Amazing job on the plastics! I love that metallic blue look. Very tastefully done and a bike that'll be usable. I'm curious to see what you get up to with that. Did you find out what the sound in the engine was? I owned a couple Wave 110i's which have the same engine. Neither sounded this rattly. I hope it's just the cam chain tensioner. I've done a full rebuild on my Wave 125i which is similar inside. On mine the gearbox input shaft bearing collapsed making a horrible noise. Luckily these engines are quite basic and not as scary to rebuild once get start working on them. Given: you have good instructions. I just ordered pretty much every moving part with standard sizes from Thailand. Good luck with the fancy blue Super Cub.
Thank you for your support Tom! In all honesty, after some use and oil changes, the noise disappeared. My assumption is that the top end was bone dry on that initial start-up. The goal of this build was to use it on an upcoming postie bike rally, but my schedule got in the way of me attending, so I ended up parting ways with this bike. As far as I know, the lovely lady that took it off my hands did the rally I was planning to take it on, so in a way.. Goal achieved.. I guess. 🤷🏻♂️
Wow, that's great to hear. I hope it'll last her as long as she wants to use the bike. These very pretty solid designs. To me, Honda motorcycles and Toyota cars have in common that they give you a ton of notice when a component is failing. In the case of my Wave, I had a gearbox whine in 4th gear for 55,000km (probably some tolerance issue). The first hints of knocking from that bearing were only at cold start after sitting for a long time, 15,000km before it became constant on a ride into the outback. On the return trip and last ride before the rebuild, I thrashed it on the M3 from Sunshine coast back to Brisbane, doing 110kmh in some stretches.
100% agree with you there. Honda are definitely a reliable bike that can take some punishment! The trips on that Wave must have been a laugh. Sadly not common in Aus/NZ. I genuinely feel there would be a market fotlr that class of bike!
