      Maddie, this is a small thank you for being so generous with your time and information. Perhaps this will allow you a bit of gas money for more shelling adventures.

      OH MY GOD!!!!?? Ooh my goodness!!??? Jan, does Hans know you did this?!!! I mean, my goodness, this is much more than a "small thank you" holy guacamole. I'm trying to wrap my head around this, but this is an extremely generous amount of support, and yes, this will be gas money for a month!! This could have been Uber money to get to Phillip Island for yourself and Hans! Goodness gracious me, thank you so, so much... this is seriously too much to give, thank you Jan.
      I know it's a small gesture, but I usually give a behind the scenes story for a super chat... though this so much that I'm hyperventilating a little at your generosity 😲 and also, I think you already know all of the behind the scenes stories for this one. I was more than happy to spend the day up at Dundowran with you - we were both going to the same beach at the same time, how could we not meet-up! There's plenty of the beach to go around, and also, this is your holiday! You came all the way from Austria; it would be crazy if I didn't try to make it a little more memorable for you too!
      Looking back, I see all of the lovely shells in the end display here and wonder if I left enough for you; I admit that I did selfishly keep both of those purple colored White Sunset Clams (named for the colour of the mollusc that used to inhabit it) for myself 😅 and hurrrr, I might have pocketed all of those cute little urchins too. I remember that you also collected a bounty of goodies in your shell bag, so I hope it evened out between the two of us in the end.
      I wish this beach could have shared a bounty of fresh moon snails with you as a reward for coming all this way, but it was a little lackluster until we reached those mangroves. I think you got some nice Wentletraps from there, though I can't remember now if you got some Violet Nerites? I might be the only one who obsesses over them 😅. Ohh, I think you got some nice larger sized Orange Leaf Tellins? I stole away the small ones though!!
      Meeting and spending time with you was absolutely lovely; thank you for listening to all of my nerd talk about shells, and also sharing your own stories as well. Thank you for being such an easy-going person to chat with, it was always a pleasure to talk with you.
      Please forgive me for not replying to you first comment here yet... for the longer ones that I want to spend a little more time typing back to, I usually leave them until after I work through the shorter ones. Also, I might have had a lazy day or two after releasing this video. And when I say "might" I mean "definitely" ahhh, I bet you're not lazy like that, you seem like a go getter. I'll always reply, but I channel that 'cat energy' into my timing.
      Again, thank you so, so much. Not just for the Super Thanks, but also for spending time with me; I think my personality is a bit quirky or blunt (not subtle!!), so thanks for putting up with that too 😂 Chatting and having company for the day did put a spring in my step and an extra smile on my face; I know that it made this video all the better for it. I definitely felt more light-hearted on this adventure, and it made for a wonderful day; wouldn't change it for anything.
      Please continue to have a wonderful vacation here in Australia. I hope the Melbourne weather is treating you well, or at least the theater performances are good for avoiding the rain. Seriously, thank you so much for this kind of support 🙏🏻 I am just absolutely thrilled that you enjoyed the day and got plenty of shells from Australia; I was sad that the usual beach at Point Cartwright was a such a failure during your visit there, so hopefully this will leave you with plenty of good memories too. Thank you so, so much for watching 🥰

      @SandCoffeeRocks Hi again! Never fear, Hans knew about the Thanks before I sent it. I was quite happy about my Hervey Bay shells. Perhaps there could have been more, large moon snails, but I scooped up lots of smaller ones that will be great for my craft projects. I in no way felt that you were "hogging" all the good shells. On the contrary, I often felt you were allowing me good shells at your sacrifice. I did come away with a couple of urchins, too, as well as a few Wentletraps. . Once I'm back in Graz (Austria) and have a chance to unpack and clean up the shells, I'll Messenger you a few pictures of my finds. I'm so looking forward to unpacking all the goodies. It will probably be mid-November, before I get things that much back to normal. The older I get, the longer it takes to recover from jet lag. We will reluctantly say farewell to our son on Monday and fly to Singapore for a couple of days before flying back to Europe. Thanks so much for providing me a wonderfully memorable experience at Hervey Bay and thanks so much for filming!

      @@hbwhitetree Phew, I'm glad!! I wish there had've been more shiny moon snails... I went again to Hervey Bay yesterday: the seaweed had let up considerably, but still not many good moons snails around. Hopefully a bounty will be waiting for you one your next visit someday... maybe even a trip to beaches further north; I think the shelling might be amazing up there, and I look forward to seeing it for myself next year (I have loose plans to go to a shell show up in Townsville, Queensland).
      I am very pleased that you didn't feel like I was hogging too many shells :D I remembered being the one to collect up most of the little urchins, so I am extremely pleased that you grabbed a few for the trip as well. And nooo, there was absolutely no sacrifice; it's no different than sharing the beach with the other shellers on any other day: it's not competitive, but adds to the fun. Also, and it might seem blasphemous to admit this (and I don't know when I started to think it) but going shelling is more about making a fun video/experience to share, rather than getting the best shells before everyone else. I mean yes, collecting some very nice shells is what make a shelling video good, but the video this time? It was awesome and everyone enjoyed when I found (as did I) and the humour that was shared. Again, this was just a wonderful day.
      Yes, please message me photos of your shell finds after you return home and recover from such a big trip. Honestly, I've gone overseas on long flights before too, and even then it felt like I needed at least a week to recover... I can only imagine how it is as time continues to march along. When you're ready, I'll see if I can get you some names; I'm also looking forward to seeing shells I've maybe never seen before! Also if you need any names for your Queensland finds, I'll be happy to refresh your memory.
      Have a wonderful time in Singapore - you'll have to tell me the highlights! Stay safe and take care

      Good morning Jas 👋🏻💖 Oh my goodness golly goodness (sorry, I had to say it 😂), thank you for supporting me once again ❤️ seriously, thank you so much 🙏🏻 You are sharing not only your time with me, but also money that you or your family has worked hard for. I truly appreciate that, especially when times have been tough everywhere. Thank you so, so much. I was absolutely thrilled with how this day at Hervey Bay turned out...butter fingers and all 😅 it was a light hearted and enjoyable day. I'm saying thank you so much, but again, thanks for laughing along with me 😁 Actually this day was extra exciting behind the scenes; I met up with a lady from Austria who is on vacation in Australia (she watches these shelling videos) and I managed to steal away one of her precious days to join me for this extra long beach walk. I found a heap of great shells for the video, but I'm very pleased to say that she also collected a fair share of lovely ones too. This beach is certainly big enough for many shellers, despite the sand and seaweed making so many vanish in some sections 😲🏖️ In the end, it was a memorable visit. Thanks for sharing it with me 🥰

    The flat, scaly scallop and faded cockle were so pretty to start out with! ❤ Loved all the urchins!!! And the Juke’s keyhole limpet 🗻, gorgeous! I have two favorites today. The orange 🍊 leaf tellins (especially the small ones) and the white sunset clams. 💜 You made an absolutely beautiful display today Maddie! Well done! 🥰🥰🥰

      G'day Pam 👋🏻💖 Ohhh the faded Cockle that had the strange freakish growth variation?!! That was fun to see 😁 Same with the keyhole limpet; I must admit that the big ones with strong textures are very eye catching to me too 👀 The bivalves and urchins really were the most colourful today though; they really wanted to strut their glory along the wracklines....I don't think that sentence made sense, but anyways!!! Hope you and the growing family are doing well ❤️ Thanks for watching 🥰

      G'day Jeanette 👋🏻🏖️ Oh my gosh, thank you so much for your kind words 🙏🏻 the display turned out really nice 🤩 I was a little worried about setting up the shells as the tide was rising, so I found that little patch of greenery on some of the slightly dryer sand on the hoped that it would give some stability to the shell display...setting up shells on loose dry sand is awful, I try to avoid that mistake after the first time I tried it 😅 Sorry, I'm rambling. Thank you so much for enjoying these videos, and I'm glad you got to see some lovely Commercial Scallops in this one! Hi Maddie, Jan here. I had many favorites in this episode, the best of the best for me were the orange leaf tellins (small and large), white (? even though purple) sunset shells, the yellow and orange periwinkles, the violet nerites, the baby balers, and the wentletraps. I'm so glad you could find a few urchins, since I voted to head to the mangroves rather than travel to the "urchin" beach. Thank you so much for sharing your shelling knowledge with an absolute amateur; the highlight of my time on the East Coast. I'm not even back in land-locked Austria yet, but I'm already eager to plan our next trip to Australia, including time for shelling. Keep those wonderful, inspiring videos coming and thanks again for being so generous with your time and knowledge.

      G'day Jan 👋🏻🏖️ I haven't replied to you here yet; I have truly been a little slow over this last week and weekend 😲 sorry for the wait!! Oh my goodness Jan, I went back to Hervey Bay yesterday (I like to go on the weekends when the tide is good for it due to the home beach being so busy on those days) and found a bounty of Orange Leaf Tellins! I think you must have sent some luck my way?? I also went to the urchin beach... surprisingly, not many urchins there! Still, and without giving any spoilers for upcoming shelling adventure videos, it was a nice day. The seaweed had let-up significantly since we were there a few weeks ago. Still, I think we did quite well in this one on our trip to the mangroves! I'd better stop rambling for now 😁 I know you are flying back today and probably won't see this message until much, much later, but thank you again; this was a massive highlight of my day as well. Thank you so much for watching, too 🥰

I got a boy dachshund puppy named Bearsy. He is a handful. Since my Bob passed away in March I am not doing well. We were both to celebrate our 75 birthdays and 50th Anniversary in September. I was put on two doses of depression med but got sick. I am only on a small dose if Ativan to help me relax when I sleep. I was always a loner by nature and miss my Bob not being here although his urn is in our livingroom and his spirit also. I do see our son twice weekly. I still visit my friend who owns a vintage/antique store as I am a collector. My newest collection from her is 21 gorgeous vintage perfume bottles on my dresser. Also, I go to a small zoo nearby Bob and I loved. Got a pass and go quite a lot. I started collecting their zoo stuffed animals very realistic. I have 34 and counting from small to 4 foot. G'day Francesco 👋🏻💖 Those Phylloda foliacea have somehow been bountiful at Hervey Bay lately 🤩 I have never seen so many of them before this year! For the Eumarcia fumigata, I am not 100% sure that this is right; though the location and general appearance of the species is similar to what I found. I am only unsure because a knowledgeable friend said that it could actually be a type of basket clam, not a venus clam, but who really knows?? The Hiatula alba was a lot of fun to see; it was my first time countering this shell! I sometimes see faded and old Cardita crassicosta, but the fresh one would be a delight to find someday; they are amazing shells! Oh, and the Phallomedusa solida was a new one for you!!- I only find them around the mangrove section of the beach, and the same goes for those Littoraria filosa as well. Oh, was this the first time seeing an Astele speciosum too? It's uncommon to find an intact one here... they are all very sun faded... I sometimes find small but colourful ones at the home beach, but they are very rare there 🤔 I might only have found one nice one? Hello, Maddie! I’m from Florida, living in Texas USA, and was turned on to seashells at a very young age by my father who collected Hawaiian seashells. I have collected all around the USA, mostly in Florida. You have now introduced the idea of shelling Australia! Have you considered leading tour groups in the future?
    I love your videos, wonderful finds and quirky personality!😊

      G'day Michel 👋🏻🏖️ Hello to you in Texas, I've heard there are some decent places for shelling there too... Florida doesn't quite have every single shell that the gulf produces!! Hawaiian shells are amazing, I hope your dad gave a few to you over the years 😊 and of course, the Florida shells are absolutely fabulous and unique to your part of the world! I'm thrilled that you have an interest in Australian shells too, there are a lot of wonderful native and endemic species here that you can't get anywhere else 🤩 as well as other favourites from the Indo-Pacific Region.
      As for tour groups, people have mentioned it to me before, but I must admit that the idea of a tour group for shelling is a bit odd for me. I understand if you are taking people out to a difficult to reach location (like an island via a boat) but other than that, I think that the beaches I travel to are very accessible: anyone can wander around them and collect shell! No need for me to lead a group. I'm happy to do the occasional beach meet up if someone wanted to co-ordinate something like that with my schedule, but nope, no tours planned! That might change if I ever become a boating person with a secret shelling place? Who knows. Thank you so much for watching 🥰

    Beautiful layout today. Very artsy. I always look forward to your videos. You make my treadmill walk much more bearable. If it wasn’t such a long flight from USA I’d be tempted to go shelling in your country! Have a great day

      G'day Susan 👋🏻🏖️ Thank you for the kind words; some of those displays turn out better than others, and I was quite pleased with this one 😁 I never know how it will look until the end! Also, I'm glad that I could make the work out go a little quicker 😉 good on you for keeping in shape; I wish I solid exercise routine like you. Hehe Susan, it's the reverse for me as well; if it wasn't such a long flight to the USA, I'd probably go shelling in your country!! Thanks for watching 🥰

Message me if you want, otherwise I'll do my own thing 😂 Thank you so much for watching 🥰 and I hope you and Eugene and the kids are well.

      G'day Reet 👋🏻💖 Ahh looking back, that's such a school-yard comeback: "I didn't lose the soccer ball, you lost the soccer ball" or something like that 😂 yeah, I couldn't keep a hold of the shells this time! Oh yes, it was about 10km, but that includes the entire round trip to the mangroves, as well as a brisk 30 minute walk initially in the other direction (and back again) which didn't produce any shells. The mangroves are always quite far away, but yes, I walk a ton around Hervey Bay to find the shells 🐚 I always spend about 6 or 7 hours of walking and shelling up there, and then time on top of that for shell displays. Big day! Thank you so much for watching 🥰

      @ShellingAdventures  Месяц назад +1

      @@Danstarla For me, I’ve always found a lot of urchins there. They do feed on the seaweed though (or sea grass, rather?), so they would wash up with it. However, this seaweed is more like algae? Not really sure, it’s like plant matter that someone chucked in a blender. It’s much more unpleasant than sea weed 😅

Have fun in NSW, and keep an eye out for those cute bonnets down there... Agate Bonnets, I think is the English name. The scientific name was something like Phalium labiosum??? I'd have to double check on the computer next time; but they're super cute!! Take care, and thank you so much for watching 🥰

    Hello Maddie! Did I hear that correctly? You covered 10kms of beach for this video?! Serious dedication! The red wing oyster, Flinder's Venus, and the egg cowries, and my favourite shells from today. Special mentions to the beautiful feather and wonderful purple short-spined sea urchins.

    • @ShellingAdventures
      @ShellingAdventures  Месяц назад +2

      G'day Oceanluvn Gal 👋🏻🌊💖 I might have overstated it a little 😅 I walked about 1-1.5km to search for shells in the other direction...there were none, and my view of the next km or so along the straight stretch was also empty. Anyhoo, I doubled back to where I started, and went to the mangroves...about 3-3.5km. So, for the round tip for both direction, yep, about 10km. It's always a long walk to get over to the mangroves (it's all private property around it, so there isnt any closer beach accesses to it that I've found...probably why it doesn't get picked over by beach goers?); it's usually why it's just one big episode when I go there! As for the shells, there were some fun and unusual ones with those egg cowries, as well as another red wing oyster at this beach! I'm glad you liked the big feather and the sea urchins too, they really brightened my day. Thank you so much for watching 🥰

    • @ShellingAdventures
      @ShellingAdventures  Месяц назад

      G'day Natalia 👋🏻🏖️ Good question! I've never noticed them at the home beaches on the Sunshine Coast, so they definitely seem to be a shell that prefers the climate a few hours north. While I do find them at Hervey Bay, I also remember seeing a few at Yeppoon too when I was there a few months ago 🤔 I can't remember now if I collected any; there were lots of new shells, and I think the Flinder's Venuses were a little worn away at those beaches. Can't wait to go back up there again next year! I might go up even further north next time! Thank you so much for watching this big adventure 🥰 it was packed with a lot of different kinds of shells 🐚
