Never heard of these guys until last night when they were the opening act for Alestorm gotta say this was such an amazing song live
Agreed, I also saw them last week for the first time at the Academy in Dublin. (Maybe the same gig)
Amazing band, of the three groups performing that night, they were second only to Alestorm.
The second band were terrible

Damn, you know a story's good when it gets you all misty without a word of dialogue or character's name spoken.
Met these wonderful people with my 8 year old son in Liverpool when on the tour with Alestorm. The guitarists gave him he pick from the stage, they took a picture with him and took time to have a conversation with him while doing a signing. They made his first consort amazing.
They are such loverly people. We had never heard of them before this. Safe to say they have two new Fans.
Thats a completely different band you've met. None of the original members are in it and really they dont perform that well live.
@capreoluscapreolus5994 These are the people I met, and as to how they perform live, that is a matter of opinion. My son and I really enjoyed watching them and loved the performance.
I wasn't commenting either on a video with the original line up, this is the lineup that I got to see and meet, so no, it wasn't a different band I met. It was this band in this video. Your comment is completely irrelevant.

I swear the death scene in this video gets me everytime. So extremely beautiful and sad, and then combined with the bridge lyrics... Masterful
the deathscene is fine for me, but i always get wet eyes, when i see his reunion with his father,... it goes through my spine every single time. what it must be for a feeling, meeting your dad, sitting beside odin, the moment you lived and fought for.

yes such a amazing band i just wish they would have English versions too of all their music i feel im missing so much by not getting their lyrics but the music is great and powerful i know the lyrics must be amazing too
to hear this is a great compliment! We Dutch generally have an inferiority complex when it comes to using Dutch in music/metal. It is often said that English is better/more majestic/ has more flow. Dutch is looked at is less soulful than other languages.
So to have that one band that works in Dutch. That's a sweet boost! :D

@@DP-um1ckHow interesting. I’m a native English speaker but simply can’t imagine my favorite Heidevolk songs, like Saksenland and Wapenbroeders, sung in anything besides Dutch. They are perfect the way they are!

I appreciate an English version, it is easier to share with my friends, though I have listened to the original so much this one now sounds a little weird.
I have that too, I prefer to hear the original, not because it is in my native tongue, but it sounds better, more powerful, the Dutch language, suits heidevolk

@@blindg7092 There's plenty other bands that play in the language(s) you understand.
Pretty sure most of them had a fairly good knowledge of English since a long time, anyway i still prefer the original version as it fits a bit better + used to it (and yes i'm not from the Netherland but my knowledge of Dutch and English is pretty much the same), sounds a bit weird now hearing them sing in English but still a good song but doesn't beat 'klauwen vooruit'. Also yeah there are plenty of bands out there singing in languages we don't know, Ningen Isu is one example and even if i search for translated lyrics it's mostly about the songs and how they sound and the voice is just an additional instrument and it doesn't rly matter that much. Alien Weaponry for example has both original songs in English, and in their native New Zealand tribe language 'Māori' and those youngsters sound amazing doing their thing.

What a strange genre of music that somehow still has a huge following.
I could write the lyrics for a song in this genre right now.
Glory, mountains, fables, myths, sabertooth tigers, mammoth, hammer, thundercats unite!
It's also got the most generic instrumentals in the game.
It's like the pop or country of metal.
Folk/viking metal can have really intricate, interesting and even quite techincal instrumentals, but I agree that that has rarely applied to this band.

i had the same with the album be4 this one. it sounds way better live. i dunno why but the mixing of the vocals on the albums sound a bit off.
