It was a day filled with anxiety and excitement at Baltimore’s famed Hippodrome Theater when Match Day was held for the Class of 2017 of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. At exactly noon, medical students around the country receive an envelope telling them where they will do their residency training. Experience Match Day in this video!The University of Maryland School of Medicine serves as the anchor for a large academic health center which aims to provide the best medical education, conduct the most innovative biomedical research and provide the best patient care and community service to Maryland and beyond.

I think it's a pot that each student puts money into when he/she is called up, and the last student called up to announce his/her residency gets the pot. I know other medical schools have a similar tradition.

Students take up a small collection and the last student called up gets the prize! The names are called at random..
