Just finished this audiobook. Excellent story with richly drawn characters and with more than one plot. Insights into human ways from many different perspectives and a very enjoyable experience in mostly believable happenings. It's no wonder that Dean Koontz makes a very good living at his chosen craft. Thanks to all of the people who made this audiobook free to enjoy. Kudos.
I remember reading TickTock and absolutely hating it. A year later I decided to give Dean Koontz one more try, reluctantly, and I have never looked back. He's definitely my favorite of the genre and one of my favorite American writers. Thanks Mr. Koontz for a lifetime of having something to look forward to.
I'm graeful to listen to this auiobook. But as a scientist and a fiction writer, I am compelled to point out some of the more glairng plot holes, mistakes, and stupid things the author put in this otherwise good book.
This is one of the early books that would lead me to a lifelong love of all Dean's stories. I actually have the book from years ago. Very worn now, like all of his books. Thank you very much for posting this. And what a fantastic performance by Ms Oppenheimer.

Enjoyed the story, I've read many of the author stories in hard copy...I am a fan. However, listening to the voice of Jane Oppenheimer took it to a whole new level for me 🎭🥇💣
Good book, good story. Kills off far fewer characters than King. My fave Koontz novel is STRANGERS. I'd enjoy finding that one on audiobook, even better in movie form. COLD FIRE is another on my top ten list along with TICKTOCK. Definitely my favorite writer.
✨ *Excellent -- RECOMMENDED!* ✨ I remember reading this when it first came out! -- and really enjoying it back then. This story works very well as an audiobook; it's a fairly lightweight tale that moves right along, and the narrator is superb. Thanks for uploading this, I'm enjoying it all over again! 👍🏻👍🏻
Ben "I wish I could live in the 1920's where everything was hunky dory with no street violence." Also Ben "They just executed those cops on the street what is this the 1920's!"
1:28:41 This is some of his earlier work, it’s not his greatest writing. I remember reading this 25 or 30 years ago, so long ago I can’t remember the storyline.
OMG. 😂 LMAO 🤣 your man crush is so evident. I got such a giggle. " You could get a little horse, or an emu or little donkey from arms they have a new little man. That they won't be able to keep. !!! Or all of above. Lololololol 😅😂❤ much love to ya all.
I like Dean Koontz a lot but this is sub-par. "Ma'am, I'm calling from the morgue to tell you that we can't find your husband's body and we need you to come down" NO ONE EVEN ASKS WHY. He could have had her find out from the funeral home and decide to barge in to the morgue herself. That would make more sense why they turned on her. But, first they invite her to do a security audit ("unpickable" locks but zero cameras, which they had in the 60s), and then after they invite her to do a security audit, they accuse her. And all this "FOR God's sake be quiet and open the door while I point my gun at it, but I can't tell you what we're up against because I don't want to get you involved. Now get ready to run or something." I like Koontz but i don't trust the author of this book to be realistic at any given point. Rachel is not stringing Ben along. Koontz doesn't have an actual story and it's deliberately keeping us in the dark as a weak suspense tactic. I'm going to go find a different Koontz book.
As an internationally known scientist, aspiring fiction writer, and and world-recognized painter, despite my pooor spelling skills, I feel my breath of knowledge qualifies to to critique the author of this story. The writer's ideas of memory storage are childish. He needs to review a basic neuroscience text book. Next, he mentions that the characters are ingesting the stimulant known by the slang word 'bennies.'' I can't spell it out because youtubes censorship algorhythm wil delete my post. the stoyr is set around the year 2000. Bennies have not been available legally or black market since they were outlawed in or around 1970. Also, what's the point of the coitus scene? It's simultaneousy gross yet laughable. The author is embarassing himself. it's not part of the plot. It's not even interesting. It's boring and over done. Noody f"'in cares. In general, love is not a spectator sport. Nobody wants to read these rubbish scenes Just leave it out.
Congratulations on your accomplishments. Now get with the program and understand that this book has been written almost 40 years ago and be cognizant of diagnostic, prognostic and treatment possibilities in the PAST FOUR DECADES, not just in terms of physiology, but psychology as well. I've read Koontz under various psydonyms since 1988, including books written prior to this, including some whilst at university where I was encouraged to actually check out reference books and research some of his "wild" theories applied as theoretical foundation for his FICTION writing as time and science developed. It's incredibly sad to use this platform to so flagrantly display an ignorance of the evolution of science, technology and the applied format in science writing. Thank goodness you're a renowned scientist, I suspect same would not be said by your peers in the literary world. By the way, Bennies and really ample variants of it, were still freely accessible in 1990 and 1991, sorry that you're so out of touch with reality
Agreed. If Rachel was such a perfect, sweet, and demure woman, why on earth would she have married an insufferable ogre like Eric in the first place? He doesn’t sound like the sort of man who would mask his true character to win her over. Yes, I’m an hour in, and it all sounds utterly contrived and ridiculous so far.
I finally gave up on this. What finally did me in was the unprepossessing but rich and wildly successful real estate agent turning into superman...no, there are limits, even in living dead zombie novels.
@@molliemilesi212 He does it a lot. His goodies are always bloody perfect, without a spiteful thought or inconsiderate deed to their names, and his baddies are always utter psychopaths. There are no shades of grey in Koontz’s characters.

A good Dean Koontz story. And, Jane Oppenheimer, you crushed the narration. Well done! If you're thinking about this story, give it a listen!

😂
