I had the steam deck 1st, rog ally now, and the X pre-ordered. Windows based is most important to me.
I really wish ASUS would've shadow dropped the X.. I sold my Ally too early and now I miss it
Well, there is a release date.
Upgrading for the battery life, ram and I want to be able to use a none Asus external gpu. The X will last me through 2026. By then maybe Microsoft/Xbox will do something which is what i really want.

The processor has its limitations.
I am returning my original Ally Z1 Extreme within the 60 day period for best buy along with the 2 tb drive I bought for it and preordering the X and will upgrade the storage, will only cost me a little bit more when all is said and done. I'm excited about this device.
Ally X for me. Steam deck Oled is showing its limitations already even on low settings
I don't know if I should wait for the MSI Claw 8 AI Plus. The 8 inch screen is enticing.

I still rather deal with the steam deck then deal with windows on the rog Ally

What about the Claw 8, that is the issue. I don't really know if I should buy it ..... if in 2 months a better one comes. Claw 7 has been a failure but claw 8 seems very promising.
I’m in the same boat. New processor and a well needed 8inch VRR screen. Plus it’s rumoured to have 32gb ram and 80wh battery
Wish it was starting at $699 , would intrigue me more.
Got the ally 1 if this was 600$ I would probably upgrade but as of right now I’m good with my ally 1
It'll probably be 600 within a year tbh. So if you can wait, you'll benefit from it.

It is for me its got everything i wanted from my original ally, more RAM, more storage, 80wh battery, usb4 thunderbolt 4, a working micro Sd card, and im more excited about the community mods. Some say they'd wait for strix point, but i doubt it anyone besides ayaneo or onexplayer will put it into a handheld PC anytime soon.

ill just wait for next year to see if strix point apus come to handhelds like everyone is anticipating . if they dont come out, great im sure we'll know even more about the ally x then and it'll help me justify buying it even more. also im sure they'll have it a lower price. i dont buy into the FOMO and thats really the only reason to get it now rather than later
At the price does it replace a budget gaming pc or laptop? I think so. Plus the advantages of being mobile
Definitely agree it depends on what games your playing, I have a steam deck and play a lot of my back log and indie games with no problem. I save the big triple A games for my PC. It’s pretty much a side kick to my pc. But if I didn’t have a pc I’d probably get an ally.
I like the idea of building it like a PC version of a Switch. Play the Ally on the go, then dock it with an eGPU when I get home.
But I have a Deck OLED and an old gaming PC, so I'm going to hold off until the Ally 2 or equivalent next year or so - give AMD a chance for new APUs and maybe USB 4.2 support.

I have the Rog Ally and the Odin2. I will wait when they finally get the OLED maybe a year or two it will come out, however the battery life on the ally is so bad. I was hoping we can upgrade the battery.
@valg.3152 I just bought an odin 2 pro and was really excited especially since I haven't emulated for like 10 years and wanted to relive some games I grew up playing but I don't see where games are nowadays, seems like all the sites have removed the games? Am I just out of luck? Any help would be appreciated 👏
I'm going to give the Ally X a shot to win me over but not having an OLED screen and no track pads are two pretty big omissions. Chances are I'm going to end up just sticking with my Steam Deck OLED.
I have z1 extreme ally and i dont feel the need to upgrade. I have a capable 4k rig that i use on my tv with controller. I use mostly steam on it and i do some fortnite. And i got the charger with the hdmi usb port for when travel. Paried with a mini keyboard the i8 variant and i got like a. Traveling gaming rig/ desktop
For anyone who doesnt have a windows based handheld and is looking for one i advise the ally x over the others but if you already have one and dont have lets a egpu laying around i wouldent bother switching the difference isnt that big you are alrdy satisfied woth your og ally
I have SD Oled and Ayaneo 2S, but I'm soooo getting the Ally X. Will probably sell the Ayaneo.
i want to upgrade to it i really do, ive had a deck then switched to ally then back to deck OLED but then this comes along fixing a lot of what the ally was put down for but then i remember why i like the deck so much and its just that it works with everything i want it to work with, most of the time thanks to track pads or developers factoring in the system itself. For example i like to play a lot of rimworld or football manager as examples and on the deck they're awesome, precise mouse pointer control cant be understated in games like this and using the Ally was not nearly as nice an experience, but when you play a game on the Ally that just works no drama its for sure another step up on the deck... often just because its 1080p over 800p which i notice massively on games like cult of the lamb which looks ass on deck and crisp on Ally.
£800 is for me manageable but im not sure its offering enough to justify the price, its still not efficient enough to really take advantage of that battery, i mean imagine it was capable of solid 4w gaming with a total system power well below 10w with that battery, you would be approaching 15 hour plus capability in indie games which would be insane but as it stands the Ally struggles at 7w and total power is just too high, far above what many games require, its just inefficient and that highlights valves strengths with the deck.

On one hand having an additional c-port, better RAM and a slightly better battery is tempting… but I have the Z1 extreme version of the Ally which has the same chip as the x version, with the micro SD still functioning ( granted I’m keeping a close eye on the temperature so that it doesn’t fry it)…
I think I’m going to wait until a newer version of the Ally is released that has a new chip and an even better battery for now at least.
Smart move. There is no reason to get the X if you already have the extreme z1 version. Me personally I never had an ROG ally, so this is perfect for me.

Sold my series X. Never get to play it like I want cause I have little ones. Asus Ally might be perfect for me.
It's for those who have deep wallet. People with limited means will of course struggle and complain
My only remaining issues with the Ally X are Asus themselves and the 7" screen. All the rest of the hardware is there but I can't go back to a 7" screen after the Legion Go, not even for VRR.
Exactly, non of these handhelds compares to the Legions display, that's what sold me day one coming from the LCD deck, Legions the waaaay
£800 man I was hoping it would be cheaper. Looks like I’ll be keeping my deck oled and og rog ally. I would of thought they were of included a oled screen at that price. Can’t wait to see the bench marks. I’m thinking of getting the onexplayerx1 AMD. Is it any good?
The Ally was £700 at launch, but can be found a fair bit cheaper with relative ease nowadays. It's only like a year old or so.
I wouldn't be surprised if you could find an Ally X at £600 within a year. But honestly, hold onto the Deck OLED for the time being, it's what I'm doing, and wait for next gen AMD APUs.
Within 1 year, the new handhelds will have like 30-40% performance uplift at the same price. Probably more RAM and better designs. Maybe a USB4.2 for better eGPU bandwidth etc.

I'm getting Ally X in addition to my Steamdeck. Ally X is everything the Steamdeck isn't and vice versa. Expensive yes, but worth it to me.

If i didnt have the rog ally and was also currently building my first gaming pc I'd get it.
I loved my rog ally when I had it, but went to the SD OLED. Which is phenomenal.
Really tempted to switch back now that it has better battery life… I really miss COD and I got rid of all my consoles.
I know you’ve been playing a lot of COD on it.. but straight up, without talking exact performance , does it meet your expectations for a cod machine primarily

Aly X is the Ally we deserved. It's not even been a year so those first users were burned imo. We can however put Bazzite on the ally and have a faaaaaaaaaaaaar better SD.
Bazzite kind of sucks though. SteamOS is in general is trash.
I WANT THAT DOOM GAMING CHAIR!!!! im so in love with Doom Eternal! I've been playing it on Rog Ally extreme Z1 and its so fn awsome! I can play at ultra, 1080p and stay at 70fps no problem so I cant wait to see how much more of a beast Rog Ally X will be!

Ill be ugrading because I can. My rog ally has been solid and I like all the upgrades with the x. Battery, RAM,2280 and being black is huge for me. White gets nasty looking I dont care how much you wash your hands. Its a decent upgrade. Little spendy? Yeah but did original steam deck owners have to upgrade to the oled either? Probably not. Steam deck is cool too but I like having a little more power.
One thing about the Ally compared to a laptop is that you don't need a desk and a mouse to play. All you need is the device, and you can play it anywhere-on your bed, couch, toilet, or on a bench. It is much smaller and lighter than a laptop, so you can easily put it in any bag. If you want to play on a bigger screen, you can dock it to a monitor, keyboard and mouse make it as you personal computer or a TV and use a controller just like a console. And compare to laptops this is way cheaper.
So do you recommend to buy to whom dont have anyone?
@@Phmms90 ofcourse. If you don't have laptop or PC or if you only have old laptop or PC that can no longer play modern games I recommend ally. Deck is only good as a secondary device if you have a gaming laptop or PC ally is for peole who don't have any since it can handle anything you put in it with no limitations. Ally can be your PC replacement.

After watching more content on it I would now be tempted if I hadn’t already gone for the Legion Go at less than £500. SD OLED and the Go are my main devices even though I have a series X and PS5.

why didn't they do it the first time around.Its definitely not technological limitations.Nothing has changed in battery tech in the year since OG Ally launched
It was released an year ago, a bad move would be to release Ally 2 after 3 or 6 months.

It’s not a console, it’s a PC but far more portable. For a PC the price is good but for a console yeah it is a lot. Usually I spend more than £1000 on a gaming laptop so in that case it works for me. Love the steam deck but it just doesn’t have the power or play all the games I play like COD
If someone already owns a handheld pc and would have to sell that to afford the Ally X, then they probably shouldn’t imo.
I think we are going to see more frequent releases of these handhelds as more companies fight for their piece of the pie. Almost like cell phones getting a refresh every year. But these aren’t cheap handhelds. There will always be an improved handheld on the not so distant horizon.
Maybe they are just selling it because there is no point in keeping it. Which is especially true with the ROG Ally.

100%! We've covered XBPlay on the channel but it's streaming, ALLY/X can play the games natively.

I feel like you guys wouldn’t be so positive about this or Asus if you’ve owned the original. As someone who has gone through their nightmare RMA process w the original Ally and other Asus products (laptops, GPU)… Fuck Asus, their shitty products and shady practices.
Yeah that's a valid point, we've had zero experience with the original. To be fair though I think the ASUS issues are unique to US? We're UK, I've been using ASUS parts for 20 years and only ever had amazing customer service & RMA experiences here, I could have been lucky though. Only had 1 GPU and 1 monitor fail but no questions asked replacements without any hassle.
My wife wants an original ALLY though, so we'll see how that goes.
@@128KB yea good point. I believe UK has way better buyer/customer protections in place. Asus RMA tried to scam me as well before when I sent in a laptop for faulty speakers (within warranty period), and then they tried to charge me for a “screen replacement” when I sent them a perfectly fine screen. They seem to “find” things to charge you for.

I hope they make it better as I'm on my second RMA for the original. It's a great computer when it works but Asus can't be trusted. Battery life was horrendous. 3 games and you're done. It was terrible. Again trust for Asus is gone for me.

Not a chance lol.. it really doesn't matter how much it costs or how good it's performance is as it's made by ASUS and I would never buy one of their products again simply because I will never again put myself in the position to have to deal with their customer services or rma system. And on top of that, the Legion go is down to £600 for better performance and battery life.

IT IS WORTH IT... its got higher specs than most other handheld pcs... and so its literally worth the price jump... might be to expensive for you, but price per power it is worth it, thats why they clearly specified that its not for everyone and that as a ROG machine its catered to high spec loving people
Depends on your view. It is worth it when comparing to other units in the same price level, nothing else comes close. But $800 for a portable system overall is pricey.

$800 is a fair bargain price. In Poland it will cost 980 dollars and I will buy it anyway, even though it is my entire salary.

Ally x is full blown pc. Pc s don't come this cheap not even laptopz do. I hardly think you can do all the things in steam deck that you can do with ally. You can edit 4k 60 videos with ally x. Good luck doing a 10800-60 with steam deck 😂
