I've been watching this film every Christmas Eve for over 50 years . That opening scene shows the best layout I have ever seen . I wonder if Lionel built it ?
"People Will Talk" (1951) with Cary Grant has several images of Lionel trains in it. One scene is shot in a toy store, with a layout and trains everywhere. Perhaps the best scene is the upstairs of a mansion having trains running all over between rooms. My grandkids love seeing the trains crash in that scene.
I believe I actually remember seeing that ending credits, but not the opening, of this particular movie when I was much younger in my youth before I finally was old enough to start collecting Lionel Trains. I do know and still remember what happens throughout half of this film with young Timmy and those Lionel F3 Diesels he got for Christmas, and yet I don't want to spoil any parts of this movie if anyone hasn't actually seen this yet or remembers it.
Also check out "The World, The Flesh, And The Devil" from about 1958 starring Sidney Poitier and Inger Stevens. The 1957 Lionel 746 set is featured in a musical sequence that lasts a minute or two.
Thanks a lot, there must be lots more out there in old films,I remember seeing one in the UK with Lionel trains back in the 50's at a kids cinema ABC MINORS I think that started me off wanting Lionel trains over the h0/00 plastic ones we all had. But we didn't have the money then.they were only availiable in Gamages London. I made up for it 50 years later.......I get great fun in restoring mostly prewar stuff but sadly Lionel is scarce in the UK.
Lionel didn't initially offer streamlined passenger cars to go with the F3s. But the Santa Fe & many other railroads had secondary trains in the late 1940s - and later - that had streamlined diesels pulling heavyweight cars.
Thats a mouthwateringly beautiful layout in the opening credits, one of the best I've ever seen.
It IS nice. Really makes the Lionel equipment look great!

Diorama Studios division of The Lionel Corporation build plenty of layouts for Hollywood.

I was wondering about that
Amazingly short movie. I barely had time to get into the plot.
