Born to an unmarried mother in 1961, Michael Hawkes was adopted, sent to America as a very young child, and subsequently abused by a senior member of the Roman Catholic church. It was when he met his future wife, Susan, that he finally managed to trace his roots, discover his family history and begin to make piece with his past. A Family Tree interview.
