Word of the day: Apocalypse - Derived from the latin root words "Apo" meaning un, and "Koluptein" meaning cover, Apocalypse was originally meant to mean not the end of the world or the end of society, but rather the end of deception; The revealing of truth, and uncovering of all that was previously unknown. Thus apocalypse and revelation are two words borne of the same ilk.
Health Cookie #13: Substance use is a tricky one to talk about. Even though you could, theoretically, separate alcohol and cigarettes from weed and classify marijuana as the "healthier" substance to use, it's still possible for you to abuse it, hell, you're even likely to abuse it (Health Cookies 14 and 15 are written on the topics of alcohol and tobacco, respectively). It's extraordinarily addictive for thought of the euphoria and focus it provides you with. While not as biologically destructive as the former two substances, marijuana is extraordinarily disruptive psychologically speaking, just as Caffeine can be. One cup of coffee is a tremendous boon to your productivity and can really boost your day, just like one puff of a joint can help you to focus on a creative project and stimulate new ideas within you. But who's out here drinking only one cup of coffee, or taking only one puff of a joint per day? Both substances tend to cascade their own usage, and drive your brain toward an increased consumption. Your brain is like that, the neurotransmitter and hormone called dopamine (Health Cookies 17 and 18 can provide you with more insight into how dopamine works) might have helped spur our evolution, but it can also be weaponized against you, to induce your personal devolution. This is the real risk associated with addiction: The problem isn't the substance itself, rather it's how your brain gradually rewires itself and demands ever-increasing quantities of that substance.
This is the best modus operandi I've found throughout my years, regarding substance use: Substance use only becomes substance abuse when you either don't have any plans to stop using it, or when you can't place limitations upon your usage of it. My wife and I used to buy an ounce of weed twice a year and partake in a couple months of shameless indulgence, and I'd even smoke cigarettes during that time. But I know that I can't live like that without beginning to spiral eventually, so we don't do that anymore. I always do intermittent fasting, take cold showers and have some Carnivore diet days, but I would also do those things even during the time periods when I was allowed to have weed and cigarettes; I promoted the wellness of my body and mind, even when - or rather, especially when I'd engage in substance abuse habits that were counterproductive toward my wellness. If you've drank alcohol every day for the past six months, or smoked a cigarette (or many cigarettes) every single day, or smoked weed every day, etc, then you may need to consider that it's no longer just a casual hobby or habit, but rather a huge problem that is gradually creeping around the corners of your psychological constitution, slowly sabotaging and eroding your capacity for introspective growth and discipline, to ever-increasing extents each day.
Trust me, I know how hard it is to quit substances and get clean after years of being dirty. I'm health conscious now because I used to be apathetic about it, smoked weed for years on end, abused alcohol in high school to a significant degree, etc. Learning to quit substances is no different than learning to hop into a cold shower every day: When faced with the question of "Do I feel comfortable enough to do this?", you just say "Fuck it, I don't need to feel well enough to do it. I'm going to do it anyway, and suffer through it with dignity, because that's what discipline is." Irony is, after quitting substances you gradually begin feeling significantly better afterwards, because those substances turned out to be the very thing that was holding you down and limiting your mental framework. Just like stepping into a cold shower: Sure, you don't feel like doing it. But you'll be damn glad you've done it, after it's done.

If I make it that far, I'll post coordinates. I'm worried my interest in this game will fizzle out before I finish the story LOL

I've been catching up on this series... Does someone in chat explain the very large difference between a solar system and a galaxy at some point? I feel like a space explorer should know that.... 😁
