I remember recently I ordered something that said “pre-order” in the description which usually means a long wait before the package comes but it was at my house within the week. I wondered if people expect their products so quickly that they put the preorder label there just in case people were upset with the shipping time being “too long”. I order from amazon for Christmas and maybe one other time a year for a special household item or another gift. I live in apartments though and my neighbors will have one or more new packages per day. what in gods name are they constantly ordering….i feel like they people with shopping addictions make the problem so so so much worse.
@rha600 do you see how many boxes they package and put on the conveyor belts, and the speed they demand with no work breaks? The average Amazon worker works 3 years before health complications force them to quit, and that's BY DESIGN. Amazon doesn't want employees to stick around and ask for better pay and benefits or form unions, so they break them before they're there for too long.

The irony is that there are better deals outside of Amazon... Amazon has just become a brand name for "convenience." Not necessarily "cheaper". Search the internet, including direct from manufacturer. You may be surprised that you can get better deals elsewhere. Just because it says "Amazon Pick", it's not a better or cheaper product, it's just likely that Amazon makes a better profit from that specific product when sold.
If you see something you wanna buy on amazon, check the company that sells it. They might have their own shop website or even delivery service. most of the time it will be cheaper there, AND the company that makes it will get more money.
I bought a Zojurushi bread making machine. Its price was $400. I bought it from Amazon and they sent me something that looked like it but didn’t work. Also, the box came opened like it was an old product someone had repackaged. I called Zojurushi to complain, and they told me that they didn’t sell anything on Amazon and that it must’ve been a counterfeit. Amazon had made it seem like I was buying directly from the manufacturer, when really it was some third party. Then Amazon wouldn’t process my return. I called American Express, and whaddya know? They refunded my money without demanding the item back after I accused them of fraud. Bought a bread machine off the Zojurushi website, and I haven’t been back to Amazon since.

And Unions also destroy companies because it gives workers a sense of entitlement that extends beyond fair wages and conditions and right onto "that's not my job" lack of team work. I've now worked for 3 factories that went out of business because of what the union that was enact did to cohesion. 9f all 3 times, I didn't vote for the union. My job security came feom being a value to the job.
Canada Post is on strike. They have voiced a few concerns. One is "tripping on a stick in someone's yard." How far gone d9es someone have to he that their job of walking is a hazard. That a stick is an issue. Unions create laziness. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.. I guess.
Good for them! As an 80 year old person who can no longer drive, Amazon is something I often have to go to and I hate it, I fully support their union and want for more branches to unionize.

I refuse to give Amazon any more of my money directly. Hoping for the best for employees going forward, wherever you work. Stay safe and know your worth.
what is the other option?. Give money to one of the two companies that own every mall in the country and almost everywhere in the western world who decide what shops are allowed to exist and put a huge amount of pressure on zoning laws to prevent anything is sold outside of malls ?
Couple of years back the workers at John Deere went on strike. A reporter asked one of the workers just how long could they go on fighting such a huge company. He replied, "One day longer than they can."
Exactly! They not only deserve a living wage but a THRIVING wage. I would put their job under essential work along with healthcare, waste management, and teaching. It is so important for people to get their packages and mail.

I've never worked for Amazon, but have worked in warehouses run by big corporations for 25 years and I have no doubt everything these workers are saying is 100% true.
Me too. At the large shipping company I worked for someone said that the only reason why there wasn't new people injured was because there wasn't new people. I started orientation with 7 people and I was one of two who stayed to work on. I was unemployed before being hired. I was terminated after I got sick because of cold temperatures due to electrical failure and stayed away too long.
I've worked for amazon and still do and I've worked for previous warehouse in the past and Amazon is definitely the easiest, not to mention the flexibility for your schedule is a huge plus, you hear so many negative things about amazon cause a lot of lazy people work there since amazon doesn't do interviews, anyone can basically work there.
I hear $30/hr and at first I think its ridiculous, but then I remember that they $15/hr min wage fight has been going on so long that $25/hr is the equivalent now. If you think that $15/hr is too much let me remind you that it's only $2,400/month before taxes and deductions, and the average rent is $1,500/month now.
I had the same shock, I live in South Africa, that salary would be A LOT more than the average engineer / doctor / actuary / lawyer can hope to make. Everything can keep rising in price, if salaries help support that need. Desperation does not look good on anyone, and does something to everyone.
Why do you stop there at monthly? Go ahead and do the yearly calculation, because some people only see big number and think "Wow, that person is making 2400 a month, what is that like 50000 a year?" I've seen it happen, even one of them out of touch boomer news casters did it. $28,800 per year after taxes and deductions. Thats how much someone is making per year at a minimum of 40 hours per week.
I personally organized and staged a unionized walk out for my warehouse in Idaho. I left a week after felling unheard and I’m unrecognized by Amazon. I was working for 19/ hr, and my DSP believed that I was trying to organize against them. Partners with Amazon are bullied into place with strict standards and low pay and since being partners is so lucrative no one wants to jeopardize that in the interest of fairness. Loyalty to the workers is dead in corporations. Unions have to resurrect it and show them they are nothing without us.
I worked in an Amazon distribution center, and shipping center for 2 years, and can attest to the truth. The statements made by these employees are so true. Lots of injuries from overworking and overwhelming stress on the body and mind. During "peak season" you can expect to be forced to work 6, 12 hour days for at least the 5 week period covering Thanksgiving, through Christmas and New Years. If you don't, you're fired.
Everyone who wants should only be required to work 8-5 or 9-5 Monday through Friday. Corporate executives should be required to do all the work on Saturdays Sundays and overnights.
Okay, why don’t they go get a better job? I understand unions in skilled trades. They have leverage because of how long it takes to train someone. It takes 5 minutes to show someone how to tape a box and move it to a bin. I don’t see this ending well for the employees.
It does not, automation is going to happen and has been happening for the past two hundred years. If workers unionizing would speed up technological progress, then people would be all for it. But the rate of technological progress is not affected by whether or not workers are unionized or the rate, their jobs will be replaced by robots in the grand scheme of things, because that requires technology to mature to that place
Tbh amazon is always hiring, especially this time of the year. They will be lucky if seasonal workers don't take their jobs. Go find another job and move on.
" Amazon is a trillion-dollar company, reaching a market capitalization of $2 trillion for the first time on June 26, 2024". And treat employees like shit😡
Yes it’s a 2 trillion dollar company but look where he started and where he is now this what’s great about America start from the bottom and to the top we all have opportunities to do something and start a business but y’all rather just work and not put the work in to something else and about taxes that’s great we all shouldn’t pay taxes start you a business and you can do the same thing write stuff off for your business
A lot of companies that reach the top like that usually do that with a ton of exploitation. And the richer you get the more you can get away with by paying it off.
Imagine working at a hospital as part of the critical staff. I have worked 110 hours last pay period, and it was due to call outs of people that think they deserve the time off, I'm expected to miss every holiday that doesn't fall on a weekend. In reality, I couldn't see myself doing anything else because literally thousands of people depend on me🎉
Thank you for what you do, first and foremost. I will say though, I am not even mad at the people who think they deserve time off lol. I would be one of them. We are allowed to take breaks. We can't be letting these systems and corporations enslave us from the inside out. Too overly-loyal. Sure, caretaking for human lives in a hospital setting is needed. I understand that, but the truth of the matter is many of us, our lives are too dominantly controlled by the schedules and demands of these corporate structures. They are usually speaking the language of money, pro-formas and bottom lines, while the laborers are busy trying to "koom-by-yah" instead of reclaiming their power as both an employee and a human being.
I was a delivery driver for Amazon for 4 months and in those 4 months, I got truckers knee and runners knee and after shifts I would sometimes limp over to my dispatch. I also tried being a warehouse worker, but only lasted 4 days before I quit and said never again. Running down isles putting packages that are on carts in bags and trying to manage each isle, sifting through packages and running to the cart it goes to, and the one that made me quit mid shift was separating hundreds of packages per minute into “A” or “B” on the assembly line while standing in place for hours on end. At the first 15 minute break, I tried to walk forward but my legs were completely stuck straight and I almost fell over. The hours for delivery were 11am-9pm but you can go home early if you finish early, and for the warehouse it was 1am-11am with two 15 min breaks and a 30 minute lunch break.
Runner's knee after 4 months?! I have empathy for you as a fellow driver and of course well done for even doing it for 4 months considering many people do not even last beyond the first week lol but wow, you must not have been in shape or your body was not used to that kind of physical exertion if that is all that it took. I was a competitive long distance cross country and track and field runner for like 6 years, so to me Amazon delivery is a walk in the park physically. To me, it's the psychological process of staring at 380 packages and getting out of a vehicle 200 times a day that is actually more of a slight challenge to me. I agree with you about warehouse. To me, the warehouse is excruciating. No way, not for me. Very much so prefer to be outside driving than in a warehouse like that. I am not waking up at odd ball hours to stand at a warehouse all night.
@@AnomalyBelleza haha I’m actually in decent shape. I’m not overweight or underweight, just average. I’ve done many physical labor jobs like construction for a few years, I’ve worked at the busiest tire shop in the state constantly lifting tires and wheels, etc. I also had 200 stops a day, and I ran to every doorstep and back because at my DSP if you finish early, you still get paid the same amount and get to go home early. I was too poor to go to the doctor so I’m not sure if it runners knee or truckers knee, but considering that I was running so much and driving so much I just figured it was either or both, but thinking about it I guess it was truckers knee because it was my right knee that hurt badly.

I don't use Amazon, but expecting most people to never online shop is a big ask, especially if you need speciality items. I'm not a big consumer, but I get about 6 packages a year. I always choose the slowest delivery option to be kind to workers and the planet.
Amazon has monopolized shopping. Not just online but all shopping. They sell everything. A lot of stuff when you go to buy youre redirected to Amazon. Theyre making it so you have no choice but to buy from them.

I worked for a dirty warehouse for a company that practically owns the whole town. They deliver linen to hotels and hospitals. The linen is dirty af as it’s stepped on, machine dirt gets on it, it falls on the floor and still gets packed because workers get $15.61 and don’t gaf. You have to keep your productivity score at 85% all day or you’re scolded like a child because managers and everyone can see your score. I worked out 5days a week and only took bathroom breaks at lunch. I was constantly in the red with a low score because their machines from 1950😂 would get clogged and you’d have to stop. You couldn’t log out and save your score. So by the time a mechanic fixed it your score went down. Then jackazz mangers would move you around which lowered your score and you had to sort in huge bins the correct linen to feed the machine and that would slow you down. You also were pulling wet, tangled sheets and blankets out of bins. You had to be fast af and never stop in order to keep at 85%. No surprise everyone I started with 4 people quit/fired in 1 week of me being there. I can’t wait for that place to burn. It’s dust af and it will be all over your eyelashes. No window. No a/c is allowed and it get 100• in the spring. Workers would cough from all the dust and machines would jam because we couldn’t be fast enough. I hope all their workers quit because Amazon in building right across from them

This is one of those solid arguments no one will even mention. I'm tired of these people flat out laughing at people who want honest pay. These companies have insane profit margins and the pay at the bottom stays the same. A company that has record profits should be forced into an evaluation by the government on spending. The fact I still see advertising for Amazon but the entire workforce is negative is just asinine. People quit constantly. Those of us that stuck around were left to do our work and the work of those who left. Easy part was getting through Peak compared to after Peak when you get questioned for not performing scheduled maintenance tasks for 2 months straight. Those questioning the lack of maintenance mention nothing of the 16 hour shifts you pulled to keep the building running. It's a claw to the top environment. This problem is not new just getting bigger with Monopolies like Amazon. Years ago I worked for a Burger King all but me and one other employee showed up on a Friday, it was the 2 of us and a manager. To run the entire restaurant, this was in the 80s when sales were Good! We held the ship together until 3 tour buses showed up dumping over 100 customers on us plus the normal drive through and regular walk-ins. I told the manager I wanted at least 3x the pay because I was doing the work of 6 people! The pore girl up front was only 16 and had to leave at 8pm due to working laws. He said he couldn't pay me more than the current minimum of $2.85 (80s law) I said I'm leaving if he doesn't call the owner and get permission to raise my pay for the night. Nope I walked out. The next day I came to work as scheduled the owner was there he wasn't happy because of what the manager said I did that was a Lie! I explained myself and he just said get to work. He couldn't fire me for being reliable and leaving when nobody showed up because of a concert the rest went to instead of working. No he didn't pay me because I refused to finish the shift. Now companies are making record profits by encroaching on those rights. Americans had to organize, sacrifice, “complain” and fight to have those rights. That’s the difference between a worker and a lackey- we have terms and they have to be defended.

I lived an hour's commute away, so when this happened, I'd get a total of 3-4 hours of sleep. THAT'S how accidents/injuries happen (two on the line, and two car accidents from falling asleep at the wheel). No human should be forced to work that much just to live.
@@catharinetarquinio6614 hospitals can say there’s liability to the patient but once again, your body wasn’t designed to handle the load of shit that there’s put on. However, Amazon has no damn liability like they’re not making sense at all
I'm not. I only buy from Amazon like 2-4 times a year. I use my mom's prime account if I can't find what I'm looking for anywhere else or if I'm desperate for the cheapest. It makes me cringe how much more I'm spending buying in person and at small shops, but I would feel worst if I regularly contributed to the suffering of Amazon workers.
I’m not. I’ve only ordered a total of 2 orders from Amazon, and one of them was for a friend who is unbanked and didn’t have a way to pay for an online order
The people working to make sure everyone gets their present to have a great Christmas and what do they get more work. I think everything that is not essential should be shut down for a few days around Christmas. Heck the grocery stores close to part time on Christmas I think we can do without a delivery or two for a few days.
This sounds exactly like working in retail/a big box store during the holidays, it sucks no doubt. I wish I could've gotten overtime hours back in those days, as they punish you if you go into overtime at most places... Overtime is a blessing to those who accept it, and can't legally be forced to my understanding. But what do I know after working mostly hourly for 20 years 🤷♂️
I’m an Amazon driver and have to go to work soon. They give us Insane numbers of packages, no extra pay, expect us to help other drivers after our routes. I don’t mind delivering, I’ve done it for 5 years now part time through college, but Amazon does not give a cats hoo-ha about us.
As someone who is a commercial driver and averages ten hours a shift each week throughout the year I totally support these Amazon workers. I had an understanding of the conditions in my field of LTL P&D but that was my choice and I find it better than working in a factory for half of the salary. These workers are having to deal with a large number of small parcel deliveries in primarily residential areas; amplified in the holiday season they’re easily doing more labor than what they’re being compensated for; then not to mention the fact the warehouses are incredibly busy and dangerous for those who aren’t on the road making deliveries. This is an important moment for organized labor in this country that the workers at this Amazon location win their strike. I don’t see them getting reduced hours but increased payment, and benefits should be absolutely essential for them when tasked with the demands of the workload. Solidarity!
It's not just Amazon's fault. People forget that the customer base is just as much at fault. The amount of times that I've heard people say "I just want my same or next day delivery" is crazy. That's why it's like this, they have no incentive to be different.
Customers are paying for Prime. They are not wrong to expect the service they paid for. Amazon made big promises and took everyone's money and wants to lay all the bullshit at the feet of their workers.
Good for these workers! Unions are definitely NOT "unconstitutional". Unions often are the only way to get fair conditions, since many companies sadly won't do it on their own - prioritizing profit over safe conditions, reasonable hours, fair wages/benefits, and more. More locations should unionize and the company should most definitely come to a halt for Christmas Day.
If you go and apply at Amazon warehouse, or delivery, you know exactly what you’re getting into. You know you’re going to miss birthdays, holidays, and be subject to oppressive bosses. They signed up for this
if it is the most profitable period (and it is), I don't understand why they just can't hire more people and/or offer higher voluntary pay. it's not like christmas is a new phenomenon, it literally happens every year, at the same time, the same way. They could have a legion of "reserve" workers that only come in during busy periods, that way they only need minimum retraining. they could've had such a system for years now. if the military where people are relied upon to literally go to war can have such a system work, why can't people who scan boxes and move things not?
If I'm not mistaken the average amount of time a amazon associate lasts is around 3 months. That means they have a 400% turnover rate per year, typically made up of new hires that quit, ghost, Time off task out, or get a final written. They absolutely do not need a reserve worker force. They can't even keep enough people to run in the "slow" times

It's always the frontline workers who are treated the worst. Grocery stores are notorious for forcing you to work weekends and holidays. When I worked at Walmart, I missed just about every single holiday with my family for 3 years in a row. I put up with it because everyone just accepted the fact that customer service employees at grocery stores are expected to work holidays. And Walmart is the worst when it comes to union busting, they will shut down a store before it gets unionized, and tank the lawsuits. I couldn't get any other job, and had bills to pay. I was so lonely and depressed, it felt like I didn't have a family anymore. The pay was shit, and the work was soul crushing.

Amazon's treatment of their workers, of them driving small businesses out of business with predatory pricing, means I am no longer an amazon customer. No Prime, No Audible, No Whole Foods, No Zappos, no Abe Books.
Yeah really iam driver and we get the worst end of it they literally dump all the shit on us they should really put a cap rate on how much workload they give a driver it's not like your getting more pay all they do is give u more work for the same amount of pay
@juanescalante9972 I am in absolute agreement with you. After three injuries throughout the one year I worked for Amazon, and almost becoming homeless during my second occurrence, I had no choice but to throw in the towel. With no legitimate healthcare benefits, a truly pathetic payrate in addition to no overtime pay, downright insulting workplace policies, excruciatingly painful work hours/shifts, consistent workload increases without fail and no hope of change in sight; at my exit, I knew that I was making the right call. I will never go back to Amazon. Not even as a last resort. Period.

Without unions and other guardrails in place, companies just race each other to the bottom to make the worst possible conditions for their employees.
I got rid of Amazon from my life and then online shopping altogether. I couldn’t be better off as a result.
i tried but things i wanted were not available in my area. i was forced to drive around to find it and its not good because i pay for my gas. its just easier and cheaper to buy it online
There are some great brands you can only get online like Community Clothing & Bennington Potters.
@Dominik7T H.E.B., Walmart, Target 🎯 Michael's, Harbor Freight, ANY auto parts store AutoZone, Pep Boys, O'Reilly's, Pet Smart, Petco, really ANYTHING a body could possibly NEED (notice I said "need", not "want".
We need competition.
Why do we keep working for these corporations again?
I know it's to get money to pay bills, but even that is barely happening now. Why are we going to these jobs that are not supporting us to live comfortably in the richest nation on the planet?
What happened to the pension? Oh yeah, that got changed into a 401K instead so it will be your fault when it doesn't work.

except you dont even know amazon. only 40% of its revenue comes from warehouse sales. the rest is 3rd party services, subscriptions, advertising, cloud based services.
I hope all their workers quit because Amazon in building right across from them
Christmas was already ruined, Amazon said hold my beer.

Amazon gets richer, DSP owners get wealthier, and the drivers get poverty wage!
"We just want 30$/hour" If that sounds unreasonable to any boomers listening, just remember that your first paper route in the late 60's payed roughly the same wage, adjusted for inflation. That's still barely 50k/year and these folks are in New York, famously *slightly more expensive* than American baseline.
Omg yes!!!! I watched a movie from 1941 where a man and his child paid $10 for TWO WEEKS ✌️ of room AND board! A room, PLUS 3 meals / day for TWO ✌️, $10 for 2 weeks. I decided to Google what $10 in 1941 would be equivalent to in 2024....$217.55 !

So you must not buy from many companies at all

I wasn't that shocked about the holiday work and "mandatory overtime" -- that's just what big businesses only motivated by profit are like. But I WAS very shocked to hear that Amazon accounts for _53%_ of injuries and deaths in the warehouse industry! That's _atrocious!!_ This is making me really think seriously about putting in the effort to source my online shopping from anywhere BUT Amazon -- I don't want to support working conditions like this.
They will spend millions on a youtube pop up but can't make the people with families feel secure financially.
Get it Amazon workers, you deserve a fair union contract.

Worked in robotics and automation (controls) in a fulfillment center through 4 "Peak" seasons that churned out over 1,000,000 packages in 24 hours over and over again with a building only designed to push 850,000 in 24 hours. Low level area managers plotting and positioning themselves for those coveted admin jobs where they bark orders from their home remote office. It all ties in. Cut throat corporate behavior is the fastest way to get promoted. While these managers with bachelor degrees climb, the rest of us scurry around cleaning up the mess they leave in their wake when they get promoted.
Why not seek work elsewhere? I believe it's understood by now that working for Amazon means shit wages and long, arduous hours.
Apparently they all are being forced at gunpoint to work there or this is literally the only job they can get (which says more about them than Amazon)

I don't know if he closed the store that night it wasn't my problem!

Any rights and comforts of the workplace were fought for and earned by unions. Now companies are making record profits by encroaching on those rights. Oooh I love this question soooo….. I work for a hospital whenever someone calls out and it’s my turn to stay, I get mandated to stay or I get a write up. You get OT however, whatever plans you had, it’s gone. So Amazon evoked the same shit
It's exactly what it sounds like. They schedule you for OT, and you work the OT, or you get fired. And at my previous job, if someone called out for second shift (I worked first (morning) shift) then I was volun-told to work second shift, for a total of 16 hours. I lived an hour's commute away, so when this happened, I'd get a total of 3-4 hours of sleep.
I don’t mind delivering, I’ve done it for 5 years now part time through college, but Amazon does not give a cats hoo-ha about us.
all of these corp. have become crazy since the pandemic.
They signed up for this
What needs to happen with Amazon is for the employees to have a national slow down..
That's actually really good thinking.
The fact that we get free videos on RUclips by More Perfect Union is truly a gift; keeping education and knowledge alive.

if it is the most profitable period (and it is), I don't understand why they just can't hire more people and/or offer higher voluntary pay. it's not like christmas is a new phenomenon, it literally happens every year, at the same time, the same way. They could have a legion of "reserve" workers that only come in during busy periods, that way they only need minimum retraining. they could've had such a system for years now. if the military where people are relied upon to literally go to war can have such a system work, why can't people who scan boxes and move things not?
Of course they are hiring extra people. But do you think there are that many people waiting to work just for a few weeks and then be let go?
