Awesome work Dom, Love the protruding Lettering! Can't wait to see what it looks like standing up, and if you ever want to make a massive bolt for it you're welcome to come up and forge one.
It's a beauty, probably the most complex, hand forged display piece ever. I know this isnt 'structural', but it's a good habit to get into with MIG or TIG, that you keep gas flow on the weld for a couple of seconds after completing the weld. This prevents contaminants from entering the weld puddle and compromising the strenght of the join...
soldering those letters reminded me of another lost industry ,Re-coreing radiators used to be one place that used to do them in every town. Cheers Dom love the different projects you do.
Wow. Great work. I’ve really been enjoying the spanner episodes… Don’t get me wrong I really want to see the 356 work happening again soon but this was a nice diversion! Cheers!
"For those of you who are sick of seeing these updates".... there can't be many, if any, of them... these updates are great viewing Dom (and Jon)... keep these, and similar one's coming.. please....
I can't help but think what my meral work teacher at school would've said if I had asked to do a project like this, he'd have told me to leave the course and not be so ridiculous. Anything can be achieved with an open mind and a strong will to make it happen, Amazing 🔧
I like the colour of that Ranalah - I would put that in my garden and have a hanging basket on it. Well done re the spanner and good to see Wendy approves of it.
Great stuff! Really glad you paid homage to the BSW. Turning your backs on the traditional measuring system was one very crucial step in destroying the culture and heritage that you're now trying to revive, and exactly why I choose Imperial and Whitworth for all the work I do.
Nice series, really loved seeing it coming together! Btw those 3M masks you wear are great. Had one on last week during a rattle can paintjob and was stunned by the amount of paintdust it captured. 😷
If only you had, had the time to make a nut and bolt to use it on. 🤗 Brilliant build and looking at my spanners that are the same type in my shed, looks dry similar. 👍
Yep..one of those things your granddad used to say....but which, in many cases is total nonsense...!! The fact is, what does 'worth doing' even mean...in many cases you do a job because it needs doing...and you do it to an acceptable level depending on the circumstances, and the job..!! Often, you bodge a job to solve a problem..it works, and it's good enough....!! The fact, is lots of people get hung up on the detail..they do a job much TOO well - and it can be an unnecessary waste of time and effort. So...y'know....do the RIGHT job...!!
Hey Dominic Chinea! See if that giant wrench fits around John's waist! He's a big nut to get involved with your projects! Ha ha! Greetings from Vancouver British Columbia Canada! Ride ride ride!
Everything is wonderful in hindsight Dom . But , structural adhesive would have been far easier and cleaner ! But it does look superb ! And will be a fitting tribute to the Goodwood Revival . Thankyou Jon and Dom .
Soldering is a good choice , but you should have used bronze solder (brazing - not bronze welding) It is just easier to do on steel for a inexperienced user because bronze fluxes are more fool proof on steel than lead fluxes. When you tin steel it is hard not to get that incomplete "paint on a greasy surface" coverage occurring. It is easier if you used zinc plated steel sheet which is effectively pre tinned. You can get a nice smooth meniscus that needs no clean up. Lead soldering on copper and copper alloys is , likewise , easy
Brazing would have meant having to put a lot more heat into each letter area and brazing flux is a bastard to get off as it goes just like glass. The clean up time would take forever to do. It's not like you can heat it up and drop it into a bucket of water to remove the flux with thermal shock. you would need a swimming pool lol
It's very cool. (& so is the plasma cutter (i say that all the time) I hope Goodwood appreciates it/ you. I actually think Wendy was saying she wants a welding mask now!
Great work Guy's should like good, I think guy's a nice JCB theme would be nice on that Ranalah Dom blow the trumpet for British Industry ( A ) have a nice day guy's and Wendy !!!. 😀😀😀👍👍👍.
But I’m surprised he didn’t protect his arms from the UV. I burnt my arms to a very uncomfortable state last week with my TIG welding, and I wasn’t doing heavy stuff. Loved the episode though. Top marks Dom and Jon. Les
Hi Dom & Jon. The spanner looks amazing have you found where you can get a tool box from. Have to say the yellow pant work on the Ranalah look`s so good.
Just a thought....why did you not tin the surface of the spanner as well as the letters? This would have made sweating the two together much easier enabling the solder to flow, much as you would if lead loading.
Loved watching you and John Make this - great work! Do you get worried that Wendy will get Arc eye though? Luckily my dog never comes in my workshop as doesn’t like the banging!
Absolutely fantastic Dom how long did that take you? Wish i could see it in person very impressive. The soldering also impressive well done give yourself some credit your very talented x
Looks great Dom, I just watched Bennett’s Customs age some engine parts using oxy action detergent, may be what you spanner needs to get the aged forged look?
Looks fantastic. You might need a way to highlight the lettering more tho. Maybe use some crome to highlight the background and help the lettering pop a bit more could be made look like an old spanner that has lost some of its crome
Awesome work Dom, Love the protruding Lettering! Can't wait to see what it looks like standing up, and if you ever want to make a massive bolt for it you're welcome to come up and forge one.
You guys are crazy. I never thought this would be quite so detailed. Great work is all about quality transitions. This is very nicely done!
It looks great! What a work of art! Now to just pop down to the hardware store for a nut and bolt that size..............
Brilliant. Thought the tunes were good too, usually mute the video when there's music playing but this was a perfect compliment.
Fantastic work Dom and honest John looks that realistic makes you want to use it!

Brill video. Love that music too. Been listening to that album ever since!

A true work of art Dom. Very fitting for the craftsmanship skills you are promoting.
Great job, Dom, John and Wendy. I enjoyed the backing music as well !
Hi Dom & John, Nice bit of work, (sorry I haven't been any help,) Best spanner 🛠️ , ever All the best Brian 😅
Wow. Great work. I’ve really been enjoying the spanner episodes… Don’t get me wrong I really want to see the 356 work happening again soon but this was a nice diversion! Cheers!
A work of beauty, I love all aspects of it. That ?plasma cutter looks very scary, lethal weapon style.
Love the sound track

Loving the music this week. Thanks for letting us know in the credits. Now listening on Spotify.

@@DominicChineas: Aww, anytime Dom, you are an amazing and creative man, great to watch
That is amazing Dom and John! Scale model in the wrong direction!

Massive bolt up next! Awesome job guys and love to see the next project.
Best giant spanner I've ever seen.
Your attention to detail and craftsmanship are inspirational. It's been a real pleasure watching this series.
You know what they say Dom “if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well”. Well done. I’m sure it will look brilliant at the show.

What a fantastic job you both made. Brilliant
Thank you Dom, John and Wendy for another interesting and fun video. The spanner will be the talk of the revival. Have fun, take care and cheers.
Great job you guys, can’t wait to see it at Goodwood.
Excellent...👍.
Great stuff! Really looking forward to seeing it (and you) at Revival. Got my frock all ready to rock!
Looking really really good! What a great job you've done. See you at the Revival! Looking forward to getting a selfie with the spanner!

Very cool work.
Next. Build a scaled bolt😂
Fantastic. Looks great.
Thanks for the music reccomendation too!
Dom and John you are both brilliant, I have loved watching all of these episodes and such great work….
Clear coat perhaps adds to authenticity , great work anyway !
Everything is wonderful in hindsight Dom . But , structural adhesive would have been far easier and cleaner ! But it does look superb ! And will be a fitting tribute to the Goodwood Revival . Thankyou Jon and Dom .
Paint it with Phosphoric acid, then spray it black, and rough it up a bit, to make it look like the other tools in your Toolbox. !
Great job. !
Your attention to details is amazing Dom.
🔧 Superb work guys. Guinness World Records book next.
Bet that was a wrench finishing that! Great series of updates. 👏👍
Haha!
Cheers From California Dom ! Can’t wait to see to see the final product 😊
Excellent work guys 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤠
Looks great! Nice work gents.
Looking good. I would love to see the burnt beeswax finish, it give a lovely antique finish

I really enjoyed the saga of the spanner!
I’m glad, thank you, it’s nice to know it’s worth filming!
Absolutely fabulous. Great job.

Looks smart , good work guys 💪💪
This it what Sunday nights are made for ❤
Well done guys looking fantastic should be proud of yourselves.
Love the patina the spanner is getting. 😎🛠
Nicely done Dom & John.👍👍
Thank you Dom & John excellent work.
Brilliant
Turned out great, lads. Well done 👌🏻
it looks super.........goed job jou both
Love the natural patina the spanner has gained through the process of creating it, Dom - maybe it just needs clear coating and call it done.
Looks good
Nearly there Dom.
It's very cool. (& so is the plasma cutter (i say that all the time)
I hope Goodwood appreciates it/ you.
I actually think Wendy was saying she wants a welding mask now!
Another successful job well done. See Wendy like's it. Next job please
Painting the ranalah is next!
Serious attention to detail😮
Great work Guy's should like good, I think guy's a nice JCB theme would be nice on that Ranalah Dom blow the trumpet for British Industry ( A ) have a nice day guy's and Wendy !!!. 😀😀😀👍👍👍.
Glad to see that John now has his own welding mask. We've all been very concerned!

Metal Work Meditation.. 👍
Amazing work, so entertaining watching it being created.
Great job you two, excellent 👋
Looks legit!! 😊👍
Head and Shoulders? Sorry couldn't resist😂
Guys. I’d love to see the hand that picks the spanner up. Great works guts
Hi Dom & Jon. The spanner looks amazing have you found where you can get a tool box from.
Have to say the yellow pant work on the Ranalah look`s so good.
Wait till you see the rest of the paint job!
Just a thought....why did you not tin the surface of the spanner as well as the letters? This would have made sweating the two together much easier enabling the solder to flow, much as you would if lead loading.
Dom, I wonder why soldering? why not brazing or silver solder. Spanner looks amazing great work.
great!
Does the weight of the spanner also scale?
Are you going to be making a giant nut for the spanner to torque on when you display it?
Loved watching you and John Make this - great work!
Do you get worried that Wendy will get Arc eye though?
Luckily my dog never comes in my workshop as doesn’t like the banging!
7 1/16" - love it
:-)
Send it out for chrome!!!
Not going to be distracted by a big yellow Ranalah, it's all I can see😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Solder was the only clean way, top spanner👍👍👍👍
Wonderful job there lads! Wendy's probably thinkin' "Hey Dad, does that mean we can hang out properly again now?!" :P
you need to get that metal hotter then the solder should run and fill the holes by capillary action
Are you going to paint it, Dom? Love your videos.
Absolutely fantastic Dom how long did that take you? Wish i could see it in person very impressive. The soldering also impressive well done give yourself some credit your very talented x
It’s taken a good few days! Hours and hours
@@DominicChineas well done for all the hard work x
Brilliant Dom!......will it be auctioned off after the event?
Looks great Dom, I just watched Bennett’s Customs age some engine parts using oxy action detergent, may be what you spanner needs to get the aged forged look?
The Banana Ranalah 🍌⚒️
Bagsey that spanner once your done with it👍😀
Hi Dom, Wondered why you didn't just put a size like 3/8 W - 7/16 W. What made you go for actual dimension? Really enjoy your videos.
The plasma cutter is some tool
It’s brilliant isn’t it! Made by Extreme plasma
I wish, I am a photographer and that cost enough. @@DominicChineas

please show us the finished spanner 🔧
Very wise making a witworth replica, if you'd copied a 10mm spanner you'd put it down somewhere and never find it again.
Haha! So true!
What are you going to do with it after the show, are you going to display in your workshop?
So whats protecting the dog from arc eye?
looks like a Bananala!
