    This video takes a look at what I refer to as fraternal twin techniques: no gi moves that are closely to gi moves. The examples I focus on comparing in this video are the Anaconda Choke with Kata-Ha Jime; the Darce Choke with the Brabo Choke; and the Peruvian Necktie with the Gerbi Choke. There are lots of examples besides these, and not only submissions but sweeps and escapes too. Hope you like it!

    Some details shared by Yarden Gerbi herself about how she applied her choke (now banned in judo -_-):
    - In order to confuse her opponent, she starts attacking with the "receiving" hand first while she takes her lapel out on the other side at the same time.
    - She does not grab the extremity of her lapel but farther in order to get a big chunk.
    - After giving the lapel to the other hand, she sits kind of diagonally while pulling the opponent's belt with her empty hand.
    - Then she straightens herself backward, and straightens her leg above the opponent's leg (sometimes with the help of her hand) and with her other leg she pushes on the opponent's knee to keep her low.

    Eli,
    I would love to see a video of you doing a “put it all together” video. I study SO MUCH self defense theory and want to see someone attack that “full mindset”.
    A lot of people say Muay Thai jiujitsu but I’d say, to be stereotypical, FMA jiujitsu.
    An object in your hand adds about two more points per hand, to be scientific but also cliche in the sense of “science of eight limbs”.
    I wanted to write you privately but you don’t have any private contacts except for that awful blue publication.
    A man of Letters and Science?! Sure enough.
    Love that you work with Funker.

    Maybe it’s been said already in the comments here (too many for me to read), but I tend to think the Japanese Necktie should be included, going off of the logic of the grip positioning (in nogi bjj/CACC wrestling at least- which admittedly, I’m more familiar with than techniques wearing a gi /gi grips).

    Are there different grips for the guillotine choke tho? I feel like different instructors prefer one guillotine grip over another.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  4 года назад +2

      I think the guillotine grip should always depend on the space that needs to be filled and the dexterity and flexibility of the person applying it. Lots of variations are out there, but I don't think there is always a single preferred. There are 5-finger, 10-finger, palm to palm, high-elbow, arm-in, Diesel Squeezle (per Keenan), and lots of other types of grips for it.

    For gi/no gi corollary, what about Ezekiel chokes which can be hit from several positions, not just mount where it is typically taught. It seems in the no gi style, it has a similar arm configuration like the RNC but the choking pressure is different?

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  4 года назад

      When I use no gi Ezekiels, I usually prefer them in a punch choke configuration instead of the fully folded RNC style grip.

    What is the reason still for the Gi uniform still being used? like seriously....the Gi is a waste and not realistic, the Gi is mostly similar in Japan and other culture of Asia of the clothes that they wore but no one wears a Gi every time and every where in public, etc., besides mostly Japan and possibly Korea. No Gi is more realistic.

      There is an entire sport of grappling that mandates a gi. “A waste and not realistic”? Are you meaning “street self defense”? Because as a sport, the gi is the uniform.

    • @garouuchiha4041

      @@fightfiles i know that its the sport uniform but yes i am referring to the streets, im fine with both but i still get irritated on still having to use the gi, instead of gi's why not use regular t-shirt, pants, shorts, jackets, etc., even better

    • @fightfiles
      @fightfiles 4 года назад

      K.O. Brings I cannot speak for all gyms, but that depends on the school/lineage/philosophy. There are plenty of schools/instructors (and the first bjj school that i first went to, did/)do take shirts, jackets, etc into considération when teaching technique. I do believe that even in the case that it isn’t mentioned, a good instructor would allow for student questions such as (for example) “how can we adjust this if the attacker is in a tank top”. The OP does a good job explaining that in the video he mentioned. (I watched it as they suggested.)

    • @WarriorofSunlight
      @WarriorofSunlight 3 года назад

      If you can control and choke someone with a gi, then you can do the same if the opponent is wearing a coat.
