tales como Arthur Rubinstein, Vladimir Horowitz, Sviatoslav Richter, Cláudio Arrau, Emil Gilels, Lazar Berman, etc. La ejecución de la Balada y el Scherzo resultó magnífica, además de las otras obras.     There's absolutely nothing customary and far beyond perfection in what one might good consider a good performance. Perahia is a supreme master.

    I don’t even know which Scherzo is my favorite . All 4 Scherzos are FROM THE ALMIGHTY GOD because I view them to be extremely special. Chopin Chopin Chopin what a GIFT to this world. I grew up listening to Andre Watts, Earl Wild, Murray Perahia, and others. I have always had high regards for Mr. Perahia

    LOVE LOVE this musician...I SAW HIM LIVE IN Toronto CANADA WHERE I was a piano major at the University of Toronto. It was in Massey Hall...and I was in third row...so here walks in this diminutive man with his then long black poage boy hairstyle....I WEPT throughout his programme

    I read somewhere a few years ago that the Great Horowitz had a chat with Murrayy AND INVITED Him ...nay...URGED HIM TO ATTACK THE LARGER WAR HORSE PIECES IN THE piano repertoire....WOAH...that means Horo must have been listening and following MURRAY

    Many thanks for posting this - I love Perahia - does he even play any more?
    I remember watching a documentary with this recital where he was choosing pianos and was visited backstage by Garrick Ohlsson - do you have this as well?

      I don't know what his current situation is; his website doesn't show any current concert activity or recent recordings; he's still listed on IMG Artists roster, but again, there doesn't appear to be any current activity. As for the documentary you mention, sorry, I don't have it - I've never even seen it.

    Murray Perahia is perhaps the greatest pianist who ever lived, though one would have to go back in time and listen to Franz Liszt in person to know for sure.

      Really? Why must someone be a Nah sayer? These pieces were well played. Where were the rush? These Etudes and the Scherzo are virtuosic pieces and needs to be performed as such

      @@user-bo9ch7vs7z No need to play better , or at all , for that matter. You can make a constructive criticism without being a pianist. If you sit at a table that has one leg short , you don't need to be a carpenter to point out that the table is wobbly .However, people with little knowledge criticise easily and superficially.

    He can't count to four. Wow. The tied bars of whole note measures in the 4th Scherzo. Unacceptable. Unnerving early entrances.

    He started out very good with an interesting take but it soon sounded continental, lacking the feel of a Polish dance, just unauthentic sounding, and towards the end, he rushed things and it didn't sound musical at all. He knows Mozart a little better than he does Chopin.

    What a terrible shame - an otherwise beautiful performance of the E major Scherzo marred by long note values cut short, some considerably so. Listen to 26'06", 26'21", 26'25", 27'24" and 27'40". And don't even try to respond with 'interpretetive freedom.' The man simply stopped feeling the pulse at these key moments. On the other hand, do try to respond with 'let's see you do better.' Which I can.
