I served aboard the USS Forrestal. I did not know how she was built. She was stationed in Norfolk Virginia. I drove past the shipyards, but didn't know what was happening. I feel very fortunate to be living in these times. Thank you everyone involved in the building of this ship and her sister ships!
Thanks for your service respect
Wow that’s awesome thank you I have two uncles that served on there too Brain Hill& Kenny Hill. I got to go on the ship when it was in
Pensacola Florida
My son will be starting this fall as a fifth generation shipbuilder at NNS!!! 💪
It makes me proud to see this video im a welder and my crew had a major part on this boat
From a welder to another. Thank You for your service!
And i thank you also
Deron Mcdaniel thank u for ur service
@@jackshittle LMAO very true
Dnice va757 great work u did...
My father also has an official smaller ship named after him. it's the RV Keary, a reseach vessel operated by the geological survey of ireland (GSI), he was a pinoneering Geologist who worked for his country. I can understand how Ms Ford feels with teh lauch of the ship named after her Dad. ❤
Nice to see familiar faces...Real people who poured their soul into building GRF! Thank you NNS! Proud to be a GRF Plankowner and part of Team Supply who helped bring her to life!
I am proud to have worked on assembling and testing the main propulsion turbines on CVN 78.
She's an amazing war machine. You and everyone else that had a part in her deserve a standing ovation!
Thank you Sir 👍
Great work to all the people who put and build this ship and protect America homeland. God Bless America.
Protection from whom.
I am proud to have been a part of this awesome
Great job Newport News shipbuilders!!! You guys rock big time!!!! God bless the American people, God bless America. Fair winds.
Lot of people proud to build that ship and rightfully so. I know I would have been proud to have worked on it.
The ship is incredible! Brand new, bigger and more powerful than the already spectacular Nimitz class. I'm really excited for the next 9 ships in the class. Especially CVN-80, U.S.S. Enterprise.
Great video, I'm a plankowner on the USS Samuel B. Roberts (ffg58) a much smaller ship , I would love to see this ship in action one day with my two boys....
What a great documentary something all people to do with building that ship should be very proud! Hope it's in Australia plenty of times!👍😉🇦🇺
That stealth looking carrier at the start was legit, It'll be cool to see something like that in the future.
CVN-80 USS ENTERPRISE is on the way ....... My heart soars like an Eagle !! Go Navy !!
Marvelous is the word that describes it all.... truly incredible 👍
Great job shipbuilders on CVN 78 and to you, Aaron Pritchett on a great video production.
This ship is huge and a wonder to see and was a great honor to have a hand in helping build. I love my job and the men and women we help serve and keep us safe.
My sons works at BIW to produce the DDG1000. I am so proud of my sons. As I am proud of you.❤🇺🇸
Mulhern. Colin Brian Mulhern. Ready to serve my country
Been waiting for this. Great documentary on first of class. Thanks for posting.
STAND PROUD EVERYONE!!!! Job well done!
Nice to see that the USS Gerald R Ford has almost completed her Sea Trials and with a bit of luck She'll be ready for deployment and make everyone at the Ship Yard very proud of their work and the success that She represents for the Yard, the Navy and America, next it's going to be USS John F Kennedy, the USS Enterprise and then USS Doris Miller.....
I am at a loss for words, My heart and chest is busting with pride and honor. I am overwhelmed pride
Maybe you need to watch some real news for a change.
I hope your heart doesn’t bust for your sake. America has a lousy healthcare system.
Proud to have served the United States Navy alongside with greatest Sailors, Chiefs, fellow Officers, Government Civilians, contractors and POTUS. God bless America ⚓️🇺🇸
My dad delivered to the Gerald r ford when it was being built as a truck driver from Pitt Ohio.
Wow. I learned a lot and shed a few tears.
Very good documentary. Excellent piece of engineering and job which took almost 20 years to be completed.
The first of her class is always such a hurdle, especially when she's loaded with so many new systems of advanced technology which will see these behemoths as the most advanced carriers the world has ever seen, the basics have been refined since WWII, but with time comes technology, and cramming all that in, testing and refining it to perfection takes time and effort, and no better builder than Newport News to conduct such an operation of construction, and lead the way for the ships that follow in her class.
Cheers from Aus!!!!
Excellent .. Thank you .. Merci ..!!
THANKS YOU FOR THE VIDEO !! BEAUTIFUL..
Forge ahead. Blaze a trail. Let's collectively watch in awe as CVN80 gets commissioned soon. Big E.
Wow...awesome video.
. DEFINITELY A TREAT to see some of the line workers have a chance to make some comments here. I bet no sailor will ever know as much about this ship as those who put their hours, days, months, and _sweat_ into getting it into the water.
Ship Builders!!!
Ford's daughter really did get her hands dirty in building this ship!
I've seen her in a whole different light!
They should have named it after her, maybe one day the ship yard will name something after her?
She deserves it!
She's been really inspirational to all and appreciates it more than anyone, what a credit she has been to the project!!!
When I first read this comment (before watching) I was thinking “no way a ship sponsor got there hands dirty” after watching, “wow the ship sponsor did get her hands dirty”.
A new bar has been raised for ship sponsors.
Before RUclips I had _NO_ _IDEA_ that large ships lean _outward_ when turning. I've only been on small motor boats and one small sailboat, and I thought _all_ boats leaned _inward_ when they turned, just like the small boats did. Naval Technology. What a Hoot!!!
This is it a great job , great aircraft carrier for the security of the UEA
Parabéns um grande feito de engenharia. Brasil
Now all we have to do is get it to actually do what it needs to do. It’s possible that I could be getting orders there and as much as I would love to brag about it and get excited about it I’m having a hard time because of everything that is still wrong with it and the possibility of me not experiencing life on a carrier or on deployment
It's close! Real close..
Always Good Ships ......
Vielen Dank ......Presidenten & Presidentinen.....
Vielen Dank allen Mitarbeiter/in.....Opas & Omas....Vätern & Müttern....Onkeln & Tanten....Brüderh & Schwestern....Cousinne & Cousanne

Very impressive
You cannot really know what a great American Ford was until you visit his library I spent hours there and understand why this ship has his name!!
It makes you proud to be American, even when you are not!
Wot
Unless your sick and need healthcare.
Awesome. I named the ship :D
cvn-80 u.s.s enterprise 2023
Respect to USNavy
God Bless America
This is a documentary about ceremonies. I wish they would have focused on the actual construction.
God Bless the USA
33:25 A carbon fiber sink/counter? Must be expensive!
Why do you think a potty cost $1000.00. I am a carrier sailor who served onboard USS Nimitz. Look forward to when she joins the fleet. Smooth seas to Gerald R Ford and crew.
Amazing ,,,,,proud to be American
Every Day!
Sad twat...
Sounds like Nigel has a personal issue...
Don't be. This is a war machine, not something to be proud of.
If your not proud of what you do, what's the point of it?
It doesn't matter how machines builders create are used, you can kill even with a car - however, if you aren't proud of what you build, that means your work was a waste and you shouldn't even bothered with it in the first place.
CVN-79 The USS John F. Kennedy will be commissioned in 2020.
Maxx Madd Any news on when's Enterprise's?
And the CVN-80 The USE Enterprise. Yes they are reusing the name like John F Kennedy.
@@spankthatshank7568 the Enterprise will be completed in 2022.
not even close
I'm waiting on the Dory Miller.
These are true American Hero's, beautiful American people. This should be shown to everyone. And don't balk at the price tag, that ship produced more money getting put together than it cost.
Ein Braves & Feiler Kind......
The United States of America is the Greatest Country on Earth!!!
Did you forget your RUclips name whilst making that comment? 🤣😂
@@lightspeed388 well you must hate the country you love sometimes xd
Lmfao 🙄
Deluded
Just hope you don’t get sick and can afford your healthcare cost if you do. But who needs healthcare and education systems when you have a big military machine to bully the rest of the world.
Shipbuilders 💪
Yeah, Ford had integrity and honesty... and that's why he admitted to lying his ass off about the position of the wound in Kennedy's back.
good work NNS on building her you will not see Ford again for 25 years.
Not being disrespectful but did they get the toilet problem fixed
Great ship, great people who build her
I am a Plankowner of a DD-963 Class Ship.
It is and has been a pet peeves of mine for a ship to be called a boat. I would liked to have believed that the yardbirds of today, had possibly evolved, and figured out the difference between a boat and a ship. Apparently not. Umderstand this., It's USS, United States Ship, NOT USB United States Boat.
The one, and only naval ship that can be called a boat is a Submarine.
It's a Respect thing.
GOD BLESS the USA DB THANKs
My cousin served on the Big E almost 20 years
33:25 Carbon Fiber bathroom sinks? Is that cost effective and necessary?
Light weight and durable, mostly for safety as slipping and hitting your head on a steel sinks hurts a fuckton more that a lightweight cb sink.
Carbon fiber sinks? Wow!
The other 9 Gerald R. Ford aircraft carriers must be sailing on the moon. Lol
Godbless

everything i don't like is russian
Mon., May 4, 2020 UPDATE: there are 73 dislikes.
My youngest sons an aircraft mechanic hell be on this ship in a month or so. So proud of him
hoping to see more actual construction
It depends upon the Country’s National Interest & Need of Power Projection for example India’s blue water Navy would go in for Non Nuclear Carrier thought it has gone ahead for Nuclear Submarine because it’s Area of Operation is the Indian Ocean. Nathan Sekhar Sydney Australia.
I hope there is Cruise ship Made in America, yes you can...
wonder if this shock caused the building in Miami to collapse
you will see in the comment section chinese are trolling....they want to copy this but they fail :))))))
...and let history never forget the name... ENTERPRISE...i cant wait to see the new Enterprise in 2025
Ist es genügend.....Muss ich noch dazu........
Wo sind die Fallschirm Sprüngen...........?
According to Putin, he has a fleet of super carriers with 16 runways each on their flight deck. He is using it in 'Special Operation'.
47:46
The countdown begins
it take time and many years to build this ship..US quality is the best. while china it only takes month to copy and 1 years to build the ship .. and after 3 years the ship break a part :))))))
China can't even copy the paint correctly and they defiantly don't have nuclear power and they wish they could copy even our WWII ships.
China could not figure out how to mass produce a ballpoint pen until the late 70s. That should tell you everything you need to know. The steal and copy the appearance of our tech. But the guts are incompetent at best.
Wow , this ship had a lot of back story
Yup. Since 1996 during the design.
America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't forget to help the homeless in oakland.
I love how she really swung that bottle, she knew what was at stake. We all know if that bottle doesn't break on the first try there'll be a cloud over it. I bet she broke a few that week beforehand just to get the feel. Maybe it's silly but the stress must have drove her a bit nutty beforehand. Great work all around, by Americans and for America. God bless
Christening seemed to go better with this ship. Hope they get it right.
Im one of the painter
is the best carier in the world
Thought I would see more of the building of the carrier itself but all I saw was company PR. More like a click bait video......Pffffff
Go raibth maith agat ☘️✌️🤘🇺🇸
Connas ata tu. . ?
Ford son looks Just like him, even the daughter looks like him
2060: And now here is CVN-88 the first of its class star destroyer the USS Trump
Good ship but man did costs get out of control on that ship from 7 billion right up to 13 billion government waste will never end
The contractors make promises they can't keep ... and they know with the ship is half built and a few billion already invested the government isn't going to just stop the program or tell the contractor ... "You said 7 billion and finished by this date with all the new tech as promised." .... and force the contractor to finish it at their own expense.
The first of anything is going to cost more then projected. You're not really sure how much it's going to be after all since it's the first...
The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is the first in the class and added to that there were new technologies that was integrated to it. New nuclear reactors that can produce 300 more Kilowatts than the nuclear reactors in the Nimitz-class. That new nuclear reactors can provide new defensive weapons in the near future such as the railguns and lasers. Aside from that the USS Gerald R. Ford had an EMALS (Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch Systems) Catapult in contrast to the older and not so aircraft friendly steam catapults from the Nimitz-class. With those facts you just can't expect that the new USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) can be as the same price tag with the latest Nimitz aircraft carrier, USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77).
Chuck Taylor The problem isn’t in the building of the ship it’s in the unproven technology that’s gone into it. Would you want your house built with prototype technology? And in their infinite wisdom they’re building two more just like it. So now instead of one carrier that’s not able to deploy you’ll have three.
Yeah. I thought this company said $5billion at the beginning & some1 said $13B was final cost?? Hahaha what gross misunderestimate & not to mention all the problems with it
There he is, Our Greatest Most Wonderful President ever Donald Trump! Keep on MAGA every day, Sir!!!
Didn't know if it would be...coal? Will be a great ship, though.
All US aircraft carriers are nuclear powered and capable of staying at sea for 20+ years without stopping.
33:28 Only 'some' of your work you are proud of? I don't think that is what she meant, but still funny.
Well you’re not always proud of everything you do, sometimes we make mistakes and regret , only ones we’re proud of are the good things we do and forever remember the greatest things you’ve done.
great to see that black talent had a hand in building this amazing feat at every level.
....who cares, black , white, yellow, green or red ??? ... fvcking racist ...
How about talent period? Why does it have to have a colour attached to it?
