from a novice wood worker ,why do you need to make a joint with a tennon ? why not just make the hole big enought for the wood to slide in as it is? surely it would be just as strong?
ross white that would be a housing joint and due to the fact you need to remove so much timber to set the rail in, you would weaken the stile. The is also more potential for the frame to go into winding.
