Hey Guys, As you have probably noticed already i have updated the channel name and logo. The channel is no longer Really Random Channel it is now RRC Restoration. Just incase you were wondering why the water marks in the video still say Really Random Channel. Enjoy.
Due to the sheer amount of negative comments i am getting from people i feel it necessary to pin a comment here explaining why i didn't remove or change the wheel bearings and the reason is very simple. The wheel is NOT going back on the road it is going to be wall mounted and backlit as a feature. so i dont see the point of wasting perfectly good money on a brand new bearing just to have it hanging on a wall when the old ruined one does equally as good a job. Thanks for your understanding RRC So now we have moved on from the bearings and onto the thread lock.... seriously?

Well done. But I was waiting to see you heat the wheel to drop out those hammered bearings for a new set. Not sure I'd trust those rubber sprocket hub cushions either. But still...inspiring work. MP
The cush drive rubbers are not dry hard and cracked, I personally would maybe have used a bit of silicon grease on them to make sure they stayed that way, rubbed on left to absorb for a while and wipe off excess so won't pick up dirt. As for the bearings, maybe best to while the wheel is off the bike and as the wheel was in that condition, but they could be fine, anyway he done what he said he would do.

This is a lovely resto, but I have 2 points: 1) you re-used the old cush-drive rubbers, which by now are probably rock-solid and so won't offer any smoothing out of drivetrain impulses giving a rougher ride and reduced chain life expectancy (always fit new ones if they are more than 5 years old I was told by a dealer) and 2) all that lovely resto work and the wheel is finished with it's original rusted bearings, that might fall apart after some miles. Again, new bearings would have perfectly sealed the deal!

Got some fancy tools there. When I want to change a tire I have to use a bunch of flat head screwdrivers, a nice cinderblocks to sit on, and a lot of cursing.

Im curious as with this video for fun i decided to deliberately do a few jobs wrong or awkwardly to see how many people pick them up ;) so far a few have slipped past the viewers ;) Glad you enjoyed the video ;)
Really Random Channel you take critics well man! Awesome It started with taking the tire off, you rubbed the pusher arm on the rim.. When taking the valve stem off you cut into the rim; (Push the valve down and cut along the bottom but away from the rim, as long as the brass stem itself is free, you're good) and the same with the wheel weights. (Use a plastic rod with a flat end instead, prevents scratching 😜) Also, hold the rim whilst you open the tire lift mashine, saves you more damage, also helps to put tape or plastic covers on the clamps themselves to give the rim more grip and again, prevent damage 😊 Then when putting the new valve stem in you used a hammer, valvestems are made to be pulled through, hitting them can cause the brass in the stem to misshape and leak overtime. There are special tools to pull them though, but you can make your own by welding a steel stem cap on a rod (preferably with a T-piece) Then I can start about the bearings, but I read your pinned comment. Really Random Channel beleve me, in a busy workshop only parts within an engine will be torqued down, and the threadlocker... Well, to be honnest, eighter red or blue will do, you don't want the bolts to come lose anyways, before removing them just heat up the metal around the bolts, threadlock will become soft again and due to expantion you'll always be able to remove the bolts easier. And hey, for saying I know my stuff, that's why its my job 😜 but I sill have lots to learn. Thanks anyways 😉

Useful and well done video!I have my wheels sand blasted by my local monument shop. Those all have powerful engine driven compressors and large industrial blast pots so most do blasting on the side. (I also trade farm eggs for blast work, everyone wins!) As for the fools manstruating about wheel bearings. what I do would REALLY trigger them: I use sections of quality 7/8" diameter allthread with nuts and large washers in place of the axle. I seal the washers to the wheel hub using clear RTV. Most people don't know standard automotive RTV sealant easily survives powder coating! I don't pull the old bearings and seals before sand blasting, powder coating or paint. The allthread is even more convenient than an old stock axle. Sand doesn't get in and the old grease doesn't escape. Of course I pull the old seals (the heat doesn't bother them so if you KNOW your bearings are good you can leave them in place) to inspect the old bearings which I usually replace since they are dirt cheap. I block off steering necks this way when blasting and coating frames. No need to pull the bearing races that way. I've had four pairs of wheels and four frames (including my mentors Catalina Gold Star and 1939 Indian Chief frames, he's a restorer and was delighted) powder coated this way so far

Even thought he said the tire isn't going back on the road, if they are low mileage bearings they may still be good. Considering how easily the wheel spins on the spindle I'd say they are road worthy. You'd want to check for play and smoothness, if both check out you're set to go
Where is no other way most people do same just think what way you can do it......? You will come with same idea. nothin special just simple logical thinkin. or go any paint shop most do same

I thought the job was done very nicely. I understand about the bearings. I was wondering though, if this were not going to be a decorative piece, but put back on the road, would you have painted the inside of the rim? I ask because I will be restoring some wheels that will be used on a vehicle.
Hey, Thanks for the comment. If the rim were going back on the road no i wouldn't paint the inside of the rim as i feel the paint surface would be to slippery for the bead of the tyre to get a good grip on and on a high power or heavy bike you run the risk of the tyre slipping around the rim either under hard acceleration or heavy braking.

You should not use paint stripper on aluminium it changes the chemical structure of the metal weakening it.

I thought the job was done very nicely. I understand about the bearings. I was wondering though, if this were not going to be a decorative piece, but put back on the road, would you have painted the inside of the rim? I ask because I will be restoring some wheels that will be used on a vehicle.
Hey, Thanks for the comment. If the rim were going back on the road no i wouldn't paint the inside of the rim as i feel the paint surface would be to slippery for the bead of the tyre to get a good grip on and on a high power or heavy bike you run the risk of the tyre slipping around the rim either under hard acceleration or heavy braking.

Hey man, love your channel. Since half the drop-kicks here don't understand that it's mainly display pieces, you should probably add a quick alert at the beginning of the video - big bright colours and letters so they can read it an understand...
