InlineSix yeah the only thing I can really compare the mink oil finish/consistency to is petroleum jelly. Although it does eventually seep into the leather, it does take longer than the all natural leather conditioner to be absorbed. InlineSix yeah the only thing I can really compare the mink oil finish/consistency to is petroleum jelly. Although it does eventually seep into the leather, it does take longer than the all natural leather conditioner to be absorbed. Unless you really work in the mink oil with your body heat (I also use my hand whenever I apply mink oil) it will leave a waxy coating. While the all natural conditioner will nearly immediately be absorbed.
@@lettersndnumbers Yeah, I let my boots sit over night with the mink oil then I give them a buffing. The 3341s I own look great after a mink oil session.
It’s too bad RW didn’t put the logo on the wallet. I like the RW name though. I am glad you featured it b/c I’m curious about their other leather goods.
Tarek Dhanani I heard the folding wallet bends your credit cards 💳
That would have been a nice touch. I have been pleased with the card holder since it has broken-in.
CJ really enjoy your channel, what conditioner would you recommend for the redwing 8085 iron ranger copper, mine are about ready for some and I don’t want to mess them up, I would value your opinion greatly. Man you are a for real redwing junkie, starting to get addicted to them myself
If you don't want to change the color use Leather Conditioner. Thank you for your support
Wow thank you for replying so quickly, I was afraid of using oil because as you know the 8085 are kinda two tone in color, I will definitely go with the conditioner, thanks for the advice!
Amber Harness IRs look wicked cool! Great video!
Thank you!
CJ Cook ... interesting, how the colors differ. my amber harness are looking more like your ebony harness merchant... ok, i literally soaked them in leather oil. but also b4 they were much darker than yours. have yours always been that "lighter" brown?
from the picture I would have guessed they are copper RnT
Have you had any recent issues with Benjos? Ordered laces 12/18 they charged my card sent me a shipping confirmation and never shipped. They are not returning emails and there is no phone number on their website.
No, nothing too crazy - - I have placed 3 orders with them at different times. The second order took a long time to arrive with no shipping confirmation and the third time was smooth. I am sorry you are having a bad experience with them...that's a problem.
Hey Timothy, any luck getting a hold of Benjos?
Did your order appear?
CJ Cook yes it actually came yesterday
@@timothyrake Good, glad to read!
Yo, my dude, sorry but I don't think you mentioned what soap you used? I'm new to the heritage line and super stoked about them so I want to make sure I have all the right care products. Subbed to your channel couple months back, love it!
Peace
Jake from Boston!
Hey Jake, I use the Red Wing Foam Leather Cleaner. I fill the cap twice with the cleaner and drop it in very warm water.
@@CJCook thanks for the quick reply CJ! Appreciate it! Take care brother
Jake St.Germaine it looks like he used the foam leather cleaner
@@lettersndnumbers yes, cool thanks man
Best is saddle soap famaco is one of the better european brands
I used obenauf's on my boots definitely darkened them, I think the red wing oils work best. Great video 👌
Thank you!
I'mma get this same set up
Do RUclips content creators have to disclose in their videos whether or not they're being paid by a sponsor? This video definitely makes me wonder about that (don't get me wrong, I like Red Wing, but still, how does sponsorship disclosure work?)
Yes, they do
WTf blue laces, I don't know.
Yeah those laces look terrible for those beautiful boots
Purple
Does it matter if you get mink oil on the metal eyelets?
No, not a big deal
CJ Cook doing so doesn't discolor them?
@@Ferien7 nope, never had that issue.
I have Redwing mink oil paste. Is that the same as your Redwing mink oil?
I imagine it uses a similar formula. On the website the Mink Oil paste lives under the Irish Setter page for 8.99$ and the Mink Oil lives under the Heritage page for 9.99$. The Mink Oil paste maybe tailored to the Irish Setter leathers vs. The Heritage leathers. Which ingredients are on the back of the tin?
@@CJCook the heritage Brand is different, called leather conditioner. It has beeswax and pine pitch. Waterproofs better and you are supposed to get away with conditioning less often.
I love the look that mink oil gave. Considering the same for my amber harness Merchants.
Did the color lighten back up after a few wears or did it stay darker (what I’d prefer)?
They darkened slightly which I did not mind.
Have you tried obenaufs?
No, I have not.
Other reviews show obenaufs turning the leather very dark. Much darker than this mink oil.
Dang TJ, how many pairs of boots do you own dude? I would go broke if I tried to purchase half of the ones I've seen you review here on RUclips, lol. What are your top three R.W. boots? I know you love those Beckman's :)
I am afraid to say how many Red Wing I own. Hahaha! I can't do top 3. I can do top 5!
@@CJCook okay, I'm waiting in suspense for you to list the top (5) then, lol. And please in orser of ranking. Thx CJ & Happy New Year!
@@WatchTrader-REI-Acquisitions Hahaha! Yes, I have been thinking about it. I have shot some of it already...then I had a change of mind about the order so I had to rethink a few things, standby please
Your mink oil doesn't darken to bad the store use a liquid those darken the leather by 3-4 shades
Such a beautiful look on an old school boot! Im getting these for my next boot!
Nice video, you helped me to not feel bad for buying a second pair of iron rangers. Did you notice the spider at 4:30 in the video?
2nd pair...? YES!
Which two pairs did you purchase?
@@CJCook Black and Amber Iron rangers. Thinking about a third pair in the Hawthorne leather, they look nice.
@@got2bfrank 8113s are very VERY nice!
Mine get cleaned ever time it rains, they get conditioning when I spill engine oil in the garage an a little diesel when I fill the truck, they last longer.
Boots are looking great
I think u used way too mutch Mink oil, it makes them Shine but the leather cant breathe that way and it s not good for the leather ask a local ( or any) cobbler 😉
Nice boots! I don’t know why I love watching boot cleaning videos. I could watch them all day. I finally got my 8083’s. They are fucking beautiful! I haven’t have a chance to wear them tho, because of work.
Thank you Mike.
Yeah, I am the same way.
The 8083s finally arrived! Awesome! I love the Hawthorne Iron Rangers they break-in really nicely. You will love them!
Potty mouth
I LOVE 👢
Your size true size or down size🙏
I size down from a 10 to an 8.5 with the Iron Rangers.
I’m a size 12 with narrow feet, a 10.5 fit me perfect
Cj Cook wow that’s a step down!
I use mink oil on all my boots
Beautiful wallet
Thank you
Have any opinions on Saphir products other than the price? Lol
I have not tried their products BUT I do like that they use natural ingredients.
i dont think it gives that much shine on my copper rough and tough
Is this a new fad, hipsters wearing old-school work boots? They look like the jump boots I wore in the army. Corcoran jump boots can’t be beat. They even make the brown ones there were issued during World War Two. Corcoran 1500. HH jump boots or very comfortable also.
Corcoran jump boots are VERY nice!
you should let the product absorb for a bit before you brush them
I normally do but for the sake of the video I rush the process. I usually like to let them sit overnight. For the video they sit for about 30 mins.
they look very nice. but i think they are more for hipsters who traverse the paved urban jungle. i heard they have vibram soles now. however, from what i see, they are not a "boot" you actually wear to a job site or a warehouse job. these boots are a more fashionable cubicle, pop culture, status symbol boot thats costs a shit ton
The laces 🤢🤢🤢 both pairs 🤢
Whatever you have off camera to your right, is really throwing a purple sheen on the boots all throughout the video, it's kind of distracting. The boots look nice but I like them better with the lighter color, but hey, they are your boots and you like them and that's all that really matters. Thanks for the video.
"I've been meaning to talk about my cardholder..." Have you? Oh goodie. 🙄
Get rid of the flat laces; Too old skool! You really can't beat the indestructible paracord as a substitute. If you really must use mink oil wait for a hot summer
day rub your boots with a liberal amount of oil and let your boots cook in the sun. When you re-sole consider Vibram 430; you will not be regret it!
Hi! Great video thanks... Question: if I use a hairdryer to heat up the mink oil on the boot help in any way to absorb it?
I have seen that done before. I tried it on my 3343s once. After I applied mink oil fully I took the hairdryer over the boot for about 3-4 minutes. The results were the same as if applying by hand but the leather definitely softened with the heat.
