I have a weird question and I can't seem to find an answer for it ANYWHERE hahaha hmmm so a lot of my Hoyas grow tendrils, as Hoyas do. Thing is, often times the tip of the tendril will dry, and thus stop growing. I don't think it's a watering issue, since the leaves seem fine when that happens, and there's general growth happening. Also, a lot of the itty bitty tiny leaves that grow on these tendrils eventually fall. So I'm a bit puzzled (and I don't beat up my Hoyas or swing them around, if you wondered ;) ) You might have answered that in one of your videos, I haven't skimmed all of them yet as I'm a new fan of yours! :)
I have a Hoya carnosa - cutting from my mom's plant. She has a really old one and I noticed that both have leaves that come out with defects. By that I mean that is has in indentation from very early on and in grows in an odd shape. Not every leaf is like that and it seems to be doing fine in general, but is it something that just happens or can I do something about it? Thank you. Hugs for Romania :)
Oh, I also have another question! I have a few Hoyas and none of them as ever bloomed, ever... I know they need good lighting to bloom and all, but perhaps you have other tricks or tips on how to encourage them to bloom?
It is so frustrating when I think a pot will fit and then it's like 95% in 😂 Or even worse, when they fit so snuuuuuugly inside and you can never take them out again 😂
ugh, yes. I went and bought some coverpots (from Ikea) to re-pot my office ficus on friday. I got 2 sizes and one is about 1cm too small and the other is HUGE. Always a problem.
Omg! I ended up on your video after searching RUclips for information on Flat Mites on Hoyas but your discussion on cover pots for grow pots is so relevant!!!! 😫😭 It drives me crazy trying to find grow pots that fit my very standard size grow pots!!! Why do they make them in such different sizes!!! Someone needs to make a shop like you said that sells both that fit each other perfectly! I would give them all my money! Lol! I’m glad I’m not the only one with this problem though. The pot struggle is real! 😂
Hi Miro, I'm located in Germany and I have the hardest time finding nice matching caché pots. I try not to have plastic so when I find a pot I like I have the next problem that ceramic pots are not water tight at the bottom and I need a maching saucer or plate to catch the humidity that travels through the pot. To save my wooden shelves I finally came up with the idea to use mirror tiles under my ceramic cachés, they don't look stupid and even enhance the light. (I don't know if that really has an effect, but it looks good, when the light hits the mirror ;D) Love your rambling. I always enjoy your videos and learn new things all the time. Stay safe and healthy everyone!
Thanks so much for talking about the red false spider mites! They’re such a problem in my area on Hoyas and it’s a constant battle. Because there’s never webbing, just the damaged growth and growth points
I saw your comment on one of Knot Dude's recent videos about using sulphur based fungicide for those annoying red mites, so I did it a couple of days ago! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us :)
Hi Miro, thanks for answering so many good questions. I found some webs on my plant and feared the worst, but it was a harmless small spider, which I don’t mind as it keeps my plant pest free. That plant is his home now.
Ahhh, thanks for answering my question Miro! And yes, the inner pot-outer pot-trellis ratio is truly a never-ending struggle. Finding ones that fit each other is like a jackpot haha!
I’m in the same boat in regards to not being able to finding cover pots the correct size to be flush with my inner pots here in America. It’s quite frustrating!
YESS! It's impossible to find cover pots that match when you buy them sepperately! Especially when the cover pot is somehow decorative. Also love this convention, please keep it up. You have huge knowledge. Please keep sharing it, Miro! ALSO WHAT IS WITH SWEDISH PEOPLE AND HOYAS? Is Sweden the Mekka of all hoyas? xD Did they exclusively travel to Borneo? Or is it some ecological thing???
@@BasiePlants ahahahahaha I guess I have them on some of hoyas, have to check with you cotton SWAB system 😄😄😄 My sweet old dog is in pain, it's hard to walk when you are old so we are little sad but it's ok... I asked her long time ago if she aloud me to keep her forever, just like that Betsy's fox and she said yes 🐾 Little creepy little cute but sad for all that nice fur to be wasted, right?! 😅😅😅
You can also get those plastic pots in the chinese stores. I get my pots from those stores and at the market place you have plastic pots and sometimes you have people who make ceramic pots of all sizes and shapes.
I always have an excess of both outer pots and inner pots because a lot of them don’t work together so you are DEFINITELY not alone. looks like there’s a market we can tap into….😉
Problem with trellising is that I allowed my Hoya to grow without a trellis then after the growth and attaching to other Hoya creating those tight spirals- I try to put on a trellis without the leaves being upside down.
Yes! That happens as well. There are times when it's quite hard to stay on top of trellising all of them xD And the next thing you know, you have vines going through your rack shelves... and leaves growing 😬
Talking about spider mites. I thought I have spider mites in all my (numerous) plants. But by the end, after months/years, I think it's not spider mites but I still don't know what it is, since I don't find anything written about it: I have no mites on or under the leaves but in all pots on the suil's surface (and in all my hoyas!) there are one, two or three little brownish spiders (so way bigger that what I know now should a spider mite look like) big enough that I can see them running away each time I'm watering or misting. I can even catch them with my fingers. I couldn't find any information about such little soil spines. If I don't mist the top of the substrate quickly enough they let a web on parts of the soil's surface (that seems to be clearly different to spider mites's web). Do you or anyone know about this??
Yes, rabbit fence is also coated with plastic. I didn't try to seal the ends though :) I think hot glue sometimes can fall off. I also thought of silicone, but I am not sure what long term effects would be on the environment in the pot. It would be ideal if there were some kind of... rubbery "slippers" for the ends of our trellises 😂
I have never seen them here. I usually buy the ones in the video. They are from .85 - 2.5 euros, depending on the size. Usually, around 1 euro for hoyas. But when you have 160 hoyas... It adds up 😂
@@BasiePlants Yep, that is why I have everything in ugly reused plastic pots with petunia stickers on them and just a tray. Not aesthetically pleasing but low budget. I couldn't be bothered.

What questions would you like answer to?
What different mediums work best with different varieties of Hoya? For example: H. rosita vs. H. Mitrata vs. H. Imperialis?
Would hoyas be fine on a moss pole? Same kind of trellis but filled with sphagnum. Or, thinking out loud, barks ?

You can coat the base of you treillis where the metal is exposed with bee wax ;) it will protect the metal from the water

Oh really? Orchid pots are taller here, so they never fit. But also, these cover pots are kind of short. I wish they would make them taller!

For spider mites I use a table spoon of bleach dilute d in a gallon of water works awesome and plants are fine in my experience.
I make trellises with wire coated with plastic, then seal the ends with hot glue and hope that they won’t go rusted in semi-hydro :)
Oh smart, I will try with hot glue on the ends

I thought spider mites attacked the new growth because it was tastier.
