I'm a linguistics graduate and teacher and this is quality content. I'm amazed that it's free. You guys are really awesome and this channel is something special here. Thanks so much ❤️
I appreciate that and I’m humbled by your comment. In the process of releasing a book from what I’ve learned from the feedback from these lessons at the end of the month. It’s called Jamaican Patois: Get Past Ya Mon and Speak Jamaican Fi Real. Also going to revamp all these lessons to make them more bite sized instead of the lecture feel. I really appreciate your feedback though, it encourages me to keep going! 🙏🏾
This is very interesting. I am Jamaican, and I speak patwah, but I find it difficult to write. So I really appreciate this video because now I can learn to write patwah.
Respeck…tanks fi di support…DM me on Instagram: @chattpatwah or Facebook: chatpatwah for our WhatsApp group…we write patwah with people from all over the world. Bless up! 🙏🏾🇯🇲
I absolutely love these videos. The lessons came in super handy, I was able to understand people while I stayed in Jamaica. Can’t wait to get back this month!
Woooow! Thanks for that feedback. Your comment is the sole reason for me trying to make them! Glad it helped and if you have questions or need help with any of it just give me a shout! Respeck!! 🙏🏾🇯🇲
For more material and practice, check out our Memrise course available at no cost at decks.memrise.com under Chat Patwah. CORRECTION: PREVIOUSLY I CONVEYED THAT THE WORD "DEH" MEANT "AT"...IT IS ACTUALLY THE VERB "TO BE" IN IT'S PERFECT FORM, AND AM, IS & ARE WHEN REFERENCING - YOURSELF, OTHERS OR OBJECTS. I HAVE EDITED TO VIDEO TO REFLECT. UPDATED IT ON THE MEMRISE APP...AND UPDATING THE UPDATE TO THIS LESSON IN THE NEW FORMAT - LESSON 7 RECAP. SORRY ABOUT THE ERROR, BEAR WITH ME AS I TRY TO MAKE THESE LESSONS BETTER.
“Drinks” is an exception...a tink wi have a few odda words wi do dat wid...inna English yuh woulda seh...Would you like a drink? Same ting inna patwah...Yuh waan drinks?...Now that I’m thinking about it...we wouldn’t call beer, soda, or a box drink/juice drinks...would be something mixed (non alcoholic) such as cool aid, or syrups that you add water to. Let me know if that helps, but “drinks” is usually the noun we use to refer to the non alcoholic mostly homemade mixed drinks.
