Thanks for the kind words, Ken! We had a great time talking to Kevin, I’m sure your interview will be great! We’re waiting for you to come to our channel. Looking forward to watching it!
Thanks for the tip about Jazz and Coffee. Just followed. Clay Jenkins is a brilliant trumpet player who has been around a long time. I saw him with the Clayton Hamilton Big Band. I believe he's part of the LA studio scene and heavily involved in teaching. He's great, I will check that album out . Mel Lewis is my favourite drummer. I have that album and it's great. Thanks Ken, have a great day.
Great to be introduced to a new record label like Sam First Records. I had to immediately order the Traveler album and I am looking forward getting it, thanks a lot for such valuable suggestions.
Onya Ken! That Matthew Halsall album is just the ducks nuts!! It is exactly what my ears need. Thanks for this recommendation- this is why your channel simply rocks. Dig (contemporary) Jazz!
While it seems everyone wants to interview Kevin, but yours is one I will actually watch. Love Kent, and that album is stellar, have loved Dearie since getting her 1975 album in that year -- I reviewed just about every album beginning with that one, and she'd include a note with everyone she sent me, way cool. Anyway, thanks for this vid, I learn so much.
Thanks, but I am a bit shy. However, I have a column at the roots music magazine No Depression, that you may want to check out, where I am the only one who somewhat regularly talks about jazz, and once a year I do an article called The Roots Music Lovers Guide to Analog as I am also an audiophile. @@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455
Checked out that Milford Graves -- wow that's something else. Thanks for sharing the comments from Kevin, such a nice dude, we had a lot of fun chatting with him and learned a lot. -- Mike
Just watched one of your old video's, you were saying you emptyed a storage locker and a few of your old records. You also said about down loading some of your music, I'm going to be cheeky and ask if any spare you could send some to a old jazz fan out here in Scotland. (it was worth a try.)...
Well……it wasn’t just about new releases, a/b comparisons or top ten list which it seems every you tube channel does today. It was a lot about finding good used records in the wild and exploring different genres.
@garygray9223 Good news! Spiritual Jazz Vol. 14, entitled "Private", will be released on October 6th. I love this series as well, for in the vid named reasons. ABsolutely looking forward to this!
Great work you do. I have one suggestion and that is the lack of light. Showing us the album covers was all dark. Difficult to read the cover. A thought maybe have a light on above you and slightly in front of you. Cheers
Hello Ken, are the SPIRITUAL JAZZ LPs new recent reissues ? The copies you've shown us look brand new. I look in the Acoustic Sound catalog and Discogs but I haven't seen them new. I would love to buy them. Thank you !
It looks like you may have changed your camera for a dslr and prime lens? The picture looks great Ken!. Maybe try turning the brightness of your monitor down when you edit the exposure as it seems a little dark even with the natural light.
Ken, my friend, you talk to Kevin Gray (Blue Note label), please: a new vinyl in Tone Poet Series (with photos and Gatefold): "Judtment!" by Andrew Hill, masterpiece of Jazz; that they don't waste time. Best regards from Madrid (Spain). Joaquín Herrero (poet)
I never said anything like that. What i have said, is contemporary, jazz artist cannot afford to press the vinyl, especially in the USA. It’s too expensive.
And unfortunately, today’s temporary jazz does not feature the attractive, melodies and standard classic song formats that the music of the 60s did. It’s just a fact. Point out one contemporary, jazz artist, writing a melody on the level of a Coltrane or Lee Morgan or a Hank Mobley. There is a lot of great jazz being made in the UK, and they press it to vinyl.

Love to hear Ellington in the background :)
Ken I love that stereo system @ Octopus Records . Cool store !
Really enjoyed watching this. Many thanks for all the information about these records.
Mathew Halsall Gondwana label has some great artists!
Learned about Graves the same way, via Susie Ibarra when she was in Ware's quartet.

Sweet of you to say. Maybe I should interview you!

send your address, Ill send you jazz records. Can't say itll be Blue Notes, but it will be jazz. Scotland is on my wish list. jazzmacdaddy@yahoo.com
That Milford Graves is now at the top of my list! Thanks Ken 🍻✨
Highly recommend the book Milford Graves - A Mind Body Deal. Just so happens he was born on this date in 1941.
Wow
Cool video….nice change of pace. I share your opinion of the Jazzman Records Spiritual Releases …..I have volumes 8-13 ….
Keep ‘em coming!!!
Why was it a change of pace? The idea of just going through various records?

Hey Ken, Bennington is in southern Vermont just over Mass border. Very informative video!

Last Poets, WOW.
Great review Ken., keep up the great work.
Buy cds and you'll get liner notes! That's why I know so much as you get the original notes and modern day take on it.

Yes, it was way too dark. I thought I could fix it in RUclips but no!
Coltranes sound reissue = Kevin Gray
Hey Ken! Thank you for your great unbiased insight. What’s your take on the German label MPS?
I love all the MPS titles. They begin la reissue series a few years ago then it stalled. Great music from the black forest.
Octopus is on the hit list when in town for WFMU.
The only jazz he has is what I sold him! But lots of great electronic and international
THANK YOU…. BRILL SELECTION…! ! !
"Judgment" (1964), excuse me, Ken.
Blossom Dearie lived on Sheridan Square!
No shit!
How is that Lucky Thompson on Urania? I’ve noticed that one is randomly a bit pricey when it pops up on eBay and Discogs.
It’s a classic like most of his titles. He’s such an organic player and produced such as a big sound and he could play, but was also easy-going.

Thank you sir

Thanks you so much.
Good stuff as usual
Joe la Barbera Qt's World traveller doesn't appear on discogs so far.. neither does the label sam first...
We're currently working on getting up to Discogs so we'll see you there soon!
❤🤙🤙🤙🇩🇪
Was there a year where new jazz died??? All I hear are channels talking about the jazz releases of the 40s 50s 60s When did new artists die????

Tom Dowd was pretty awful...ever listen to any Cream albums? The band sounds like they were recorded in a cardboard box at the bottom of the ocean....
Same with his Dolphy recordings.
Heroin is a hell of a drug.
Thank you, sir!
